Chapter 4 - The Reason

Seeing Mio's shocked expression, Otto decided to explain the whole story.

"You were summoned because Azure is facing a crisis." Otto began with a solemn look. "Monsters are getting aggressive and their population is starting to blow up from normal; Let's use the griffon that attacked you as an example; griffons are solitary creatures, they ignore other beasts and humans alike. But for some reason, they are turning primal and starts attacking anything or anyone it sees."

"Did you discover anything about why this is happening?" Mio asked skeptically. "I'm pretty sure you already started an investigation before summoning me."

Otto nodded; "We did. We narrowed down to a particular piece of ritual. Someone casted a large scale dark magic ritual to influence monsters to attack innocent people. We also discovered traces of experiments of forced evolution and merger of different monsters to create more powerful versions."

"Who are you really?" Mio asked, giving Otto a piercing look "And don't give me that cryptic stuff. Get to the point."

"Alright." Otto conceded. "The truth. My name is Otto, and at the same time, I'm also the Spirit Guardian of Azure Kingdom. The King tasked me to look for someone to solve this problem. I exhausted all my energy to find someone from this realm but failed. However, I discovered an obscure piece of magic in the castle library – a particular ritual with a singular purpose. To summon someone from another realm with a powerful mana capacity talent. Truthfully, this was a gamble but it worked; that's why you're here."

"You must be kidding me? You summoned me out of the blue just because I have this 'mana-capacity' you mentioned?" Mio said somewhat hysterically then suddenly realized something. "Wait, I'm supposed to solve this problem? Are you kidding me? I'm a teenager! What do you expect me to do?"

Otto glanced at the almost hysterical teen in front of him. She was right; she was a teenager and being yanked out of her world to come to Azure and expected to save it without prior warning was somewhat unfair. However, they were desperate. He decided to placate the teen before she completely flips out.

"Age doesn't matter in this case. The Azure Kingdom is different from your world. Here, age is just a number." Otto explained. "What defines you here is skill and power. You can say that the stronger you are, the more respect you will get." Seeing Mio was about to go into another tirade, he raised his hand to stop the girl. "This is not a good place to talk. Let's get out of this cave first and head to the nearest town. Let's find a good place to rest then I will explain everything in detail."

Mio took a deep breath to calm her nerves. She knew that Otto was right. This was not the place nor time to fly out of the handle. They needed to get out of here to a safe place and get things sorted out. After all, she was definitely a stranger in this land and knowing nothing is tantamount to suidide with all these crazy monsters and magic appearing out of nowhere.
