Chapter 68 - Chapter sixty one : dodging trouble

"awww he sent this "

Jane asked holding Raye's phone close to her chest while smiling .

Raye used the book on the desk to cover her face growling loudly .

They were currently waiting for their teacher to step in , while the student continue to immense themselves in their conversation.

Raye suddenly raised her head up with a bright face , saying quickly .

"I have two options . One change school

Two avoid him like real damn ".

Jane snapped one eye open glaring at Raye who rolled her eyes tiredly.

"You sent him thank you and he replied ..whose fault is it here ???"

"I don't know " Raye murmured pouting cutely .

Jane rolled her eyes dropping the phone on the desk as she deadpanned .

"Your fault ...all yours gal , firstly you kissed him - oh don't hush me " Jane said swatting Raye hand away who tried to cover her lips as she continued "now you sent a thank you ".

Raye groaned stomping her foot on the floor before burying her face on her book again .

" I didn't mean to do it ...that's the embarrassing part " she said which came out muffled because of the books .

"Yeah , I know it sounds stupid considering all the denial you made last week about not liking the dude ..but still it happens so face it ".

"How am I sure he kissed me purely, what if he went on with it cause he thinks I need help ".

"You sure need help " Jane deadpanned with a dead expression .

"I know " Raye said burying her face in the book again while crying faking .

"What's up with her " a girl asked who was sitting beside them as Jane shrugged clearly amused .

"Emotional crises I would say , but she would move on ".

The girl shrugged turning back to her group of friends .

"I am picking one , and that's avoiding him ...I can't do it ok ...I initiated the kiss this time "..

"I won't blame you that boy lips is the most sexiest " Jane muttered staring into space while shaking her head slowly.

Raye thought about it before patting her cheeks to get rid of the thought.

It was just right there ...geez how could she resist !!!!.

"Jane this is like my second kiss and I did it ,it's kinda of awkward ,we don't even have an established relationship yet ...so for now it's like I gave a stranger my lips for lunch ".

"Actually it's dinner cause it was in the evening ..."Jane trailed off grinning when Raye glared at her " not the point, but yeah I don't think people really care about first or third kisses or even relationship thing ".

True true but she cared .

"No, I can't face him , am going for hiding seriously".

"Why didn't you head on to changing school ?" Jane asked titling her head with a raised brow .

Raye stared at her with a dead expression like she didn't know the reason .

She was financially broke ...and geez how would she switch schools just because of she kissed a guy .

Also it wasn't even highschool but university.

"Jane you are the worst " she muttered burying her face in her book again as she continue to growl.

"Yeah " Jane smirked turning to face the front of the class while laughing out .

Four days later ....

If Raye had Olympic-level reflexes, today would've been the day to prove it.

It had been four days since the kiss—the one that still haunted her dreams like some forbidden movie scene on replay.

Four whole days of pretending she was fine, while her brain kept throwing random flashbacks of Kyle's face way too close to hers.

His lips.

His voice.

The weight of his words—"I'd rather see you angry than broken."

Nope.

Nope. !!

She wasn't doing this. Not today.

She tugged her hoodie tighter, cause this was the only thing that could hide her face perfectly,... head down, eyes glued to the hallway floor as if it held the meaning of life.

Jane trailed behind her, holding two cups of coffee and laughing like someone who knew Raye was seconds away from a total meltdown.

"Girl, if you bend your head any lower, you'll see through the floor," Jane teased, catching up beside her.

"Shut up," Raye muttered. "I'm trying to avoid a disaster."

"You mean Kyle," Jane said with a knowing grin.

Raye froze. "Don't say his name like that."

"Like what?"

"Like you're about to expose my entire emotional breakdown in front of the vending machine!"

Jane laughed so hard she nearly spilled the coffee. "You're unbelievable. You act like kissing a hot guy is a crime."

"It's not the kiss," Raye hissed. "It's—everything. The moment. The rain. His stupid shirt. My stupid brain. Everything!"

Jane wiggled her eyebrows. "So… you admit it was hot."

Raye turned to glare at her. "Jane."

"Raye."

"Stop."

"Make me."

Raye groaned, dragging her friend toward the stairwell before she exploded in public. "You're impossible."

They turned the corner—and Raye almost walked straight into him.

Kyle.

The universe had jokes today.

He was standing halfway down the stairs, one hand gripping the railing, his sleeves rolled up, hair a little messy, and his usual bored expression plastered across his annoyingly perfect face.

Their eyes met for a split second—hers wide, his unreadable.

And then Raye's brain screamed ABORT MISSION.

"Oh, crap," she whispered.

Jane blinked. "What—"

Before Jane could finish, Raye darted forward and literally ducked under his arm as he stepped aside.

The move was so quick and ridiculous that she nearly smacked her head on the railing, but she managed to slide into the narrow space beside him and rush down the stairs like a woman possessed.

Kyle turned slightly, looking down at her with a mixture of confusion and disbelief. "Seriously?"

Raye pretended not to hear him, clutching her bag strap so tightly her knuckles went white. Jane, who was laughing so hard she had to hold the railing, finally managed to choke out—

"Oh my God, you just limbo'd under his arm like you were avoiding a low branch!"

"Shut up, Jane!"

"You should've seen his face!"

"I didn't want to!" Raye fired back chewing her bottom lips with heated cheeks out of embarrassment.

Kyle was still watching them from above, his expression unreadable but his jaw clenched like he was trying not to react. When their eyes met again briefly, she quickly looked away, cheeks burning.

"Raye," he called after her, his tone calm, deep, and way too steady for her liking.

Her heart jumped. "We're late for class!" she yelled back without stopping.

Jane burst out laughing again. "You're not even close to the right floor, genius!"

Raye practically ran through the hall, dodging students, heat flooding her face. She didn't stop until they reached the cafeteria.
