Chapter 585 - Chapter 585: The Leaks

"Right, right... and I'm supposed to believe the Dhampir is attempting to come over and rekindle that lost light? Be real here, nobody's going to approach this area within a 500 mile radius, what makes you assume he'd..."

. . .

"Enlightenment? 'Bettering himself'? Does he seriously think a Kingdom as grand as this is willing to accept a sniveling brat's whining and winging? Please make sure he-"

BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

A Massive light, one that burned through the clay and forestside out of the Circle, immediately ceasing connection and forcing Wyvios to look over in horror at the site. In the light, his eyes were able to adjust and see two figures burning away, with only one collapsing before such damage. It shattered through the dome again with its trajectory, melting away the magic in that force, before slowly calming and shrinking back to nothingness. The charred bodies of a child and a soldier remained, but the Knight was the only one who suffered. Even when such skin was gone, the boy smiled proudly at his conquest, being quickly surrounded by others and given some treatment in case the injuries were too severe. The child merely brushed it away and have them instead focus on helping the Knight. "...Nevermind, send him in immediately." He'd demand, breaking the connection off, the small sigil that acted as his way of communicating dissipating into a letter, putting it down as he'd begin to pace back and forth.

They succeeded in the Quest. It was supposed to make them take longer. His mind wandered and got concerned immediately with how effortlessly they achieved this. He'd open a cabinet nearby to investigate on the other beasts that needed to be tended to, the history of Kabanaska at his fingertips, before a small tapping against the doorframe signaled a newcomer. Wyvios was almost immediate on dismissing the person, until her got a good look at his face: A Comedy mask, adorned by a man in a red suit and with black bull-like horns. "Well, isn't this a quaint meet-up. Here I thought you were losing your touch, 'Sun God.'" The man teased, laughing a bit as he'd saw the man back away in terror.

"D-D-Diablo!! M-m-my my! I didn't expect you to come in-"

"Relax. Relaaaax, my friend. I have already given away my name to the children. Your tongue is safe."

"....Jesta Spade." Wyvios' concerns would be met with relief as he confirmed the Ringleader's suspicions. "Oh thank Christ. A-alright, what the hell gives?! How and why did you show up?! I thought-"

"Just a small check-up, nothing more." The Demon beckoned as he'd look through the window, weaving his body around to avoid contact by the King, seeing the children already making haste to preserve the Monster inside Wyvios' castle. "They're improving! Is that a newcomer as well? To be quite honest, I'd prefer it being a squad of four than five, but I'm not one to dismiss a potential experiment in direction. Seems she's just as lively as my little 'Hero' too. Ooh! I could work with this! A Potential love interest? Perhaps I can set up a small exchange that has them be closer, until that love gets plucked away... though then again, that would come off as being somewhat predictable, no? That can't be a good way to accenuate my story..." As he mouthed away, Wyvios was quick on moving behind Jesta, seeing him be distracted already by the new information. As he did, he'd be quick to grab himself a nearby chair and attempt to swing it over the Demon. When he raised it up, however...

SHING!!!

Knife to the throat, a flinch as he'd see the quick reaction time. "Humanity truly is a fickle one... You seriously need to work on your assassination skills if you think a mere chair is going to amount to much." Frustrated, Wyvios would try to swing it down, before seeing a few quick swipes to destroy the furniture, letting it scatter into mere splinters before them. "Told you. Won't do a thing." He'd state, though such words would only anger the king further.

"WHAT DO YOU WANT!? HAD WE NOT AGREED TO NOT MEET AGAIN IF YOU DID YOUR PART!?"

"Of course, but the contract only specified 'My part', not a permanent restraint away from your eyes and ears. I already brought in some new bodies for you to keep running your little experiment, although lately I've been wondering if you were keeping your own end of the deal." The Devil's words sent a chill down the King's spine, as a contract unfurled from Jesta's hands. "From what I can see here, the wish you made is to have a kingdom with upmost adoration and care, ones that will see you as their leader, with no questioning as to what that role truly stands for. Lately, however, I've been hearing small reports regarding you wanting to ascend more than a mere king. A God, if you may. You're not thinking on doing such, are you?"

His nerves shot back up as he'd see the mask change expression to one of tragedy, neck snaps to do such a change, staring down at such holes with such intensity. "W-well, that's just a coincidence, hehe! P-project Helios is named after a Sun God, after all. Drawing comparisons to me with that is... well it's inevitable, really! Rest assured, I'm not trying to overstep my boundaries here. I know my line in the sand. I'm merely a king, not a deity."

Such an answer would linger for a moment, before the neck snaps came again, the mask changing back to its usual smile, unmoving afterwards, the grin feeling forced in comparison to the other instance. "Oh, good! For a moment I was believing you broke our little deal for a second there. So glad to be proven wrong in that small window. So, what do you suppose you are going to do now with the taming of this 'Eustace'? Heavens forbid he'd act out of line.

"H-he won't be, I can assure you. I have already made my selection with Fenrir and Jormungan. Those two can settle against the brats and that vile swordsman if he tells them about the Project. An army of monsters at my beck and call, I doubt I'd be running out of them anytime soon. A-all thanks to you, of course!" His sweat poured like a waterfall before the Faustian Devil, as he watched him take his leave from the room.

"Speaking of, I may need to do a small errand here and there regarding those beasts. Word was that they may be planning some sort of revolution after your 'Sun' did some damage. Best to wrangle those creatures that have such sentience before we'd let you advance forward. Perhaps there, my opinions can formulate easier." With that, he'd leave the door and left the King alone, forced to have him be on his knees and cup his face with his hands, Wvios' breath heavily panting away at the near-death experience he had, being in the same room as the Devil himself.
