Eli sat at his desk, focused on the ten-year-old patient sitting directly in front of him. The child was visibly pale, and his mother explained anxiously that he had been vomiting for quite a while already. He was also suffering from sharp stomach pain, diarrhea, and a low-grade fever.
"When did he start to vomit?", Eli questioned with his pen and paper ready for notes.
"Last night. He didn't even eat anything for dinner, but he kept vomiting in the middle of the night."
"Did you give him any medicine?"
"Yes, we did. We gave him medicine for fever and diarrhea, but none of them work, so we decided to bring him here."
Just then, the child gagged, on the verge of vomiting again. Eli immediately directed the mother to take him straight to the attached bathroom. Inside, the boy puked miserably. Eli followed them in to continue his clinical evaluation, gently handing them a few tissues and a bottle of water once the retching subsided.
