Chapter 26 - Chapter 23: Heuristics.

The moment she dropped me off at the makeshift operation room, I immediately get swarmed by a pride of surgeons as they immediately put my presence to good use.

Some wanted to make a plaster mold of my face to properly fit the equipment. The others check my heart rate, skin condition, reaction speed and everything else under the sun, even going so far as to ask for my consensus about the rights to use a needle to withdraw some blood.

I found it a bit strange facing so much enthusiasm over what I perceived to be such mundane task for a doctor or at the very least a healthcare professional to preform.

But when the fact of a trasmigration had occured, this person right here suddenly realize that those modern world norms don't fully apply when it come to this place.

Of course, they still kept quite the composure when faced with me. However, when they swarm the brand new research equipment, a certain gleeful handful of brain cells seems to collectively activate as a whole.

To be quite honest, they do remind me of some cavemans few million years back first discovered fire. That image is really hard to erase from my head now...

Meanwhile, on the other side of the room, Nightingale hand over the stack of sketch to Selinus.

" It is a shame we couldn't get some of the equipment pass the stress test, innovation sure take a lot of effort."

She sigh, looking back at the little amounts of devices they could get through for the operation.

Despite the Guild's heavy investment in creating new technology, getting permission to make something is much easier than getting permission to use something. That hitch is the main cause for the expensive bill they have to pay, not to mention medical care is strictly leaned toward treating nobility which forced every creation's price into the sky.

There is no official organization that stand to regulate these neither.

Selinus could only nods in agreement, despite working as a private doctor full time in the Laurel's estate, Duke Barrow gave him plenty of invitations to join academic conferences. He himself had witness the impressive catalog Aurelia had to offer, even though most of those ideas were rejected.

" That one item called 'Projector' would be plenty useful for something like this." He wiped his glass before scanning through the miniscule details on the page. His squinting back every once in a while.

" It is quite sad to see it eliminated from the production line. My eyes are not too great either.

Maybe I could snuck out some of the tester ones for you."

This earn a low amused chuckle from him.

Nightingale look through the clinical trial record of all medications that will be use on Amelia.

Thanks to the family's support, a list of drugs has been sorted from testing directly on her direct bloodline and relative. Of course, they did have to lie to Amelia a bit about disappearing for a short while. The excuse itself is wholly true, but the time was simply pushed forward a bit.

Of course, the reason everyone is here today is also to test the most viable anesthetic for her. The number of developed ones are small, derive from strictly military usage so it was extremely limited in number.

The Royal family got it covered tho.

" It is looking bad, especially for the left arm." Selinus pointed out on the drawn scan.

" Do you reckon we pushed it forward in schedule? Next week should be prime time."

Nightingale pointed out the migrating path of the poison.

Though, physically every part of her body still operate as it supposed to, what threaten this equilibrium is more leaned toward the fantastical setting. A semi sentient poison attacking and targeting specifically the mana veins that run in parallel to the actual body. It is highly reactive to mana, acting erratic in its presence.

By destroying them, this in turn effect the physical body.

If it was someone weak, with undeveloped mana circuit, they would be fine, maybe get sick for a few days. But if someone with bountiful mana was strike with it, it would be a near lethal blow. However, despite its elusive effect, it took a physical form ,which meant experts with good circulation skill could easily purged it out of their system.

As a member of the Laurel family, Amelia may be young but she does have the necessary skill to pushed something like this out, even if not fully expelled, her family members could easily help her with something like this. Even tho her mana pool is big, this poison is the slow acting kind.

However...

This didn't happen.

Amelia not only fell into a coma but experienced symptoms of organ failure instantly after quote on quote 'got poisoned and fell into the pond'.

I other word, Amelia have already had this poison in her system even prior to the incident at the tea party. The poison cocktail she received at the time is suspect to have been use to cover this fact up.

Masking poison with poisons.

And the body part that received the biggest brunt of that cocktail was the left arm. Weakening blood vessels, ,... a whole package deal of trouble.

" Yes. That would be the optimal route. Can I trouble you to relay this to both team for me?" Selinus turned to Nightingale.

" Of course, that will be no trouble at all. I will get a rushed on the test arm model as well."

With a simple motion, she called over two helpers to aid Selinus, pointing out certaint tasks that need completing, before she took off. They got into the role quickly, not leaving any room for complaints.

Watching her leave the room, the head doctor himself couldn't help but re-evaluate his standard for capable coworker. Nightingale and Dawn are quite the anomalies, to be frank, nobody who work for the Aurelia guild is normal.

" Mister Selinus~"

He came over and ruffles my hair as he took charged for the rest of the test. Checking everything carefully down to the smallest details. That too didn't stop me from having my fill of fun as I get to play around with the test machine.

It is not like there is anything I could do to actually ruins them. Compare to those modern world machine you see at every hospital, with so many buttons you have to questioned how many of them they need to use just to get you some pain killer.

I often wonder every hospital trip if they use enough of those buttons, the sickness would just leave the body on its own. My sister back then seems to trust that trail of thought at the very least. But then, with those kind of things who would dare pushing them yourself to test out such fantasy.

Putting the one in front of me right now next to it, and people would mistaken this as some kind of strange minimalist art project instead.

In total, there is around five contraption of all kind. It is only the bare essential needed for an operation of this scale. Physical equipment are shiny and dandy, looking brand news and up to code, perfectly mirroring what ones would imagine when the tool kit a surgeon is mention.

I couldn't touch any of it but they did say a demonstration will be done soon when they have an accurate enough model to practice on so I will wait until then.

The tech side was rather rough looking for what you would call the most advanced machinary to date. All that is supplied is the bare-boned of what it should be.

There is the most iconic monitor-ish thing that displayed real time heartbeats and vital signs. Plus what you can loosely called the anesthetics distributer stuff. My brain could only get so far on medical use machinery, so two out of five things are lost to translation.

I could guess that the last machine would be the shocking pad thing- what is the name de-something.

[ Defibrillator. ]

Right, right, thank you system.

?

How do you know about that?

[ (◐ω◑ ) ]

Ah...

You are one strange creature, system.
