Around 5:30 in the morning, the horizon was just beginning to lighten.
Clatter, clatter...
The group led by Ayesha advanced through the night. They rested during the day and traveled at night, having done so for several consecutive days.
"Everyone, speed up a bit! We're almost at Sedona City," Ayesha, riding her horse and yawning, called out to the people behind her. "Work hard for today, and we'll reach Sedona City by noon."
The cow-horned girl didn't plan on resting today; they would rest after arriving at Sedona City. Sleeping out in the wild meant dealing with way too many mosquitoes. One moment of carelessness and you'd be bitten all over your head.
"Cough, cough, cough..." Parkin coughed while riding his horse. His face was pale; he hadn't rested well these past few days.
"Lord Bishop, how are you doing?" A knight asked worriedly.
"I'm fine." Parkin waved his hand. He took out the flat ceramic bottle containing the 'divine medicine' from his robes and shook it a few times. Finding there was no 'divine medicine' left, he remembered that it had all been drunk by those beastkin earlier.
Damn it. Vulgar beastkin are just beastkin. If he hadn't needed them to lead the way, he absolutely wouldn't have let them touch the 'divine medicine'.
Parkin inwardly despised the beastkin. He shook his head, feeling incredibly dizzy, and his expression turned ugly. He knew he was sick.
There were no skilled witch doctors here, nor were there any Church healers, and he was out of 'divine medicine'. He felt that today he might just be going to meet the Divine Lord.
"Mr. Parkin, what's wrong?" Nancy glanced at Parkin's movements.
"N-nothing, I'm fine." Parkin shook his head. He didn't want to make a fool of himself in front of the beastkin. Right now, he represented the face of the Yadian Kingdom and the Divine Church.
"Is that so? You look a bit unwell," Nancy said faintly.
"I just haven't rested well." Parkin maintained his demeanor, even though he had long wanted to curse in his heart. If it weren't for traveling at night, he wouldn't be in this state.
"..." Nancy wasn't blind. She could see that something was wrong with Parkin, but so what?
Clatter, clatter, clatter...
The time reached eight o'clock in the morning when Obi's loud roar rang out, "Halt, time for breakfast!"
This allowed many people to breathe a sigh of relief, especially Parkin. As soon as he dismounted, he collapsed onto the ground, prompting the two knights to nervously help him up. Of the three Divine Church knights, one had an infected wound and died of illness two days ago. The remaining two had fevers for a day but managed to pull through.
As such, the two of them were extremely grateful to Parkin, thanking him for using the 'divine medicine' to save their lives. Parkin had also done a lot of sweet-talking. If Nancy and Obi hadn't been guarding against him, he really would have tricked half the people into becoming believers.
"Lord Bishop, are you feeling unwell?" A knight asked with concern.
"Cough, cough, cough... I'm fine. I have the Divine Lord's protection; I will get better," Parkin said solemnly.
"Yes," The two knights said respectfully.
Before long, the beastkin had finished cooking the wheat porridge, and everyone was given a wooden bowl.
"Time for breakfast."
Beastkin immediately distributed the wheat porridge. A bowl of watered-down wheat porridge was everyone's breakfast.
Slurp, slurp...
The beastkin immediately began gulping down the wheat porridge in large mouthfuls, even licking the bottoms of their wooden bowls clean.
"..." Parkin's expression was ugly. He looked at the watered-down wheat porridge in his wooden bowl, then looked up at the beastkin eating with great relish.
This kind of wheat porridge wouldn't even be eaten by the servants in his household; it was food meant for the believers. He hadn't expected to be eating it himself these past few days.
He glanced at Obi and Nancy. If it weren't for the two of them constantly obstructing him these past few days, making it impossible for him to contact the beastkin, he would have already tricked everyone into escorting him back to the Yadian Kingdom instead of suffering here.
"Damn it..." Parkin cursed inwardly. With trembling hands, he drank the wheat porridge, forcefully resisting the urge to vomit as he swallowed it down with difficulty.
He decided that once he reached this so-called Sedona City, he would immediately start recruiting believers and then have them escort him back to the Yadian Kingdom.
This Siacan Kingdom was simply too impoverished, far inferior to the Yadian Kingdom. It was completely not worth it to develop believers here; he would have to subsidize more than half the food in the early stages.
"Cough, cough, cough..." Parkin coughed, licked the remaining broth of the wheat porridge clean from the wooden bowl, and patted his hungry stomach.
He looked at the beastkin who were eating their second bowls of wheat porridge, but ultimately felt too embarrassed to open his mouth and ask for a second bowl.
These beastkin ate several bowls per meal. He also felt that it was best not to choose beastkin when recruiting believers, otherwise he wouldn't be able to feed them at all in the early stages.
Parkin set the wooden bowl aside, took out a thick parchment book from his robes, flipped it open, and began writing with a pen. He had a habit of taking notes, so he would have something to say when reporting back to the Archbishop.
...
On the other side, Obi, Nancy, and Ayesha were also drinking wheat porridge, observing Parkin from the corners of their eyes.
"This person harbors bad intentions and his words are unrealistic," Obi said faintly.
"A high-level scammer. He even wants to trick our people into working for him," Nancy curled her lips.
"Scammer? Bad intentions?" Ayesha was a bit confused and asked hesitantly, "What did he do? Should we drive him away? Or lock him up once we reach Sedona City?"
"Uh..." Obi and Nancy exchanged a glance, not knowing what to say.
After all, Parkin had only said some sweet-talking words and hadn't even succeeded. Targeting him like this would make them seem too petty.
"Let's just bring him to Sedona City and let Lord Lucas have a headache over him," Nancy decided. She had always felt that Lucas was also very good at sweet-talking people; it should be very interesting when the two of them meet.
