Chapter 60 - Chapter 60: The Famous Translucent

Three streets away, Queen Maeve received a message from Translucent. She was riding in a special car rushing towards that direction, not looking like a superhero at all.

That wasn't all; trailing behind her were several FBI vehicles.

According to Vought International's intelligence analysis, the opposing organization had a significant number of people, so this operation was being conducted in conjunction with law enforcement agencies.

Doing this not only compensated for the potential issue of criminals escaping due to a lack of superhero manpower but also further promoted the relationship between Vought International and domestic law enforcement departments. Their ambition to infiltrate the upper echelons of the federal government had never ceased.

Two armed helicopters hovered and followed in the sky, carrying both active-duty agents armed to the teeth and a Vought International film crew.

How could a joint operation to wipe out black terror be without publicity?

With Vought International's approval, they immediately scheduled a live broadcast of this lightning operation.

Everything was ready; it looked like the Freedom League was doomed.

...

...

A hidden abandoned factory.

"How come I feel like something is wrong today? Is there anyone who hasn't arrived yet?"

The man with a 'Freedom' tattoo on his neck and a punk getup sat on a stacked box. He turned his head to ask the seventy-plus members gathered below. For some reason, his heart was pounding.

He possessed psychic-side sensing abilities, high physical strength, and could briefly control others' thoughts; other members were wary of him.

"Counted them. Two are still missing."

A cat-faced man who was out of the loop replied, "Besides the boss, Frank the Fish King and Natalie the Beast Girl haven't arrived. Did we fail to notify them?"

A member mocked, "Frank went missing in Hawaii, which is why we are here. You idiot Rachim, don't you read the messages carefully?"

The cat-faced man was furious: "You dare say that again?!"

His eyes turned into yellow vertical pupils, like a provoked leopard, ready to attack at any moment.

"You can argue, but don't you dare lay a hand on anyone~"

A woman with fluffy blonde hair that seemed to writhe like it had a life of its own spoke, flicking her snake tongue: "Stormfront will be here at any moment. If she sees us making a mess of this place, someone is going to suffer."

"Alright, someone has arrived."

The punk man who started the conversation heard subtle movements outside. He pointed to the window sealed with wooden planks.

The next second.

'Crack~!'

The wooden planks shattered, and a slim, agile figure flipped in from outside.

"How is everyone?"

Beast Girl Natalie took off her hood and greeted the members indifferently: "Had a little issue just now and it took some time to handle. Sorry for keeping everyone waiting."

In terms of the quality of Freedom League members, she was considered quite polite.

Disdain flashed in the Snake Woman's eyes, but her face wore an enthusiastic smile: "A rookie who hasn't even killed anyone, what are you acting so deep for?"

Natalie looked at her, her face filled with defiance and deep wariness: "That's still better than you, a fool who kills indiscriminately. Don't you go having too much fun outside and bring some little tails back."

"Do you think I'm as brainless as you?"

The Snake Woman raised her head and flicked her tongue: "Do black people even count as people? If you're so compassionate, why did you join the Freedom League?"

Natalie remained silent.

Others who heard the Snake Woman's sarcastic remarks showed some resentment. Did they really want to join?

If it weren't for past mistakes in reality, or being coerced by other members, they wouldn't have entered this secret organization.

As the team's membership continued to increase over the years, many people became increasingly unscrupulous, which made those with a conscience feel gradually uneasy and fearful.

'When killing becomes a game, a tool for amusement, how far are these people from being lunatics?'

Natalie thought to herself, feeling even more uneasy about the organization's future. But she had been personally recruited by Stormfront when she was just a little girl who didn't know anything.

Stormfront treated her well and taught her many things and principles.

Natalie recalled the words of the woman who made her feel close on the road, feeling a bit lost. If she left this place, what could she do?

"What are you thinking about?"

Cat-faced man Rachim walked over: "Don't mind her, the Snake Woman just has a foul mouth."

"A fool whose brain has been invaded by poison, I don't care what she says."

Natalie regained her composure, stood with the cat-faced man, and waited quietly.

The gathered members were loose, vaguely divided into several small groups. However, before the leader appeared, apart from a few words of bickering, no conflict erupted.

More than half an hour later, Stormfront had yet to appear.

The punk man grew impatient, and the vague sense of discomfort in his heart made him restless.

'Bang~!'

He jumped down from the box, checked the time, and said coldly: "The leader is always punctual. Could something have gone wrong?"

"Hee hee~ What's the rush?"

The Snake Woman's venom accumulated in her oral glands; she felt uncomfortable without spitting some saliva. She giggled: "Kazari, put away that hit-or-miss sensing ability of yours. This temporarily chosen abandoned factory has no living people passing by within a few kilometers, except for wild animals. We are safe."

Stormfront valued a limited number of members, and the Snake Woman was one of them. She had arranged the location for this gathering, so she was very confident.

"It's still not right, Una. Are you sure it's safe here?"

Kazari's unease grew more pronounced; he felt something was wrong.

The Snake Woman was displeased: "At least it's safer than the dog kennel you lived in a few days ago. I could touch your dick just by turning over there!"

"..."

Others looked sideways upon hearing this, as if they had accidentally heard some gossip. After all, based on the information everyone knew, the relationship between these two couldn't be described as good.

Cat-faced man Rachim looked at Snake Woman Una, then at punk man Kazari, and quietly gave a thumbs up: "Bro, you have good taste."

"Don't talk nonsense!"

The punk man was triggered: "I just took her in for two days because I felt sorry for her!"

Just as Kazari was annoyed by the Snake Woman's loose tongue, a feeling of palpitations surged in his heart. At the same time, the rustling sound of movement came from hundreds of meters away.

At least a hundred humans were approaching, surrounding them.

With so many people, could it be the lone Stormfront?

Kazari's face changed drastically: "Damn it, we've been exposed!"

Others immediately became alert. In just over ten seconds, other members also sensed movement on the perimeter.

'Boom~!'

The semi-covered iron door was suddenly blasted open. Amidst the swirling dust, there was no one at the entrance.

The cat-faced man and Beast Girl Natalie twitched their noses, observing their surroundings, and finally fixed their eyes on a certain direction.

"The ability to turn invisible..."

Rachim subconsciously protected the Beast Girl behind him, his expression grave: "It's that damn Translucent from Vought International!"

Translucent could not only turn his body invisible, but his skin could also turn into a carbon-metamaterial harder than diamond, possessing powerful defensive capabilities while also having decent physical enhancements.

This loser character, who was negligible in Shawn's eyes, was a nightmare for many ordinary superhumans.

The moment they heard the famous name Translucent, many members in the broken warehouse became restless.

Some glared, some panicked and retreated, and some quickly looked for escape routes.

A superhuman near the window, without waiting for others to react, leaped quickly, attempting to flee the scene.

'Bang~!!'

Just as his body jumped into the air and before he could get out of the window, his whole person was hit by a huge force, flying backward like a rag doll and crashing heavily into the pile of boxes.

He lay on the ground groaning in pain, boxes collapsing all over the place.

"Hmm, where do you think I am?"

Translucent's voice rang out by the window, carrying contempt: "I received information that several of you are deserters from Vought laboratories. I advise you to stand obediently in place and not resist, otherwise, you know the consequences."

"Fuck your consequences!"

The Snake Woman opened her mouth, and purple venom sprayed out. The already mottled wall was immediately corroded into pits and bumps upon contact with the mist.

Compared to biting people with fangs, Una preferred this kind of wide-range damage because enough people died, and it was satisfying enough.

Her movements were fast, but unfortunately, she didn't spray anyone.

Unless one's hearing and vision were enhanced to a profound level, or one happened to have special sensing abilities, it was difficult to detect Translucent's movements. He knew his own abilities well and actually had his own way of not letting the enemy discover his position.

'Bang~!'

Another short man in the middle of the crowd didn't even scream; he suddenly covered his ears and fell powerlessly, with a rusty steel bar stuck there.
