Chapter 14 - Is this a Forest or a Workshop?! 2

Haaa...

I don't wanna see that Baldy again. He was insufferable.

Now, I'm hungry from all those conversations.

Let's hurry and get our IDs so we can eat in peace.

"Hello again, Mister Kevin, lil Frienna." Greet a young woman with two side buns on her head, wearing a green uniform.

Me and Frienna approach her from the hall.

"Hello to you too, Miss Anna." I wave at her.

Miss Anna smile at us from behind the counter. "How is your conversation with Lord Garrick?" Suddenly, there's a sudden hint of guilt in her voice.

"Oh, it was freakishly hard... But thank the gods we dodged the bomb." I pat Frienna's head beside me.

Miss Anna let out a relief sigh. "It's true that he can be a bit annoying at times, but it's only because of him that we are able to maintain our position as one of the Top 3 Great Guilds in Technossia. So please bear with him for a while, alright?"

I scratch the back of my head as I nod. "Yes, yes. Will do."

"Can we please have our IDs?" Frienna asked.

Since the white girl is too short for the registrar to see from her side of the counter, she begins to peep over the desk with elevated heels. "I will give your IDs in a second, alright~ Oh, by the way, how are you, lil Frienna?"

"Irritated." The girl in white stare at Miss Anna with her default gaze.

With that, Miss Anna chuckle nervously and starts to prepare our IDs in a hurry. "I'm working on it now."

Miss Anna walks away to the room behind the counter to retrieve our IDs.

I sigh as I look at the little girl. "Frienna, we can't talk to people like that."

She looks at me with her default expression. "May I know why, Master?"

So she really doesn't know anything about manners, huh?

Well, I can't really blame her. We basically thought her everything else other than manners.

"To make things simpler; we do good, we'll get good." I don't know if she understands that or not.

Frienna is taking her time to digest this bit. Even though she's a weapon, I'm sure the soul in her might give her depth for humanity.

"I don't get it, Master." She tilts her head to the left in confusion.

"You know what, never mind." You're lucky you're cute!!

"Here it is! Your very own IDs. It's an honor to serve you both." With that, Miss Anna bow in front of us with a smile.

"Thank you so much, Miss Anna. We really appreciate it!" I look at my ID in my hand with awe.

I can't believe that I'm an adventurer now. This is so touching honestly.

But let's look at Lil Frey's.

"Oh, due to some complications with our power stone, we had no choice but to give her a Grade C Mage title. Hope you can understand." Miss Anna bow down slightly in an apologetic manner.

Ahh, I see. Well, it's really not something bad if you ask me.

We want to stay as low as possible to not attract any unnecessary attentions, so this is a great way to do it!

Huzzah, Frey!!

"Oh, don't worry about it, Miss Anna. The good thing is that we are administered as adventurers now, and that's all that matters." I gently smile at her to ease her guilt.

With that, Miss Anna smiled in response.

"Ahhh!! I don't give a flying damn about you now. Leave us and never come again!" The man which I assume as their leader said firmly.

His party followed him as he stormed out of the guild with fire in his eyes.

The young man fall to his knees as he's staring at the floor soullessly.

I turn to exchange look with Frienna as she looks at me with her default expression.

"Should we help him?" I asked her.

She turn to look at the young man. "But we still have a mission to accomplish, Master."

I pat her on the head. "Ooh, that can wait, Lil Frey. Besides, we still have to wait for the Rowans to find us some information."

"If you say so, Master." Frienna nodded in response.

We both walk over to the hopeless young man.

He is too deep in his thoughts for him to listen to us approaching him.

"Hey, are you good?" I asked him.

He raise his head to look at me with his leafy green eyes.

"I'm sorry. Do I know you?" He asked us in a tired, soft voice.

"Not yet. I'm Kevin and this is Frienna." I said as I gently place my right palm on Lil Frey's head.

He is staring at us in confusion.

"I see. How can I help you?" He stand up from the floor and tirely fixing his clothes.

Frienna doesn't waste any moment. "Despite being in the worst situation, you still think about helping others."

The young man switch his gaze to the floor after the statement made by the small white girl.

"Frienna, it's not nice to say things like that." I gently stroke the top of her head.

With that, Lil Frey close her eyes, feeling guilty. "I apologize, big brother."

"It's fine, Mister Kevin. Really. The girl is right. I am indeed in the worst situation ever." The young man let out a short tired chuckle.

"Care to tell us? We'd be happy to listen to your story." I gently smile at him upon my request.

He took it.

We spent an hour or so with him telling his story about this B-rank party that he was in a few months ago.

Not to be rude, but that was a disappointing reason for kicking someone out of your party. Just because he usually carries magical artifacts in his inventory.

By the way, he is a Baggage; one of the jobs for adventurers in this world. However, since it's rare and according to some people they are boring, it is stopped being applicable to the public.

Well, I get the party that he is a bit "useless" or something, since he only carries so much of other artifacts and gears but magical.

But that is not a reason to kick him out with such a shameful act in public!

I move my eyes to look at him as we are sitting at the nearby café, drinking the beverages and cakes on the table.

"And now I am unemployed." He sigh before he continue. "I gotta find a new job as soon as possible, I guess."

"You wanna quit being an adventurer?" I asked him.

He takes a sip at the coffee in front of him. "I guess so."

"How about you join us?" I asked him again.

He chocked on his coffee. "Huh?? Join you guys?"

I nod at him. "We are new to this land, so we need someone around here to help us with it. What'ya say?" I smile at him.

He let out a short nervous laugh, while waving his hands at me. "No way! I'm weak you know. I'm just a Baggage, so I'm practically useless in combat!"

"My big brother is strong, so don't underestimate him, Mister." Lil Frey warned in her default manner as she's eating the cake in front of her.

Ever since she left the Death's Continent, she has been eating with me like a human. That's a big achievement!

"If you insist...I'll be in your care, then." He smile sincerely at his statement.

"So now, please tell me everything about your skills." I said with excitement in my voice.

"You can speak casually with me, Mister Kevin." He put his cup on the table in front of him.

"Alright, about my skill as a Baggage. As you can see from my large backpack, I can fit anything inside it. Despite its worn out appearance, it is pretty durable." He tapped on his large backpack on the ground beside him.

"So can you fit a country in it??" I asked in awe.

"Hahaha, that's a good joke, Mister Kevin. Though, I admit a country is too farfetched for any inventory provided on this land." The young man chuckled in his statement.

"Big brother, you forgot the most important thing." Lil Frey tucked my sleeve before I could react to the young man's laugh.

"Hm? What is it?"

"His name." Frienna said as she looks at me dead in the eyes.

"Oh, right! I'm sorry, but please tell us your name before she explodes!" I asked him in panic.

"Hahaha. Call me Pip. Pip Pouchkin." He laugh as he introduces his name to us.

"Pip Pouchkin." Frienna repeats the name.

"Yup! I'm the only descendant of the Pouchkins. This backpack is also the only heirloom that I have to honor my family."

"It looks dull for an heirloom." The girl in white blurt out her opinion.

"Frienna!!" I frantically hug the cute small girl and cover her mouth with my left palm.

With that, Pip just laughed at us both like he never did in our presence before.

The three of us walk back into the Ravirand Guild, heading towards the mission board.

There are lots of bounties and mission papers attached to it.

Why are we at the mission board you ask?

It's because the G'ar Land has their own currency. They use the system of credit, where you need your ID to pay for most of the stuff here.

We got into the hotel and paid the Rowans' service with gold coins was due to them being "international" businesses, so they accept gold coins for payment.

And the rest of the things that me and Frienna did after visiting the Rowans also quite limited due to not all of them accept gold coins as payment.

"There's a lot of quests here, I don't know which to pick." I place my hands at the back of my waist as I sigh.

"Let's go for the easy ones first." Pip recommended the ones at the bottom.

He looks around the mission board for quite some time.

I turn my head to look at Frienna, who's standing still while staring at the mission board without any movement.

Talk about creepiness being in a cute body!

"Aha! How about this one?" Pip slightly raise the quest paper in front of me, eye level due to him being slightly shorter than me.

"Fight a Ro-Bear and bring back its core for 250 credits each. Not bad for a grade C quest don't you think?" Pip asked me with a smile on his face.

You know, I can tell that he enjoys being an adventurer, but due to him being obsessed with magical artifacts, he couldn't fit into any party on this G'ar Land.

Probably because magical artifacts are rare and he wanted to collect them for more credits?

Anyways.

"I think that'll do." I approved on the quest.

We went to the counter for quest registration and we head on our way to the gate of the city.

This is a different gate near the woods, where most of the missions and quests take place.

"ID." Said the voice from the gate.

I'm going to start referring to it as the system.

Pip begin placing his ID at the small platform before it begin scanning through it.

"Approved. Good luck on your quest!" Said the system.

Uhm...

What's with the sudden change of tone??

Soooo fake!!

"Next. ID."

I swear if I can, I would punch the system at her face!

I place my ID at the platform as it begin scanning.

"Approved. Good luck on your quest!"

Frienna also did the same thing then we start our walk to the Ro-Bear territory.

"How do you normally assist in your former party's battles, Pip?" I ask him as we're walking through the woods.

The whole concept of forest is just different on this land.

You see, the trees are all machine-like and not to mention the wild animals that passes us are very machine-like too.

Is this natural or man-made?

"Oh, I usually provide them with daily necessities like food, clothes, wash their gears and weapons, give them healing potions, stuff like that." He said as he jump over a tall tree bark in the middle of the track.

"Basically a maid." Frienna added.

Pip just laughed in acceptance. "You could say that."

"But I guess I will be more of a use to you both since both of you are able to use Arts." He said again.

The moment Pip ended his statement, it made me and Frienna shocked in silence.

"How do you-?" As I was about to ask him, Frienna raise her right hand towards him.

"Ah! Wait a minute!" Pip said in distress.

"How do you know that?" I asked him, while standing firmly beside Lil Frey.

Not to be dramatic, but we have to stay vigilant at all times. For all that I know, he could be a spy for Baldy.

"I-" Before he could answer me, Frienna intercepts.

"Did that fussy bald man asked you to check on us?" Her hand stays firm in the air.

"Huh, what old man? You mean Lord Garrick? What's he gotta do with this?? I'm only able to tell because of this ring that has been glowing since I met you both!" He lift the ring wrapped around hs fingers in distress.

I sigh as I ease up a bit. "I see. It's okay Frienna, rest assured. I'm sorry about all that, Pip. We went through a lot, so I hope you can forgive us..." I bow down to him.

Frienna look at me and copy my action.

"Oh no no no! It's my fault for crossing the line without testing the water first. Forgive me." Pip bow down to us.

"No it's our fault for overreacting!" I bow down lower.

"No no, it's mine!" Pip bow lower than before.

"Nope, it's ours." I bow down lower than previous one.

"Don't be like that, it's my fault!" Pip bow down even lower than us now almost kissing the ground.

"How long are you two planning on bowing to each other?" Asked Frienna from beside me.

I tilt my head to the back and meet Pip in the eyes from our silly posture.

We can't help but laugh at each other.

All three of us now walk towards the Ro-Bear territory deep in the forest.

We are now hiding behind the nearest thick bush.

"Lil Frienna, take this. It will boost your magical powers." Pip tapped Frienna's shoulder gently as he hand over a small necklace to her from his backpack.

"I don't need it." Frienna blatantly refuse his offer.

"I guess so." As he was about to stash the necklace, I grab his wrist desperately.

"Then, give it to me, pleaseeee!"

"Al-alright..."

I wear it around my neck, and I can feel the magical powers in me starts to regulate.

It stayed dormant for a while now, and it feels so good to be able to move it again—at least a bit.

"Let's go!" I said it out loud, making the whole Ro-Bear community roared like crazy.

"Oops-" I've made a mistake.

There are more than 50 Ro-Bears in this territory, and all of them are charging at us with high speed.

Huhhh?? Some of them even uses a pair of engine on their back!

"What are we gonna do, Mister Kevin??" Pip fall on his back, while hugging his huge backpack.

Now he looks like his age; 21 years old.

"Don't worry, we got this! Ready Frienna?" I look at her as she mildly smiles back at me in her default expression.

While the young green haired man is cowering in fear, the little girl in white stand up with confidence.

"Othryn." She summoned a dozen beautiful white swords in the sky and immediately rained it down on the Ro-Bears.

The swords hit some of them, when the others dodged it with high speed.

"Let's go, Frey!" I jump towards the charging Ro-Bears with Frienna flying beside me.

Now, I've come into close contact with the Ro-Bears as I start to deliberately destroy the mechanimals with Nito's Battle Techniques.

Frienna on the other hand, is flying past me and cast her spell. "Omaris."

She sent slashes to the Ro-Bears, while flying right towards them.

^Hi, everybody! Teacher Nito is back for another S&S class. Today, I will be talking about Frey's spell; Omaris.

Omaris is a space manipulation spell that will send waves of slashes to the users targets.

As you all may know, Frey's own version of Dark Arts, or also known as the Obsidian Arts by Master Kevin, is specialized in space and life energy manipulation.

Her Curse of Withering is one of her spells that can manipulate the target's life energy by absorbing it to fuel her strength, leaving her target decaying.

This report already proved that Frey's Obsidian Arts are very dangerous and considered a taboo for this world.

Alright, I guess this is it for now. See you all in the next session.^

I've been blasting huge Ignis here and there, but my magical powers are about to be used up.

This is too much for me to handle right now, since Lil Frey needs to conceal her identity and I am almost spent from the limited amount of magical powers I'm allowed to use currently.

So, we need to make a new plan for now.

I look at Frienna, who's blasting her slashes at the Ro-Bear mercilessly with her mildly smile expression.

"Haiyahhh!!" A shout is heard from the back.

I turn around to look at the source of the voice for it to be Pip.

He jumped from the bush towards this field as he was throwing a couple of small rounded ceramic pots in red colour.

The moment his ceramic pots came in contact with the mechanimals, they burn in a high heat flame.

"Woahh!" I was caught by surprise.

Pip is running to my side. "Are you alright, Mister Kevin??"

"Yea, no burns." I replied to him.

"Fuhh, that's good. I thought I almost hit you there." He said as he drop his backpack on the ground.

The young man in green hair is looking around to the mechanimals before he starts rummaging around his backpack.

"Mister Kevin, are you able to use Water Arts by any chance?" Pip asked.

"Uhm, yea. Of course I can-" Before I finish my sentence, Pip hand over something to me.

"Great! Now I need you to cast a level 2 Water Arts to this device and aim it at the Ro-Bears from above."

It's a palm-sized cube with yellow and red colour on it.

Wait, he wants a level 2 spell? That means an advanced version of water magic.

Okay okay! I can do this!

"Mmh! Leave it to me!" I grab the device from Pip's hand and run to the middle of the Ro-Bears battle with Frienna.

She is slashing them all without fail. As always, she keeps her composure.

Anyways.

"Frienna! Protect Pip while I deal with this!" I shouted for her attention, and gave her order.

"Yes, big brother." As the Ro-Bears comes in contact with her, she teleported away a second too early from their robotic teeth.

With that, I jump up high to the sky and cast my spell.

"Come forth, Unda—Waterball!" I surge all of the available magical powers in me to the spell and cause the necklace to break in addition.

I hold it downwards on the Ro-Bears as it begins to shoot strikes of yellow lightning simultaneously to all of the mechanimals on the field.

Frey teleported herself in front of Pip and cast a barrier around them.

When the lightning stops, I fell to the ground in high speed due to the gravity pull, but because of Nito's contract, I'm now durable as hell~!!

I landed deftly on the ground.

"Great work, big brother." Frienna and Pip approaches me from the back.

"You did great too, Frey~" I pat her on the head a little too rough.

She then take my hand from her head to look at it.

"You burned your hand." She said, while looking at it with her version of concerned expression.

"Don't worry, I have something for that." Pip rummages into his backpack and hand over a small blue ceramic pot.

I take it from him. "Thank you, Pip."

By taking off the cork cover of the small rounded pot, and pour it on my hands. It gradually heal the burn marks.

"It's slower than normal healing potions, but it will work wonders." Pip explained.

"It's alright, Pip. Thank you so much." I smile at him.

"Now, let's collect all of these cores, shall we?" I asked.

"Yessir!" Pip excitedly run to the cores, picking it up and store it in his backpack.

From my side, Frienna gently slide her palm into mine. "Wouldn't it be faster if I just teleport them all into my item bag, Master?"

"Look at him. He is smiling so bright, even though he's just collecting the cores. For so long he finally feels included in something." I said as my thumb is caressing Frienna's hand in mine.

I turn to look at her with a smile. "Let's enjoy the moment slowly, Frey."

Frienna nods bashfully, and we walk towards Pip to help him with the core collecting.

The three of us are now walking inside the Ravirand Guild once again, heading to the counter.

"Oh, welcome back, Mister Kevin, Lil Frienna, and Mister Pip." Miss Anna greets us from the counter with a smile.

"Hi, Miss Anna. We've completed the quest." I said with an exaggerated tiredness.

"Oh really? That's amazing! Great work to you all!" Miss Anna congratulates us with a clap.

Then, Pip puts two sacks of cores on the counter tops. "Here are the cores, Miss Anna."

Miss Anna sent the cores to the back and they did some evaluations on it.

With that, Miss Anna was shocked by the amount of cores that we have collected. "Y-you have collected 178 Ro-Bears cores in half than a day??"

We all look at each other and laugh.

"T-that'll be 44500 credits for your party. Thank you for your service." Miss Anna transferred the divided amount into our IDs.

We all walk out of the guild with a satisfied look on Pip's face.

"14833 credits in just one day is amazing!!" He can't stop looking at his ID.

"Hahaha! I know right! So now where are you headed to?" I asked him with a laugh.

"Oh, can I be excused for the day, Mister Kevin? I kinda have somewhere to be..." He asked nervously.

"Sure! Suits yourself, you got that money you can do all you want!" I winked at him.

"Oh noooo, it's nothing like that-" He waved as he shook his head.

"I know I know. I was just teasing you. Let's meet up tomorrow morning. See ya!" I waved at him.

"Wait, Mister Kevin! Let me give you my number."

"Huh? What number?" I asked him.

"My phone number." He said.

I look at Frienna in confusion.

"You have phones here?" I asked him again.

"Hahaha. Of course we do." Pip laughed at my question.

"Let me just give you the number and you can call me when you buy it later." He suggested.

"Mmh." I nod in response.

"Well then, see you both tomorrow!!" The green hair boy runs off to the urban street, while waving at me and Frienna before fully running into the crowded area.

"He doesn't seem suspicious at all, Master." Frienna, who's spectating him from my side said in a monotone voice.

"That's good then." I smile as I look at her.

"Now let's go buy that phone!" I jump in the sunset before skipping to the busy street of this urban land with Frienna.
