James POV
the underground forest was something that I never thought I would ever see outside of paintings, the path we followed was cracked purple tiles that snaked through the lush forest around, and with each step the forest slowly became more wild, with higher trees and more vines and moss.
looking up I could see some 'stars' which were likely the glowing stone from the puzzle I solved to reach here.
the fireflies added to the atmosphere even further due to the fact I never saw them on earth, I used [Analytical Appraisal] when one got close enough, and it showed some interesting information aside from its minuscule magicule amount.
while they do have a chemical reaction that causes the glowing, they seemed to also use neglectable amount of magic to enhance the glow, a sort of long lasting light amplification spell.
that was probably why they glowed fiercely enough to make my candle light unneeded.
feeling the ground become softer I looked below to find the pathway eroded so much that it just stopped and gave way to a softer dirt path.
at that point I stopped walking and looked back with a pensive look.
"why are we stopping?" Frisk seemed to enjoy themselves too much to worry about returning
looking at the dark pathway back to Toriel's Home, I contemplated just ending our advanture.
I then looked around at the beautiful jungle and eventually at frisk, they seemed to notice what I thought about and made some puppy eyes in an effort to make me give up reason.
eh, fuck it.
"nothing, lets continue" I let myself unwind a little, after the demonstration of Frisk today I was somewhat less worried about their ability to protect themselves, even though I needed to remind myself of their childish mentality.
"Heck yeah" they did a fist bump and turned forward to continue walking.
eventually we saw a giant frog sitting on the dirt pathway.
"hello?" Frisk called out from afar, probably still cautious after our encounter with a certain flower.
the Frog Jumped, apparently we startled it enough for it to fall clumsily to the ground.
as the frog slowly righted itself on its legs and arms, I noticed its pale grey skin, [Analytical Appraisal] simply telling me it had [Mana Manipulation] and [Jump], both intrinsic skills.
as the frog stood up it looked wearily at frisk and me, shifting its eyes uneasily before defaulting on his next course of action.
*SPEW* the frog seemingly spit out 3 flies, all of them glowing white.
...and the flies started flying towards us.
*SPEW* *SPEW* *SPEW*
"HEY WAIT!" Frisk seemed surprised by the escalation "we only wanted to talk!" Frisk slowly walked backwards from the slow flies that flew towards them.
"Ribbit" the frogs face was as monotone as ever
I slowly inched back too.
there were 2 courses of action we could take, either we subdue the monster by smacking it, or we try to 'ACT' aka try to talk it out of attacking us, killing it wasn't really on the table if we wanted to make friends with the monsters.
*SPEW* *SPEW* *SPEW*
"UUUGH" frisk seemed done trying to reason with the giant frog, they used their aura to dash around the flies with each kick launching them a couple meters.
Frisk POV
'I am done with this bullshit!' I was in such a good mood, but someone had to go and ruin it, again!
my fist glowed a faint red, I planned on lightly punching the frog to sleep.
I shot my fist like a bullet but then the frog jumped away fast enough for me to miss, in my outburst I didn't expect to miss and stumbled on the ground.
the frog was now stuck on a tree vertically, it still spew the magic flies that slowly infested the whole area.
I got up while glaring at the frog
"Frisk!" James called out "calm down, lets talk this out with it!" his voice suggested he was concerned more about the frog
"...fine" I conceded pretty easily once I lost my steam, I guess I was too agressive because of my newfound superpowers
"hey there Frog" James lowered his voice to sound disarming "I'm sorry we startled you, but we just wanted to explore" James lifted an eyebrow looking into the Frogs eyes "could you let us through...?"
the Frogs eyes squinted a bit before simply saying "Ribbit!"
"what did he say?" James looked at me with a questioning look
"how would I know??" I shrugged my shoulders
looking around the flies still followed us, and were nearly surrounding me, I quickly dashed out of the circle and dashed at the frog stuck to the trunk of the tree, it dodged and my fist hit the tree harshly causing it to crack and fall towards me
I dodged the falling tree hastily, but while moving in the air I noticed a couple flies blocking my trajectory, I crossed my hands to block them but a flair of flames erupted from James and destroyed the magic flies.
I landed and gave a thumbs up and bright smile to James, his pose with an arm still outstretched but his face exasperated.
"if you don't stop spewing flies, I will aim at you next" James threatened with a low voice at the frog with his palm holding a bright fireball that lightened up his surroundings with a strong glow.
anyone with a sense of magicules would see that James constantly strengthened the attack, making me curious how strong it could get.
looking at the frog it seemed to be sweating and shivering, then it simply stopped the magic flies causing them to vanish, before hastily jumping away.
"didn't know you had it in ya" I approached James, slightly impressed by his control over magic
"do you know how to dissipate magicules?" James concerningly asked
I raised an eyebrow but then looked at the still building up fireball and then at the face of a sweating James with strained face, my eyes widened
"can't you release it??" I asked quickly
"I can, but it would definitely explode" holy shit
the fireball slowly began to break out of his control, causing its glow to become unstable
"JUST THROW I-" I quickly suggested to throw it away, but it seems he already thought of it
James threw it like a baseball almost straight up, it went up about 15 meters before exploding, with a deafening sound similar to thunder, the explosion of flames was so bright in the dark jungle that the explosion was like a flashbang.
if there were any other monsters around, they definitely knew we were here now.
