A waiter pushed open a pair of heavy doors and gestured for Melody Monroe to enter.
"Miss Monroe, we've arrived."
Melody Monroe walked in, a confused look on her face.
Suddenly, the doors shut behind her, making her jump!
There was no one here!
Then, all the lights went out.
A single beam of light shone down on her, like a spotlight on a stage. Beyond her, everything was pitch black.
Although she couldn't see her surroundings, she wasn't nervous or afraid at all anymore.
She slowly walked forward, the spotlight following her steps.
She still couldn't see anything around her or get her bearings, but she could sense a familiar presence very, very close by.
Suddenly, the light went out. Before Melody Monroe could react, she fell into a searing hot embrace.
"I knew it was you."
Evan Fairchild held her tightly as the wall sconces slowly brightened, faintly revealing their surroundings.
