Chapter 313 - Adventure of Astral Part 58.8: Medical Remission

Angel dug her hands into her hair worried for the safety of her brother as the three ladies brought in three small bags of utensils to begin to work on James. "Lark this is gonna be hard to watch. I suggest you just prepare yourself." Rodger put on gloves as one of the ladies unrolled a bag and handed him a scalpel. It glided through his skin effortlessly as he lined out all of the dead skin.

"We can't replicate a full graft onto his back. However what we are looking for is more internal bleeding along the pierce points." He pointed the tip of his scalpel at each wound. "How can we tell if these wounds have internal bleeding?" He turned around and looked at them. "Suction ready?" The ladies nodded as he waited their answer.

"With how swollen the area around each stab wound is." One of them squeaked out. The frozen look of fear still on their faces of the entire situation. Rodger gave a slight nod. He felt each wound with his fingers. Nothing, it all felt empty and fake.

"He guessed." Rodger gave himself a moment of pause as he opened up the first wound in the center of his chest. There was nothing but air and solidified blood. It wasn't fluid or burnt. Just existing. "This is where we marvel at what his abilities are. You came here to see something new?" He grabbed the ball of blood and raised it as it held form inside of his hand. They all looked at it as Angel closed her eyes and curled into a ball.

"This is a mass of blood. It holds its form for no reason. And yet it remains inside of his body because he thinks it's needed. There is no damage to his organs. All muscle tissue was put back together. He just needed to know what filled the void." He set the mass to the side. "Weird that his own body doesn't know what it needs to heal itself." He opened the next two wounds and removed each clump slowly. The three looked in enamored fashion.

"Do we have the bandages soaked in the disinfectant?" Rodger asked as the one held it up in her hands. "You three can wrap him up slowly. He is still very weak, I can tell because his metabolism has to be skyrocketing to make up for the body mass he has made." Rodger paused. "After escort him to a bed and hook him up with saline and we will track his progress every other day." The three stayed silent.

"Sir. We have to ask, what are these two?" The middle one asked as they hid behind her curly brown hair.

"Well. They are fabled children and the heroes for the hybrids. At least. That's what they want to be for themselves and for others." Rodger looked at the three large clumps he removed. "I however have monitored their miraculous growth from underweight children to healthy teens."

"Isn't it against the law to have hybrids for pets in the city limits? Because they can turn dangerous at any moment?" The blonde lady asked as she looked over to Angel who uncurled and rested her head on the wall looking up.

"See, there are no city limits out here. Far enough out for it to not be an issue. Them being dangerous is more of a." He looked over to Angel as she kept looking at her brother. "Situational circumstances. They can be viscous and crass and aggressive. But like any wild animal. What provokes them?" Angel's ears perked up.

"Most of us are treated cruelly from birth. Some don't have parents. Others don't have family. We have been taught right from wrong. The only reason why some of us know nurture is because it's been shown to us." Angel outstretched her arms holding both Rodger and Lark in her imaginary grasps. "The will to be good will outweigh the weight to be bad. Nature will take it's course but what is to be human other than choice of will?"

The EMT staff stood silent as their worldview had been shifted. "If anything is given proper care they would be treated as such?" The blonde hair EMT smiled. "They are wiser and smarter than we ever will be." She straddled over to Angel. "Can I pet your wings?" Rodger went wide eyed as no one knew what to expect. A reaffirming chirp from Angel with a soft nod gave her confidence as she gently laid her hands along her feathers. Silence filled the air as she didn't have reasons to speak other than being stunned.

"Okay, your son's all patched up." The brunette haired lady had a small bit of bandage left in her hand. "Rodger, you said something else when you asked for this to be kept a secret. Why? For what reason would we really need to keep it secret." She stood there still. The black hair lady had already began on cleanup.

"Rosie. How much did you pay attention in high school history class?" Rodger asked as Lark sat back in a chair and waited for his small cue.

"It was my worst subject. The teacher was boring and didn't engage with us at all on many matters." She slowly back herself against the wall. "Was I supposed to pay a lot of attention?" She looked over at the two of them as neither men budged a inch.

"Why are hybrids so hated? You never thought of that? Or did it also not realize for you that they are just wild beasts?" Lark strongly voiced his part. "I have killed many and many of hybrids. Most of them were violent." He paused for a moment. "Something didn't ever add up for who those who studied. The government told us way long ago that the hybrids were just evil creatures. Does that look true?"

Rosie shook her head no as the blonde and black hair ladies both now started to have everything dawn onto them. "Nothing made sense for the reasons of why when you looked at them closely. We did what any responsible civilian would do and tried to find the truth." Lark paused. "Angel, do you remember what the hybrids were before?"

"They were the rulers of the planet. Before humans evolved, hybrids coexisted with them for millennia before humans took a leap of magical proportions. They took over the planet with technology and this power called aura. Granting them superhuman abilities." They listened. "What my brother unlocked was his own aura to put us on an even playing field with the rest. How even is still to be determined, until I get my own its a losing war." She fluttered her wings as she became anxious for her own.

"We just get to sit back and guide these kids for their own path. Lark, you get to teach them biology and basic human anatomy." Rodger handed him some bandages. "Where are the other two?"

"They bought a house inside of the city to make operations a little easier." Lark smiled. "Don't think they can't get around with how they move?" Lark laughed as he looked at James. "He will rest here for a few weeks until he is ready. Angel may do one final thing before she joins them in the city." Lark watched as he and Rodger saw James' body react on its own.

"So we now are traitors to the government for what we have done?" Rosie stood as James' calm breath picked up pace. None of them really had hard reactions as they awaited what he would start doing.

"It's his body slowly adapting back to normal. But we fixed that?" Rodger scratched his head as both of them sighed. The three ladies began to place all of their things away as they disinfected them and put them away. "His body could also be stressed with how intense the fight was, and how much the surgery drained from him." Rodger felt the disconnect immediately. "He needs as much nutrients as possible. Rosie grab the IV's. every bag you have." She nodded and took off. Before any of them could move Angel was back with them.

They stood motionless as they awaited their eardrums to burst from the incoming sound wave. "Atta girl Angel." Lark walked over and scratched her head as the rest stood paused for a moment before the blonde nurse helped Rosie and Rodger get him injected with the solution.

"She can move that fast and not break the sound barrier?" The black haired nurse asked the two of them.

"Call it one of her many unique abilities. With her being a hybrid with pure white wings. My friend and I looked at the different animals that could be used for it. What's silent, flies in the night, and has one for a snowy variant." Lark kept scratching her head.

"Which means even if she was in the city, no sounds, no radars, no anything pick her off. It's a bold move sir." She slowly stammered on her words. "What of being here? Keeping your base at the country side?"

"Deployment time for actions and protests. Its easy to have two humans disguise themselves among them. Using two young people like themselves to spread awareness and protest the government's cruelty on hybrids." Lark stepped over as James settled down. "It does help to spread the work of many across the world. But the government is all centralized in one spot. Meaning one target." A collective of soft awes came from the nurses.

Rosie went into the living room and swaddled up James as best she could in a blanket. "You kids are so brave to fight a war humans should have never started." She gently scratched his ears as a soft purr came from him.

Rodger had a breath of relief. "So, we just get to go back to normal. If the kids get hurt to this extreme again. I feel good about getting you even more help. Can I send these three to the new place for checkups on random nicks and bruises?" He looked at Angel as she nodded yes. "Good. Lark, if I don't see you soon. Keep them safe." He coughed into a handkerchief as the rest all looked at him worried.

Lark felt a piece of his heart crack. "Rodger, what is it." His eyes watered as Rodger returned a light smile.

"It will take me before these kids have a chance to free the world. But I will do my best to live through it." He smiled as all of them in the room were worried.

"Then we just have to work faster." James lightly pressed out from his lungs as the air lifted from the room. All of them heeded the moment and had a pause. "We can extend friendships to all. And I hope that when it comes to an end. You will see us be able to walk as freely as you Rodger." James lowered his chin a bit to show respect as exhaustion overtook him.

Rodger held pause for a moment. "The kid has more spirit even than you." Rodger gave a thumbs up. "Its major. It's some sort of non contagious Polio. I've been looking around for forever and it's only in my body so far.

"We can help make a cure for." Rosie stammered.

"It's too late. My body is already shutting down in parts. I was told to be on bedrest and closely monitored by my doctor. I said this was an urgent family matter. Adeline didn't like it but I told her I was to be escorted with other medical professionals." Rodger tapped his heart. "I will hold on for these kids. My will leaves a majority of things to Lark other than my notes, which are for you three to share."

"You can hold out for us. I believe in you. Your heart will be the last thing that leaves you." Angel reached over and tapped him on his chest as tears streamed down his face.

"I think we should slowly get going. James gets to rest up, you three still have work. Both Angel and Lark have more things to work on other than be worried about me." Rodger gave a soft smile as the three nodded. "I will write to you three daily." He slowly shuffled out the door.

Rosie and the others followed him quickly. Ecstatic to be the new leg of the revolution and revelations of the world. Then it was Angel and Lark in the house as James slept peacefully. "Could you stay here until I come back after delivering this to where it needs to go." Lark pulled out the book that he left in his coat jacket. Angel gave a soft nod as she pulled up a chair and snuggled up to her brother.

Lark closed the door gently to the house and locked the door. Each step he took away was another where he began to worry about each and every other person that had joined him on the initial journey. "Why couldn't it be anyone else, why him." He slammed his car door shut as he looked into the booklet and typed in the address for where he needed to go.

After five hours of continuous driving, the day shifted into night. He parked across the street of the house down the end of the cul-de-sac. Sighing he opened the door and peered through the windows. Two kids and a widow making food. Lark sat on his hood for a moment.
