[Chapter Size: 2400 Words.]
Third Person POV.
Westerlands.
...
...
"My lady, these are the latest reports from the Westerlings. Thirty thousand soldiers of Daemon Targaryen have left Westerling territory and are now advancing and entering the north of Lannister lands!" the maester of Casterly Rock said in a drawn-out voice, even though it sounded urgent, while Genna Lannister, who was leading the castle, could not help but shudder.
Thirty thousand men, savages or not, as everyone said, were coming to Casterly Rock along with that same man who had already entered her domains and taken a great portion of her family's fortune, in addition to everything they possessed.
If it were someone else, she would not even care. After all, they were just savages, and the castle could be defended. But now it was different. There was the history of that man, who had easily smashed the gate of the Golden Tooth and advanced through the West, conquering territories one by one as the houses surrendered.
The Westerling family had been executed without mercy. Not only the parents of Robb Stark's wife — if she could even still be called that — but all adult members of the family. Uncles, vassals, and even distant relatives had been killed by Daemon. He was willing to destroy the entire family.
And she was speaking only of the Westerlands, for he had already been doing similar things since the North and the Riverlands.
Genna was terrified. He was executing everyone who had been involved in the Red Wedding, and that included, above all, the Lannisters. Not to mention that the man moved guided by vengeance for his dead brothers and had sworn to destroy her family for what had happened to the Targaryens.
After a few words, as many as Genna could manage, the maester left the solar, while the Lannister woman simply went to the wine and began to drink. She trembled, unable to stop thinking about her children and about Joy, who was in the castle.
Her husband was not someone she could rely on; that Frey was useless and lately was always in a foul mood. His family had been killed at the Twins, and he cried out for justice, without even realizing that he was a foolish coward who, the moment that same man who killed his family stood before him, would only tremble and soil himself with fear, unable to lift a finger against the Targaryen.
Genna needed to remember that this same man was now there, drawing ever closer.
She went to the window and sent orders to the master-at-arms of Casterly Rock, shouting commands and calling all the soldiers to try to contain the enemy while they prepared the castle. Everyone was in despair. She no longer knew what was worse: an army of thirty thousand men, while the army of the Westerlands was still stationed in King's Landing defending a cursed golden king who only caused problems, or a white dragon who could simply turn the castle into rubble.
Casterly Rock was famous for having withstood dragonfire in the past, remaining standing. But would it be able to deal with white fire, capable of freezing and shattering stone as if it were glass?
Just like the third, Daemon Targaryen himself, who no longer even needed commentary, that man was nothing normal; he was relentless, with powers beyond what the Seven Kingdoms could be prepared to face.
"Damn you, Tywin... Look at the result you ended up putting us in. All in pursuit of elevating the Lannister name. In the end, you made too great a gamble, and now we are losing," Genna snarled.
She had always respected her brother and followed him, but she could not stop herself from feeling an immense rage toward him at that moment. Everything was falling apart. They had no allies. Everyone had abandoned the Lannisters.
The wildlings, the northern houses, Stannis and his men, along with the lords of the Riverlands, had united to fight them, under the command of someone who had declared he would destroy her family.
The Tyrells had simply abandoned King's Landing, and the Tyrell–Lannister alliance no longer existed. The Martells were also on the move. A group of ships was landing in the Stormlands, and constant meetings between campaign lords in that port were also drawing attention.
The family Tywin had always boasted about was now isolated, surrounded on all sides. All those who once feared them now hated them. Was this what Tywin wanted in the end? In trying to be relentless, he had made all the kingdoms, with the exception of the Vale, push the Lannisters against the wall.
This was the result of Tywin's relentless pursuit of power. In the end, it had caused only the destruction of the family. Genna wished she were standing before him to say that he had managed to be worse than his own father, Lord Tytos Lannister, whom Tywin had hated with all his might for nearly destroying the Lannister name and dragging it through the mud.
"Tell me, Tywin, now what do you think of all this. You, your ambition, the mistakes of your children and of your grandson have condemned us."
Genna continued spitting words into the wind, hurling curses at her older brother and at the fate of her house. She wanted to curse her enemies as well, more than anything, but what good would it do? It was easier to die than to find Tywin in the other world, so that her words might have any effect, whether on him or on that man advancing against them.
In Lannisport, Kevan's wife, Dorna Lannister, was equally nervous. The women responsible for both Lannisport and Casterly Rock found themselves in an extremely complicated situation.
Kevan's wife had also received the report and could not help but shudder; she clutched her daughter, Janei Lannister, only three namedays old, tightly.
Kevan was in the capital; among her family there were only her, Lancel, and the youngest daughter. Willem and Martyn were dead. She was certain that Kevan would do everything to protect her and her daughter, but he would not arrive in time, even if he wished to. They were at the mercy of the army invading the territory.
In addition, she had heard rumors of dozens of northern ships heading south of the Iron Islands, after a violent war and the massacre of the Ironborn resulting in the death of Balon Greyjoy.
She did not need to worry only about the land; the port would also be in danger, and she ordered several men to remain on watch.
"May the gods protect us." That was all she murmured, clutching her daughter in the hope of surviving.
An hour later, men from the port began running toward the manor, shouting that ships had been sighted. At the same time, the bells began to ring, and the city fell into panic as several vessels bearing Targaryen banners and those of other northern houses advanced at high speed toward them.
Men of Lannisport shouted, and as they prepared themselves, there were at least five thousand men acting as soldiers at the port. After a quick recruitment, even of common men, it was decided to distribute all the armor in stock to as many people as possible who could face the enemies.
There were another five thousand men gathering before Casterly Rock. Perhaps they could assemble another two thousand from the rest of the west, but that would not be enough to deal with thirty thousand coming from the north and another seven thousand arriving by sea.
Even so, Kevan Lannister's wife needed this. Every detail mattered. The ships continued to advance, and a line of men with bows began to form at the port, with fire barricades beside them, prepared to burn the enemy ships. They had this advantage while defending and hoped the enemies would come within range. They did not stop for even a moment.
'We can win!' Dorna told herself, even though part of her voice was betraying her.
"My lady, you should leave the city." The maester entered the solar and approached her with concern.
"Perhaps we can win. At least dealing with the seven thousand may be possible, with five thousand archers hurling fire into the sea."
What she did not count on was that, when the ships came close enough to be struck by flaming arrows, the sound of wings came accompanied by a massive roar, making everyone lose focus and look to the sky.
In the next moment, the white dragon was there, as if she had been waiting for that instant all along. When she opened her mouth and drew close enough, her flames burst forth, and the archers barely had time to react before being consumed by the icy flames, some still able to scream.
The dragon kept flying straight ahead, burning that entire side of the port. Some still tried to fire arrows, which struck the hull and the scales of Winter, but caused no effect at all.
Jon was mounted as the dragon began to take flight after destroying the city's line of defense.
The woman on the balcony trembled at the sight, and the girl began to cry in fear, nesting her head in her arms.
In an instant, the entire armed defense of the port was reduced to nothing, and now nothing else prevented the invaders from approaching. The dragon continued flying through the city, and no one else had the courage to face them.
"My lady…" The maester trembled at her side, and she nodded, already knowing what he wanted to say.
"Let's go. This place won't hold for much longer." She said, picking up her daughter.
Lannisport would not hold any longer. She quickly began to leave the manor, taking her daughter and the men of the household with her, with the dragon's roar echoing outside, people screaming and running in terror. She regretted not having taken her daughter to the Lannisters' seat; she would have been safer there and would not have had to see all that terror and monsters.
"It will be alright, my dear." She murmured, moving on with her men before the city was completely taken.
The ships did not stop at the frozen port, but moved on to another side, cleaner, where the air was still breathable, far from the flames. There, they docked, and thousands of men began to disembark, taking the city. The guards tried to resist at first, but soon began to kneel, begging for mercy.
Daemon saw all of that and left Lannisport. There was nothing left in that city for him. He advanced directly toward where a small group was sneaking out of the city. He kept his eyes fixed the entire time on the Lannister lady and her daughter through his Warg abilities, as he was spying on her.
The entire group froze when the sound of a roar invaded their eardrums, and everyone looked up. The dragon was already there, dropping right in front of them, knocking down trees and making the ground tremble with her forced landing. Men fell from their horses, and the woman inside the carriage was terrified.
"Where do you think you're going, Lady Lannister? I see you didn't stay to guard your city." Jon spoke calmly, and the men trembled.
"Let's do this: I won't kill any of you, and you simply leave the woman." Jon said with the same calmness.
Surprisingly, all those men with the Lannister sigil on their chests did not think twice and then began to run away from there.
"Where do you think you're going? Don't expect us to forget this!" the woman shouted in despair, left alone with her daughter beginning to cry in fear.
Even the most trusted men Kevan had placed to protect his family simply fled. Their eyes betrayed their fear when they looked back at the dragon, swallowing hard as she clutched her little one with tears.
"It seems now it's just you."
"Please... Have mercy on me and my daughter." At that moment, there was nothing more she could do but beg.
Daemon said nothing; he simply began, raising his hand toward the woman, who felt an invisible force seize her body and her daughter's. She screamed, but it was useless. In the next moment, she was flying, ripped from the carriage and hurled directly toward the dragon. At first, the idea of being devoured by the dragon, as they drew closer to the dragon's head, terrified them both, and she screamed with the little one as if she were about to die, but Daemon pulled her to himself, passing over Winter's head before delivering a single slap to the head of the older woman and the child, strong enough only to knock them unconscious.
"I already have these Lannisters... Now we'll deal with Casterly Rock."
Jon said, placing the unconscious woman in front of him as Winter lifted her wings and departed.
Lannisport was conquered in about half an hour. Jon issued an order by parchment for Lord Tallhart to continue overseeing the city and to intercept reinforcements bound for the Lannister seat. He returned to the army farther north with the two hostages.
Genna was desperate when she began to see Lannisport in the distance and could even hear the sounds of war. The port had already fallen; she knew it.
That Daemon Targaryen had used a damned dragon. Soon, men were running to Casterly Rock begging for help, civilians and soldiers in despair over the lost city.
She already knew they would be next.
Three days later, the army of thirty thousand men was already before Casterly Rock, with another seven thousand coming by sea, blocking all attempts at reinforcement.
Genna could only pray, knowing that her daughter-in-law and sister-in-law had been taken; she now feared that her soldiers would betray them at any moment.
They saw the siege take shape, if it could even be called that, because when Daemon prepared to act, everyone saw her roar like thunder.
The gate at the front of the castle shattered as if it were nothing, with pieces flying in all directions, crushing men who had only time to scream in despair before dying in a terrible way.
And so, Casterly Rock had fallen. That man set foot in the castle for the second time, and in all the history of the Westerlands, a Lannister had lost the seat of their house.
Tywin was that Lannister. The man who destroyed his family in pursuit of elevating it.
