Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 who is he?

"Run, we're almost there; just a little bit more", he said while holding my hand as we ran to the car. I always wonder how I got here. How did this happen? Why now? Why today? But then again, it's not like I'm mad or anything; I'm quite happy this happened. Yeah, call me crazy, evil, or whatever you want, and whatever makes you feel better, I don't care because I'm in Haven. Ah, I forgot to introduce myself and explain what's happening.

My name is Sara Harper. I'm 24 years old, and I work as a cashier at a store called Cash Out. It was a sunny Monday, and I was getting ready for work when I received a call from one of my old friends, Trina. In a hurry, I answered the phone and greeted her with a casual "Yo."

"Hey babe, how are you? How is everything going?" She said it in the most tiresome voice.

"I'm doing good, thanks for asking," I replied with a frown on my face. I knew the reason she called was for money; she always called me for money. I nodded my head and sighed as I looked at the time. "I would love to continue talking to you, but I'm going to be late for work, so I'll call you later, ok?"

"Wait before you go. Can you lend me $20,000, please? I need to fix my computer for school and buy a new screen for my phone. I would ask my mom, but she already has a lot on her plate, and my boyfriend is busy paying for school bills. My dad is already helping me buy a new phone as well," she said as if she expected me to give it to her due to our long-standing friendship.

"I shouted in anger, 'Hah, am I a bank? No, better yet, do I have a money tree in my backyard that I didn't know about?' 'Your mom got it, but what about me?' I am living all by myself, paying bills, and buying food to put on my plate. I am struggling here, and you want me to give you 20? I gave you 15 last month to help you pay for school, but you don't see my struggles. Only your parents. At least you have parents, but I am here by myself,' I said in an ambivalent tone of voice. Then, I hung up before she could speak and left for work."

"Miss Harper, you're 45 minutes late," Manager Kim said sternly as I walked through the door. "This is the third time. If you're late again, there will be consequences."

"I'm sorry, Manager Kim," I replied quickly. "Something came up that held me back."

"Save it," he interrupted. "Go upstairs, get your things, and start cashing."

I went upstairs to grab my things and begin my work, feeling frustrated with myself for being late once again.

As Manager Kim was about to talk, "Miss Harper is time f....", a scream interrupted him. The sound came from outside the store, and soon people started rushing inside. A man instructed everyone to lock the door after they entered. The situation was confusing, and nobody knew what was happening until people started biting each other. Chaos ensued, and everything became uncontrollable.

I stood there, feeling confused and scared, not knowing what was happening. However, I was sure about one thing - I was not going to die there. So, I ran to find a safe place to hide. I wanted somewhere that was not too big but not too small either. That's when I thought of the locker room upstairs. As I was about to close the door, I heard someone shout, "Wait!" I looked up and saw a tall man with dark hair and a pale face holding a baseball bat. Manager Kim shouted at me to lock the door before the "things" came in, and I turned back to do just that. However, just as I was about to close the door, someone pulled it open. It was the man with the bat. He rushed in and locked the door behind him. Standing in front of me, he said, "Thank you, hon," in a deep voice. I stared at him, not because of his handsome face, but because he was covered in blood and holding a bat. I couldn't help but wonder, who is this man?
