The day drifted like fog. The manor's halls were silent save for the faint ticking of the grandfather clock that echoed down the corridor. Nicole moved through it in a haze, her gown brushing softly across the polished floor, her thoughts circling endlessly around Jasper his darkened eyes, the strange pull of his aura, the way his smile no longer reached his eyes.
He'd left again that morning, saying only that there were "matters with Vicar" that required his attention. But Nicole wasn't a fool.
Every time he came back, his eyes seemed darker. His voice, calmer, yet cold beneath the surface. The man she loved was there she could feel him through the bond but something else lingered, twisting deeper every time he touched her hand.
She needed answers, she wanted to know what was happening..
