Chapter 205
I walked out and closed the door behind me. The silence of the hallway pressed in, a stark contrast to the emotional storm I'd just walked away from. My hands were shaking, and my heart hammered against my ribs. Had I really said all those things to Lilith? Had I really stood up to her like that?
She saw me taking what was mine back. Her mouth opened, probably to deliver some cutting remark, something designed to sting.
I didn't give her the chance.
I walked to her dresser and picked up the handkerchief box. Then the jewelry box. Then the scarf. Then I opened her closet and found two more items tucked away.
"What do you think you're doing?" Lilith's voice was sharp, but underneath it, I detected something new. Something that sounded almost like fear.
"Taking back what's mine." My voice was calm, steady. It was the voice I used in the ER when chaos erupted and I needed to be the eye of the storm, the one everyone relied on.
