Cherreads

Chapter 9 - Escaped Pokemon Incident 2.

(Third Person POV, with Red)

The young trainer had just defeated Weedle near the forest of Pallet and prepared to catch him.

"Go Pokeball!" Red threw a pokeball at the worm Pokémon.

*THUD* *THUD* *THUD* *CLICK*

Weedle was caught.

"Alright! Another catch." Red.

He picked up the ball and stored it in his pocket.

*RUSTLING*

Behind Red, a bush started to make some noises, prepared with his trusty Poliwhirl, and looked inside the bush.

Inside, he saw Bulbasaur struggling with some vines, the two of them locked eyes as Red gave an awkward smile.

"Hey~" Red.

"Bulbs!" Bulbasaur didn't waste time and shot some Stun Spore powder towards Red.

"Ah! Achoo!" Red jumped back as he kept sneezing.

"Bulba, bulba!" Bulbasaur brushed off the vines and dashed away.

"Hey! Achoo! Come back you little—" Red chased after the small bulb Pokemon.

(With Blue)

His battle against Charmander raged on more intensely as his Blaze ability activated, boosting his Fire moves.

"Quick Attack!" Blue commanded.

Scyther's speed flared as he dashed towards Charmander.

*SMASH*

A direct hit at Charmander's body.

Charmander opened his maws and bit on Scyther, keeping him in place. Scyther struggled trying to pry the small lizard off of him, but Charmander kept his jaw locked tightly.

"It even has Bite?!" Blue exclaimed before he focused his thoughts. 'As much as I'd like to just use a point-blank slash, it might injure Charmander a bit too much, I'll use this then…'

"False Swipe!" Blue.

Scyther's hand-blades glowed a radiant white before dimming lower and lower, he raised his left cleave and slashed Charmander right in the throat.

*GAGH* Charmander grasped for air.

Unlike games, False Swipe works differently in real life, it does cause damage to your opponent, but more than physical damage it becomes a hit that fakes damage by tricking one's nervous system, even if the attack was dealt in a lethal area it really didn't did such a thing, but the Pokémon's body will certainly feel that way.

That's why even though his throat is uninjured, Charmander feels that it got damaged. However, that's also the reason why its incapable of actually making other Pokemon faint, I know that's kinda the point, but I just don't get why it's been used as a way to finish off an opponent in the anime.

"Now, finish him with Fury Cutter!" Blue.

Scyther raised his cleave, now glowing in a mossy green hue, and slashed Charmander with it.

"Char...!" Charmander wailed as he fell.

"Now's my chance!" Blue threw the Pokeball.

*SHIING* *WOOP*

Charmander was caught.

Blue took the ball and smirked. "Not too shabby." He pocketed it as he looked at Scyther's condition.

Although he didn't show it, Scyther was actually pretty tired, he had the desire to fight but his stamina isn't that great since he's less than a month old.

Blue noticed that and sat near a big rock.

"I'm tired from running around all day, let's take a quick 5-minute break." Blue commented as he got himself comfortable.

"Scy! Scyther!" Scyther was clearly mad at Blue's "laziness".

"Yeah, yeah, quit your yapping and just sit, I ain't moving from here and you won't find the others without my help so, sit." Blue commanded.

Scyther's frown faltered a little, but he just sighed and let himself fall on the ground to enjoy the breeze and sunlight.

(Back with Gary)

He's currently fighting Meowth near a lake in Pallet.

"Use Quick Attack!" Gary.

Eevee dashed at high speed towards Meowth. Meowth's claw glows white as he lunges at Eevee.

*SHING* *SHING* *BANG*

Eevee managed to deliver a powerful tackle but also got slashed twice, Eevee quickly brushed the injuries off as Meowth's coin started glowing, from it lots of smaller coins were shot towards Eevee.

"That's Pay Day, counter it with Alluring Voice." Gary.

"Ee...…vee!" Eevee gathered his voice before unleashing a soft and captivating screech.

The screech successfully blocks the incoming coins, but neither side is willing to give in and maintain their attacks, until a figure from the lake emerges.

*SPLOOSH*

Tentacool jumps from the lake and shoots Poison Stings at Eevee.

Distracted by the incoming coins, Eevee receives the attack head on.

"Vee!!" Eevee falls back.

"Where did that come from?!" Gary looked at Tentacool and then at Meowth, who had a mischievous expression.

'Kaori once said that Meowth is smart enough to ally itself with other species of Pokemon, I just wasn't expecting it to be Tentacool. Although, it does answer the question as to how he got out of the lab.' Gary thought before looking at Eevee.

A small purple blush appeared in his face as he started to pant over and over.

'Darn it, Eevee's poisoned. I need to finish this quick and give him either an antidote or a Pecha Berry...but on the other hand...' Gary cursed mentally.

"Eevee, can you hold on?" Gary asked.

Eevee looked back at the boy and straightened itself up before nodding.

"Vee!"

'Alright, let's try to make this fast.' Gary thought as he steeled himself.

"Wait up!!!!"

Gary looked back and saw Ash running by the side of the river, Magikarp was chasing the fleeting Poliwag as he continued to disobey Ash's orders.

"Use Hydro Pump again!" Ash commanded.

Magikarp didn't do anything other than keep swimming towards Poliwag; he then gathered his strength and leaped out of the water.

Poliwag looked behind him and lowered his guard a little after seeing that his pursuer was no longer behind him, Ash didn't count for him. However, he didn't paid attention at the incoming Magikarp that just let gravity do its thing and guide him at the clueless Poliwag.

*CRASH*

Magikarp crash-landed on top of Poliwag like a missile, dragging him lower into the river as Ash took out a Pokeball.

*SPUSH* Magikarp tail-slapped Poliwag upwards, giving Ash a clear shot.

"Go, Pokeball!" Ash.

*SWISH* *BOOP*

Poliwag was caught.

"Yeah! We did it Magikarp!" Ash celebrated.

"Kaaaarp!" Magikarp shot a torrent of water at his face in response.

Just as he was about to retrieve Magikarp, Tentacool shot some Poison Stings at the Fish Pokemon.

"Watch out Magikarp!" Ash.

Hearing Ash's distressed voice, Magikarp dove underwater, evading the stings. He then re-emerges and frowns at the sneak attacker.

"How did you just notice that?!" Gary asked, bewildered.

"Gary, what are you doing here?" Ash.

"What am I—in case you haven't noticed, there's a fugitive Meowth and Tentacool to catch." Gary.

Ash looks at the side and saw that Meowth and Tentacool had regrouped. He then looked at Eevee, the purple hue getting darker and darker by the minute.

"I don't think Eevee's doing too good." Ash commented in worry.

"Then let's finish this quickly and take him back to gramps." Gary.

"Yeah!" Ash.

Magikarp also noticed Eevee's dilemma and decided to comply in order to catch the runaway duo.

"Nya! Nya, nye, ne na!" Meowth said something to Tentacool.

One of Tentacool's tentacles did a little salute and submerged himself.

"Follow him Magikarp, Tackle him!" Ash.

Magikarp also went underwater, chasing after Tentacool.

Ash took off his shirt, shoes and pants and threw himself into the lake to get a better view.

Gary decided to not pay any mind to that and went for the offensive. "Quick Attack!"

Eevee's body glowed dimly as he dashed towards Meowth.

Meowth's eyes glowed blue as he also dashed towards Eevee. The two field Pokemon clashed their bodies, Eevee got pushed back as Meowth delivered a powerful claw strike to Eevee's face.

"Vee!" Eevee exclaimed in pain.

"Crap, Eevee!" Gary called out for his Pokémon.

Meanwhile underwater.

Ash swam right behind Tentacool and Magikarp, somehow keeping up, as Tentacool appeared to be fleeing.

"Magi-AGH!" Ash tried to give an order before he realized that he couldn't breathe underwater.

Magikarp didn't even notice the blunder as his body glowed orange and swam faster towards Tentacool. The cephalopod's eyes narrowed as he extended his tentacles outwards and shot a cloud of poisonous gas underwater, becoming more ink-substance-like.

Magikarp got blinded and poisoned by the gas, constantly shifting around to wipe the ink away, but Tentacool wasn't gonna make that easy.

He latched onto Magikarp's whole body and started to squeeze. Ash watched helplessly as the poison chipped away Magikarp's health.

Immediately after he swam towards Tentacool and tried to pry him away from the fish Pokémon, however, all this was useless as Tentacool's suction cups stuck firmly on his prey regardless of its opponent's slippery body.

'Think Ash, think. How can I help here?!' Ash wondered as he racked his brain for ideas.

Suddenly, a memory popped up.

(Flashback)

Ash was listening to some classes that Kaori was giving in the plaza of Pallet Town to everyone willing to stay, mostly kids. It started as just a few of them being curious and asked him about several topics and Kaori obliged happily.

Now, it's a full-blown event in which anyone can get some more insight regarding Pokemon as a whole, this of course included Ash and his friends.

"Now, regarding Water-Type Pokemon, out of every species of them 3% of them are actually unable to breathe underwater like the rest of them." Kaori explained.

"Why's that?" A small kid with brown hair asked.

"Well, it varies depending on species but most of the time is due to how they process their oxygen intake. For example, Squirtle's evolutionary line have this unique quirk, their noses are separated in two sections, either side will be the one for breathing in land and the other will breath when underwater, it's an alternative reflex." Kaori.

Many kids were amazed by the small factoid.

"Sensei! I have a question!" A kid with a red bandana asked.

"You can just call me Kaori Chase, what's your question?" Kaori.

Chase answered. "My dad has a Tentacool and we play a lot but one day I touched his nose and he got all mad."

"Nose?" Kaori.

"That triangular thingy between his eyes." Chase specified.

"Rectangular-AH! Oh…I get it, no, yes, that's actually a very sensitive part for Tentacool." Kaori.

"Why?" Chase.

"Tentacool possesses two different sets of nostrils, one for underwater and other for above water air, the reason as to why he got upset is because it's a reflex to protect that part at all cost." Kaori.

"Ah…I need to apologize to Tentacool." Chase said in a sad face.

"Yeah, even a light tap can be of great discomfort for them." Kaori.

(Flashback ended.)

Ash swam towards Tentacool and clutched his face, after repeatedly tapping the nostril plaque, irritating the squid Pokémon. Tentacool immediately let go of Magikarp and scratched the part of his face.

Magikarp didn't let the chance go to waste and charged a Dragon Rage.

*SPLOOOOOOSH*

The sphere of draconic energy shot the squid upwards, leaving him defenseless on the road. Ash, who was running out of oxygen, got out of the river in gasps as weakly threw a Pokeball at the fallen mon.

Seeing the fallen Tentacool, Gary sharpened his gaze on the Meowth with Eevee.

"Let's finish this Eevee, Double Kick!" Gary.

Eevee lunged at Meowth, the cat Pokemon was distracted from the defeat of his accomplice and forgot to be aware of Eevee.

*SLAM* The first kick was the right frontal paw, it pushed Meowth a few inches back, Eevee used the momentum to balance itself in its front paws before his left lower paw came crashing down on Meowth.

*SLAM* the second kick pushed Meowth upwards as Eevee's remaining energy struggled against the poison.

"Finish him off with Last Resort!" Gary.

Eevee glowed as several stars surrounded its body, he jumped and clashed against Meowth, the starts aligning perfectly with the contact area.

*SHIIING SLAM*

Meowth fell with spirals in his eyes, Gary immediately returned Eevee to its pokeball before throwing one at Meowth.

*WOOP* *WOOP* *WOOP*

*DING*

Meowth was captured.

"Uh...what happened?" Ash, who finally regained consciousness, asked.

"We got them, let's go back to get the Pokemon healed!" Gary didn't beat around the bush and ran as fast as he could.

Remembering Magikarp's poisoned status, Ash returned him and dashed behind Gary...…after picking up his clothes of course.

 (With Red)

"You…huff…can…huff…run…but...huff...I…can…huff…go…huff…all...day…long...huff!" Red exclaimed in huffs as he chased after Bulbasaur.

Yes, he's been running behind the bulb Pokemon for several minutes, worst part? So was the mon! Neither of them had even realized how far they've strayed off of Pallet Town.

How far you ask? THEY LITERALLY REACHED VIRIDIAN CITY IN JUST ONE HOUR!!!!

"BULBA!!!" Bulbasaur complained as he entered the city.

"YOU'RE NOT ESCAPING!!!" Red yelled right behind him.

(In a certain Poke-mart.)

"Sorry for the wait." A delivery man apologized to a youngster with a Chimchar.

"No problem sir, was fun waiting 2 and a half hours in this sun with my buddy, wasn't it Chimchar?" Kaori.

"Char~" Chimchar nodded before climbing Kaori and resting in his shoulder.

"...Was that sarcasm…or…?" The delivery guy couldn't tell.

"Sarcasm?" Kaori was confused, why would he be sarcastic?

Before this back and forth could continue, Kaori saw something that caught his interest. A certain red-capped trainer chasing after a green toad Pokemon. The two made several turns, ran over tables of several street vendors, and even entered some person's house before the Pokemon crashed on a window of a closed building, the boy following soon after through a different window.

...

...…

...

'Huh?' Kaori was confused.

He stashed the packet in his bag and went towards the building they had entered.
