Chapter 17 - The Chase

My heart is pounding, my vision is blurry, I huff loudly with the Teleporter tight in my right hand. I felt as if I was losing myself, that woman is dangerous, too strong, her charm being something undeniably dangerous. And it felt good.... I hate that it felt good.

When my vision clears up, I see the eyes of Koakuma pointed at me, she rushes over to the table, my senses coming back from the shock I just had. "Are you alright? What happened?"

My hand wipes over my forehead, sweat coming off. "Wait... just one second..." I move my limbs forward, a stack of books dropping as I scurry to the edge and drop down. "Where is Patchouli?"

Once I stand up, my body is still shaking. Koakuma takes note of this. "Patchy is looking for something. She should be back soon. Please tell me what happened." The red haired woman repeats once more.

"There's someone, an attacker. I need help."

"Stay here," she responds and flies off to inform the workers inside this library.

One by one, they get into position. It's stunning to see, somewhat soothing too as my heart stops pounding so loudly. My own lust goes away right after, leaving me in a better position than before.

Koakuma would come down again, seeing my now seated form and smiling slightly. "It's Yukari isn't it?" The name I would always forget...

"Yes," I nod along. "I have so many questions, all of them having to wait I guess. How do you know?"

"She told me about it beforehand. Patchouli was suspecting things. It's kind of bad that she's right in that regard." Koakuma chuckles, the muscles in her face flickering between relaxed and alert. It's confusing, leaving me to guess what she truly feels in this situation.

"Did she also train this defensive stance with the people here?"

She shakes her head in denial. "This isn't the first time intruders have come. The biggest one perhaps has been a shrine maiden and her witch friend."

A shrine maiden huh? Sanae and... that witch I saw on the frog. Maybe they had some sort of past, a dispute. "I see," I respond absentmindedly, keeping my questions for next time I see either of them. Sanae will surely notice me missing soon.

Time passes with Koakuma keeping close to me. Yukari might be scared off now, that would be the best case scenario for me. I still think about what happened back at the shrine for days on. The way I couldn't talk about that topic to anyone. It would've been smarter to do so...

"You seemed taken aback some time ago. What happened?" Koakuma asks in order to bridge time.

My expression darkens. "Yukari used some weird stuff on me. I couldn't really think. It was like some sort of thing changed my brain. Her touch felt so much more intense as well I could only escape because," I have such a big crush for Patchouli. Though I cannot really say that can I?

She genuinely gives it a thought. "She could have a succubi tooth." I listen intently, Koakuma noticing my sudden interest. "They're rare, you can only get them in urban areas in hell."

"Urban areas in hell?"

The red haired girl chuckles. "Of course. Hell is a place like any other. Though you shouldn't go there as a human unless you're strong, otherwise you'll get corrupted by the souls there." This confuses me, hell being just a regular place here. Let alone it being a place I can visit. "Well they are rare and powerful. People used to use them, hide them in rooms to make people jerk off so they could gather things to blackmail them later."

Their conversation is interrupted. "What in the nine hells is going on? This was supposed to be a day where I'd be sorting things out, not attending to some minor issues." Patchouli is fuming, I've never heard her be so loud before.

"Patchy, uh, please calm down." She is about to go off at her friend, before she sees her nodding to the sky where the people inside the library have taken up a defensive stance. Her eyes close, and listens. "Yukari wants something from the boy, she has a Succubi tooth and uses it against him."

Patchouli smirks slightly. "Alright then. Even if she gets the boy, she'll be thoroughly disappointed." But why? "You stay with him. I want to see if she puts up a good fight against me. Make sure to inspect if the barrier books are working, I don't want one bit of dust to damage any pages." She instructs confidently. There seems to be some sort of history between the two.

The implications of that are confusing. It sounds like she already won even if I get captured. Does this mean I am but a recourse to her? It pains me in my chest.

"Before I go!" I called out to Patchouli. "Please stay safe okay? I would really like to hang out again after all of this... That is if you want to." My gaze is pointed at the woman's fair face, as she stares back in surprise.

"I-" She looks at me like a deer in headlights, Koakuma pulling at my arm as we go away.

The little demon is side-eyeing me with a smirk once we head away to the shelves. "What?" I asked with a sigh.

"You really like her don't you?" Koakuma teases.

"I just wish she wouldn't be so closed off to me..." I sigh out in return.

Her shoulder bumps with mine. "You're frowning. Stop that." She smiles brightly, though her attempt does little to actually cheer me up. "Patchy is honestly just terrible social wise. She cannot really relate to peoples feelings as well as others do. Everything needs to be orderly, things need to be as quiet as possible, it's frustrating at first but she warms up eventually. Even to you. Just give it more time, you'll eventually hit off with her."

Koakuma hit the spot. My gaze shifts to the ground as I think about her words. Patience. If only I had as much as she did.

Yukari comes out of the Portal. She's immediately attacked by fairies and books. She quickly dodges by jumping behind. Three way bubble bullets are shot out from her, destroying the books that attacked her. The last fairy flees, but she can already see the next threat approaching.

"Expecting my visit huh? I imagine you know I am here to get my property back." Yukari hisses at the ever more angering librarian.

"Talking about people like they're objects is very fitting for you." Both arms are stretched out, if there's any movement coming from Yukari, Patchouli will strike instantly. "It seems like you're more obsessive about my student than you have been about anyone before. Perhaps he's someone you're affectionate towards?"

She laughs. "Has he told you anything about my advances towards him? He seems like an absolute loser. Just let me take care of it, he's a foreigner anyway."

As Yukari floats forward, her enemy throws a fire bolt that impacts the barrier cast on the shelf right in front of her. "This is your last warning you bitch. Turn around and leave." Three magic books float right to the back of Yukari, her face forming a smile.

"This won't work little librarian..." The woman flies up, creating beautiful white-purple coloured danmanku. The books shoot up, but her defensive pattern is too strong to pierce it.

The bullets fly out to shatter the magic books. When Yukari looks back at her opponent only to find her missing. When she realizes the pentagram shaped projectile hell coming down right at her its too late to dodge. The explosion creates dust, Patchouli minds her distance as she waits for the dust to settle.

Yukari still stands, no, slouches. Her breath is ragged while her feet shakily stand on the ground. The confident smile is gone, replaced with a gaze of hatred. Scratches are visible on her smooth pale skin, and even her clothes have cuts in them. Without a word said, she quickly starts flying towards Patchouli.

Surprised by this, she hurls projectile after projectile at the accelerating Yukari only for them to miss.

The blonde woman tackles Patchouli, holding her close as portals appear around the two women. Yukari evacuates at the last second as a barrage of purple projectiles hit the mage.

After vision is established, Yukari sees her opponent cough. Patchouli's shield tanked her attacks. "You're much tougher than I thought for a rather feeble woman," she hurls out.

"You annoy me wench!" She hisses back, using her spell card against her. Patchouli uses her metal sign 'metal fatigue' with a slow moving horde of orange-yellow hot metal balls being emitted from her.

The sudden use of that spell card surprises Yukari once more. She's able to squeeze through the horde at first, though after one tears a hole through the middle of her dress she uses her portals to catch some of the bullets to ready herself for her favourite attack.

Patchouli sees Yukari preparing for an attack and tries to move away. She's too late, too slow, Yukari uses the built up portals and fuses them, her arm pointing at the purple mage with a wide grin on her face.

A massive modern train flies right towards the magician, she quickly activates a shield which is strong enough to save her. Despite that, Patchouli is brought down. Crushed underneath the train, she struggles to wiggle herself free. Yukari looks at her, giggling. There's no word coming from her mouth as she leaves.

Patchouli's hands form fists as she slowly tries to free herself. Too little, too late.

"Those yellow balls look so pretty." I tell Koakuma, completely distracted to what's going on around the shelves.

She hits my head with a book. "I know it is, but focus. Use your magic on the shelf."

While my hand creates a small flame, I run it around the bookshelf to see if the barrier is working. "I just hope that she's fine..." My worries seep through.

"Awe~" Koakuma smiles, her shoulder bumping with mine. "It's cute that you care so much about her. It really is. You really got a crush on a woman five times your age." She giggles.

The way the little devil phrased that makes me chuckle. "I forgot that she isn't a human. Or that you aren't human. Most people I hang out with aren't human actually..."

"Only because we look like them?" She smirks, looking up at me.

"Well yeah... You look like a human, talk like a human, act like a human..." It makes me wonder if certain things like coitus would be possible. Luckily she can't read his mind.

Her shoulder lightly bumps against my arm. "Are you saying I am not a living thing?" She teases.

"No! Of course not, it's just weird that there are other human-like creatures, that's all." I sigh, Koakuma really does a good job at taking my mind off things. Making me forget about the gravity of the situation we're in.

The quiet atmosphere around us helps there as well. Though why is it so eerily quiet all of the sudden. My eyes look past Koakuma, seeing a portal pop up right next to her.

"KOAKUMA WATCH OUT!" I scream in horror as I throw myself onto her. My reaction is quick enough to where the two of us lie flat on the ground, bullets hitting the barrier of the bookshelves.

When we look up, Yukari hovers high up in the air. There's a horrifying gleam of anger in her eyes. "Cheating on me already? I'll tear this library down if you don't come here right now boy." Her form steadily approaches us.

"Run," she breathes out as we get up. "Run, now! Don't let her catch you, I'll hold her off until Patchouli comes." Koakuma almost shouts.

I take one last look up, Yukari rushes down now and I run. Only the sound of spells are heard as they grow more and more faint. I keep running though. I just keep running.

My adrenaline is at its end after ten or so minutes. I sit down, no idea where I could be. I'm lost in Patchouli's library. Safe I hope. My heart is pounding, my chest is hurting, there's a sole book just flying around me, keeping me safe I suppose.

A minute passes, then two, then three. I feel safe, my heart is calming down. The book opens, shooting a purple ball out which gets cut in half by Yukari's portal.

In response she blasts the book, disintegrating it through a beam before her feet finally reach the wooden ground.

I got a good look at her, those torn stockings, the dress that is hanging on barely as it's almost completely torn in half at the middle section, her disgusting smile at finally having me. Oh that dangerous red glint looking at me as if I was food...

I'm shaking, quivering relentlessly while my heart is racing. If only I wasn't exhausted, if only I could get up. Yukari isn't even saying anything, she looks down on me, her soft hand strokes my cheek before a portal is created right below me and I disappear into the ground.
