Stepping through the curtain of creepers and into the narrow hidden path, Alicia felt the world shift around her. The air now seemed to have grown thicker, and quieter.
A lone unfamiliar car waited at the end of the trail, just as Adrien had said, midnight blue.
Her steps picked up but before she glanced behind her, an empty path stared back and gone was the creeper curtain. She frowned at the disappearance. Shaking her head off the thoughts with a clenching heart, she forced herself forward and tugged open the passenger door sliding in, shutting it with a soft but shaky thud.
"Put on the seat belt," a calm voice came from beside.
Alicia turned, expecting Delbert's calm, familiar face, but who she saw was off the bag. Her fingers hovered motionless above the buckle, her mind refusing to believe what her eyes were seeing.
"Nicholas?" she whispered.
