Leaves rustled gently in the twilight breeze as the grass and tree branches swayed from side to side. The luster of the stars and the moon, though ever-present in the clear sky above, seemed to dim slightly to match the lulling atmosphere below, where everything was settling into a state of rest.
The birds had already settled into their nests, done with the day's events, and so had the insects—though a few were still up and about. But even their movements had a slow, silent quality that matched the cool wind and the night sky.
Everything seemed to have wound down, or was heading that way. Well, almost everything.
There was one being in that entire landscape who was out of sync with the slowly slumbering environment. While the rest were winding down, he was wound up, overflowing with energy.
