He spoke so casually, but she felt like she was on pins and needles.
"This money... it isn't all mine. How could I possibly have that much? Some of it was from friends who invested, and some of it I borrowed. I was just trying to help you back then. I had no idea... This industry seemed so profitable, but I never imagined how treacherous it could be. I know I was wrong. From now on, I'll listen to everything you say." Lana Sheffield walked over and hugged Christopher Sterling's arm, cajoling him.
"How much of it was your own money?"
"Eighteen million," Lana Sheffield replied in a small voice.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.

Rose Shaw pushed the door open and walked in. Her gaze landed on Lana Sheffield's hands, which were clinging to Christopher Sterling's arm. Her eyes lingered for only a moment before she quickly looked away.
