...
The Chicago fans burst into loud, uproarious laughter.
At the commentary desk, Cole and Lawler couldn't help but chuckle at the visual. "He hit the nail on the head!" Lawler laughed. "They're just a bunch of angry complainers!"
"He better watch his mouth," JBL warned, the amusement completely absent from his voice. "You can call them whatever you want, but those 'gorillas' left him staring at the ceiling lights last week. Drew is writing a check his body can't cash right now."
Drew stood in the center of the ring, a cocky smirk on his face as the crowd continued to laugh. "You guys disrupted the whole show tonight. You jumped guys from behind. So here I am, standing right in the middle of the ring, wide open. Let's see if you have the spine to face a champion when he's actually looking at you."
The challenge hung in the air for only a few seconds.
The harsh, blaring siren of the Nexus theme music hit the sound system. The laughter in the arena died instantly, replaced by a wall of deafening, aggressive heat.
Instead of coming through the crowd, the Nexus walked out onto the main entrance stage in full force. All nine men stood shoulder to shoulder. Ryback pounded his fists together. Mason Ryan cracked his neck. Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel glared down the ramp.
Standing dead center, holding a microphone, was Wade Barrett. The Englishman looked incredibly smug, wearing a tailored suit jacket over his black Nexus shirt.
"You have a very sharp tongue, Drew," Barrett said smoothly, his voice projecting clearly over the boos. "Always relying on the cheap jokes to get a reaction from these people. But insulting us isn't going to erase what happened to you last week. And it certainly isn't going to save you tonight."
Barrett took a slow step forward, resting his hand on the railing of the stage.
"You need to be very careful with the words you choose," Barrett warned, his tone growing cold and heavy. "These men standing behind me aren't gorillas. They are hungry, starving jackals. They have been locked in the basement of this company for months, and tonight, they have finally tasted blood. They took out your idols. They took out the tag team division. And they simply cannot wait to tear you to pieces for the disrespect you are showing them."
Drew didn't flinch. In fact, his smile grew wider. He casually adjusted the United States Championship on his shoulder.
"Hungry jackals?" Drew laughed, shaking his head. "Is that supposed to scare me? Wade, the only thing you proved last week is that you got incredibly lucky. You caught me form the back while I'm facing you and after s war just two days prior to it. But tonight, I am vigilant and fresh. I am ready. And quite frankly, I'm getting really bored listening to you talk."
Drew tossed his leather jacket out of the ring, rolling his shoulders to loosen up his muscles.
"If your little jackals are so hungry," Drew yelled, his voice rising into a fierce, battle ready roar, "then why don't you march them down that ramp and step into this ring? Unless, of course, you're just a bunch of pussies who need to hold hands just to walk down the aisle!"
The crowd lost their minds at the blatant disrespect. Drew aggressively threw his microphone down onto the mat. It bounced with a loud, electronic thud. The Scottish Psychopath dropped into a fighting stance, beckoning them forward with both hands.
On the stage, Barrett's smug smile slowly faded. He looked at Drew, then looked around the arena, listening to the roaring crowd daring him to act. He let out a dry, humorless chuckle and slowly shook his head.
"Alright then," Barrett muttered, though the mic picked it up perfectly. "Teach him a lesson."
Barrett dropped his own microphone. He gestured forward, and the Nexus began their march.
They moved with terrifying coordination. Ryback and Mason Ryan took the lead, their massive frames casting long shadows on the steel ramp. Otunga, Tarver, Axel, Slater, Young, and Gabriel flanked them, with Barrett orchestrating the movement from the rear. Nine men, moving as a single, destructive unit, determined to end the career of the United States Champion.
Drew McIntyre stood his ground. He didn't back up a single inch. He clenched his heavily taped fists, his eyes locked onto Ryback, ready to take at least two or three of them down before the numbers game consumed him.
The Nexus reached the bottom of the ramp. They fanned out, preparing to surround the ring just like they had done all night long. Ryback placed his hands on the ring apron, ready to slide under the bottom rope.
But suddenly, a loud, chaotic commotion erupted from the timekeeper's area in the front row.
The fans in that section leaped out of their seats, pointing frantically. Wade Barrett stopped in his tracks, his head snapping toward the distraction.
Hopping over the barricade, moving with a fast, urgent intensity, were three men. Big E, Kofi Kingston, and Xavier Woods hit the ringside floor. The New Day wasn't skipping. They weren't smiling. There were no plastic unicorn horns, and Xavier Woods wasn't carrying a trombone. They wore serious, deadly expressions, their fists taped tight.
Before the Nexus could even process their arrival, another wave of movement caught their attention on the opposite side of the ring.
Coming through the crowd near the commentary desk were Jimmy and Jey Uso. The World Tag Team Champions looked battered from the ambush earlier in the night. Jimmy had a thick layer of white athletic tape wrapped heavily around his ribs, and Jey was favoring his bruised shoulder.
But their eyes burned with a fierce, undeniable rage. They hadn't gone to the hospital. They had stayed in the building, waiting for their chance at revenge.
The Usos and The New Day slid into the ring simultaneously.
The Chicago crowd erupted into a deafening, chaotic frenzy. The noise was absolutely physical, shaking the camera lenses.
Drew McIntyre looked over his shoulder, momentarily surprised, before a dark, knowing smile returned to his face. He didn't ask for help, but he certainly wasn't going to turn it down.
Big E stepped up to Drew's right side, aggressively pounding his massive fists together. Kofi and Woods flanked him, their eyes locked on Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel. Jimmy and Jey Uso stepped up to Drew's left, gritting their teeth through the pain, daring anyone to step onto the canvas.
Six men stood united in the center of the ring, creating a fortified wall of muscle, speed, and striking power.
At the foot of the ramp, the Nexus suddenly slammed the brakes.
Ryback took his hands off the ring apron, taking a half-step backward. Mason Ryan furrowed his brow, looking at the massive chest of Big E. The sheer, overwhelming numbers advantage they had relied on all night had just been severely compromised.
"Look at this!" Cole screamed, his voice reaching a fever pitch. "The locker room is fighting back! The New Day and The Usos have come out to even the odds!"
"It's not exactly even, Michael!" Lawler yelled back, doing the math in his head. "It's still nine against six! The Nexus still has the advantage!"
"But it's a completely different fight now!" JBL pointed out, gripping his monitor. "You aren't jumping an exhausted man from behind anymore. If the Nexus steps into that ring now, they are walking into an absolute bloodbath. Wade Barrett knows it."
Wade Barrett stood at the base of the ramp, his sharp eyes scanning the ring. He looked at the Scottish Psychopath, who was practically begging him to make a move. He looked at the fierce determination of the Usos, and the undeniable power of Big E.
The odds were still technically in his favor, but the dynamic had shifted drastically. A brawl right now would guarantee heavy casualties on his side.
Barrett slowly raised his hand, balling it into a tight fist. It was a silent command.
The members of the Nexus stopped moving. They stood frozen at ringside, staring up at the six warriors in the ring. The tension in the arena was so thick you could cut it with a knife. For a long, agonizing minute, the two factions simply stared each other down, a psychological game of chicken playing out on live television.
Finally, Barrett slowly shook his head. He smirked, tapping the side of his head with his index finger to show he was using his brain, not his ego. He took a deliberate step backward.
"Not tonight," Barrett mouthed, pointing at Drew McIntyre.
At their leader's unspoken command, the Nexus slowly began to back away from the ring apron. They didn't turn their backs on the ring. They walked backward up the steel ramp, keeping their eyes locked on the resistance waiting inside the ropes.
The Chicago crowd booed the retreat, desperately wanting to see a fight, but there was also a heavy sense of relief that the heroes had successfully held their ground.
"The Nexus is backing down!" Cole announced as Barrett led his men toward the top of the stage. "Wade Barrett realizes that a six on nine fight with these men isn't going to end well for his new army!"
"It's tactical retreat," JBL noted. "Barrett is smart. He made his point tonight. He destroyed the rest of the show. He doesn't need to risk his soldiers in a fair fight."
Inside the ring, Drew McIntyre never dropped his guard. He watched intently as the nine black shirts disappeared behind the curtain.
Beside him, Jey Uso let out a deep breath, clutching his injured ribs, while Big E nodded slowly, acknowledging the Scottish Psychopath. They weren't officially allies, but in a locker room descending into anarchy, the enemy of my enemy was a friend.
The camera pulled back, showing the six defiant superstars holding down the fort. The broadcast copyright graphic flashed across the screen, and the chaotic image faded to black.
Almost instantly, the internet ignited. The wrestling community flooded timelines and forums, dissecting the closing moments of Monday Night RAW with a feverish intensity. The visual of the Nexus standing over the ruins of the main event was striking, but fans were quick to point out the glaring differences between Wade Barrett's new army and the faction that had ruled the company just two months prior.
Under Sandro's leadership, the Undisputed System had operated with cold, calculated precision. Every beatdown, every interference, every hijacked segment had a specific, strategic purpose designed by the God King.
Sandro's systematic control was a masterclass in corporate dominance, a chess game that ultimately allowed his faction to hold every piece of male gold on the roster simultaneously, cementing them as the most decorated stable in WWE history.
The Nexus, however, was a different breed of danger. They weren't surgical. They were a blunt instrument. They attacked everyone in their path, leaving a trail of bruised bodies and shattered announce tables just to prove they could. Fans fiercely debated whether Barrett could sustain this level of unhinged aggression, or if the sheer chaos would eventually cause the group to implode.
"Wade is just trying to be a discount God King," a highly liked tweet read. "He couldn't handle being the number two guy, so he hired a bunch of rookies to carry his bags."
But a significant portion of the audience saw the genius in the pivot. "This is a brilliant way to build the roster," a popular wrestling podcaster argued. "Barrett just took seven guys who had zero kayfabe power and made them the biggest threat on the show. Let's wait and see where this goes."
The consensus settled into a cautious optimism. It was highly unlikely that all nine members of The Nexus would evolve into main event performers, but the sheer unpredictability they promised kept everyone glued to their screens.
Seven days passed in the blink of an eye, and the WWE rolled into Kansas City for the next installment of Monday Night RAW. The fans flocked into the arena, buzzing with nervous energy, eager to see if the locker room could mount a defense against the rogue faction.
The opening pyrotechnics erupted from the stage, sending sparks raining down as the camera panned across a sea of wildly waving signs.
"Welcome, everyone, to Kansas City!" Cole shouted over the deafening noise of the live audience. "We are live for another explosive edition of Monday Night RAW! I am Michael Cole, joined at ringside by Jerry 'The King' Lawler and John Bradshaw Layfield!"
"I don't think my heart has stopped racing since last week, Michael!" Lawler exclaimed. "The landscape of this brand was turned upside down! The Nexus arrived, and they left a message written in broken bodies!"
JBL shook his head, a deep scowl etched into his face. "It's a dark time for this company, King. We had peace and prosperity under the Undisputed System. Now we have a bitter Englishman and a meathead leading a gang of nobodies."
Any hopes that the roster had found a way to contain the rogue faction were dashed within the first thirty minutes of the broadcast. The Nexus proved that their strategy of total disruption was just getting started.
During a high paced mid card bout between John Morrison and R-Truth, the harsh sirens of the Nexus theme blared through the speakers. Heath Slater, Justin Gabriel, and Michael Tarver rushed the ring from the crowd, beating both competitors into the canvas before fleeing just as quickly.
Twenty minutes later, a contender's match suffered the exact same fate. Mason Ryan and David Otunga marched down the ramp, tossed the referee over the top rope, and leveled both wrestlers with a sickening display of raw power.
"They are holding this broadcast hostage!" Cole shouted as a commercial break loomed. "We can't even get through a standard wrestling match without these thugs ruining the broadcast!"
"It's a disgrace, Michael!" Lawler added, slamming his fist on the desk. "They have no respect for the rules, and no respect for the athletes trying to make a living in that ring."
JBL simply grinned, leaning back in his leather chair. "You call it a disgrace, King, I call it a brilliant hostile takeover. They are marking their territory. They are showing the locker room that nobody breathes without their permission."
But the true horror of the evening unfolded backstage. Following a women's division segment, the TitanTron flickered, cutting to a live camera feed inside the primary RAW men's locker room.
The scene was a warzone. Lockers were dented and ripped off their hinges. Wooden benches were snapped in half. Bodies of mid card talents, referees, and backstage producers were strewn across the carpet, clutching their ribs and groaning in pain. The Nexus had stormed the room in full force, overturning tables and throwing equipment through television monitors.
"Good lord, they've attacked the locker room!" Cole yelled, standing up at the desk. "This isn't just about interrupting matches anymore! The Nexus has declared war on the RAW brand!"
"Look at this carnage!" Lawler winced as the camera panned past a fallen Santino Marella. "This is criminal!"
Through the wreckage, the camera caught a glimpse of Wade Barrett, standing tall with a cruel smirk. But his celebration was cut short. From the back corner of the room, a fierce resistance mounted.
Drew McIntyre, swinging a broken steel chair, fought his way out of the corner alongside Jimmy and Jey Uso. Big E, Kofi Kingston, and Xavier Woods charged forward, using the tight quarters to their advantage. The six men fought like cornered tigers. Drew smashed the chair across the broad back of Curtis Axel. Big E drove Darren Young through a wooden changing partition.
