What Matt had promised Derrick was very simple: he would evenly sprinkle some of the powder Derrick had given him all over his suit.
At the time, Matt had no idea what the powder was. However, since he'd agreed to the arrangement, he had no choice but to apply it.
As a result, when Matt went out in his suit that night, a passing gangster spotted him immediately. It was only then that Matt realized the powder was glitter.
Thus, Daredevil became Shiny. The demon of the night had instantly become the brightest guy in Hell's Kitchen.
If Matt hadn't been a Catholic who respected priests, he would have started swearing at Derrick.
"Listen to me. Let me explain."
Derrick said seriously, "Our main objective this time is to rescue someone. But there are only two of us, so if we recklessly break into the enemy's territory, we could be discovered at any moment. If either of us gets spotted, forget about rescuing anyone. We might not even be able to protect ourselves."
After hearing Derrick's explanation, Matt began to consider their situation.
'Indeed, the Hand's territory isn't easy to infiltrate. After all, we'll be facing a bunch of well-trained ninjas skilled in various fighting styles and weapons.'
If things went wrong, their chances of rescuing Erica would drop significantly, and that was the last thing Matt wanted.
"It's just... what does having glitter all over my suit have to do with any of this?"
"That brings me to the plan. Let me explain." Derrick spoke slowly. "One of us will deliberately expose himself and attract the attention of as many enemies as possible. That will give the other person a chance to sneak in and rescue Erica. Back in my hometown, we call this the strategy of luring the tiger away from the mountain."
"I see... You're the mercenary, so let's follow your plan."
Matt thought the plan made some sense. At the very least, it would help them avoid a lot of trouble.
Seeing this, Derrick immediately grew serious. "However, the person who exposes himself will have a difficult task. He'll need to attract the attention of most of the enemies to reduce the risk of the other person being discovered."
Matt fell silent for a moment before replying expressionlessly, "Leave it to me. I'll attract their attention while you go rescue Erica."
Derrick gave him a thumbs-up. "As expected of Lawyer Murdock! You're truly responsible. Since you've volunteered, I won't compete with you for this difficult task."
Matt didn't respond. He now understood what Derrick had been getting at from the start. With his glitter-covered suit, it was practically impossible for him to avoid attracting attention.
"Let's hurry." Matt jumped down in front of Derrick. He didn't want to waste any time, since Erica was still in the Hand's hands. The longer they delayed, the greater the danger she would be in.
"Wait, I need to grab something." As he spoke, Derrick picked up the large bag he'd prepared earlier.
Although Matt was puzzled, he didn't ask any questions. He simply led Derrick quickly through the streets of Hell's Kitchen.
Soon, they stopped outside a building.
Hiding in a corner, Matt said, "I've investigated this place. It's supposedly a transportation company from Japan, but all the employees inside are actually ninjas in disguise. There are probably more of them hiding somewhere in the building, so we'd better be careful."
With a confident expression, Derrick took a small device out of his pocket and handed it to Matt. "This is a communicator."
Matt nodded and took it.
The two didn't enter through the main entrance. Instead, they made their way into the building through the underground parking garage.
"Bang!"
A pistol suddenly appeared in Derrick's hand. He fired a special bullet at the surveillance camera in the underground parking garage. The bullet had a jammer attached to it, which he'd bought from Weasel. It was designed to make the camera loop its footage.
With the surveillance cameras no longer a concern, the two quickly found the stairs leading to the upper floors.
"Erica should be on one of the upper floors. We'll start searching from the top."
"That shouldn't be a problem."
Derrick and Matt raced up the stairs toward the upper floors.
When they reached the thirteenth floor, Matt listened for any movement beyond the door. After confirming that everything was clear, the two stepped into the corridor.
The corridor was dark, and the entire place was as silent as a haunted house, making their skin crawl.
After walking a few steps, Matt suddenly stopped and whispered, "I hear something. Hide quickly."
Derrick didn't have Matt's superhuman senses, but he could see reasonably well in the dark. Two souls appeared in his field of mana, approaching them.
Without saying a word, Derrick turned and headed back toward the stairs.
Matt, however, didn't retreat. Reacting quickly, he found a suitable corner and hid.
Matt clearly had more experience handling situations like this than Derrick did. He knew exactly where people's blind spots were.
It was precisely this exceptional stealth that had earned Daredevil his reputation as the Red Devil.
As the two figures gradually approached, Matt held his breath, seemingly merging with the surrounding darkness.
Using his heightened senses, he could feel the two men passing by.
Just as Matt thought they would walk right past him, the two suddenly turned their heads toward his hiding place.
"Where's my stash... A fucking shiny ghost!!" one of the men yelled as he switched on his flashlight to search for his missing stash, its beam reflecting off Matt's glitter-covered suit.
"Idiot! That's not a ghost! It's an intruder! Someone's broken in!!"
Matt: "..."
'How could I have forgotten about this?'
