"Are you waiting for me? I'm almost at the hospital. You're not feeling well, so I'm coming to find you," Ian Monroe asked, his voice full of hope.
A lump formed in Melody Monroe's throat, and she nearly burst into tears.
'She was in Jansburg and Ian is in Rockwellburg. How could he possibly find her?'
"Sweetheart, listen to Mommy. Don't move. Don't wander off. A police officer will be there to get you soon," Melody Monroe said soothingly.
"Are they going to take me to see you?"
"You'll see Mommy a little later. For now, have you found a safe place to wait?"
Ian Monroe looked around and spotted a large tree on the sidewalk. The little boy sat down on the stone block at its base.
"Uh-huh, I found one. I'm sitting by a tree."
"Good boy! That's great! Now listen to me: don't trust anyone. Don't leave with anyone! It doesn't matter if you know them or not. If anyone tries to take you away, you have to scream for help! Can you do that, Ian?"
"I can!" Ian Monroe nodded gravely.
