Shen Mingfeng suddenly seemed genuinely happy. He started laughing, the smile reaching his brows and eyes. Jiang Meilin hadn't seen Shen Mingfeng smile so brightly in a long time; it felt like ever since he'd been with her, he'd never laughed like this again.
Her chest tightened even more, but she didn't say anything else.
Shen Mingfeng suddenly spoke, not to her, but to the servant beside him who was making tea: "Get a few more people to go to the kitchen and help Aunt Jiang cook. Make more dishes tonight. Meilin's nutrition really isn't great, I need to build her up a bit this evening."
As he spoke, he reached out and stroked Jiang Meilin's face.
His hand was icy cold, so cold it felt like a snake coiling across her face. Jiang Meilin shuddered and wanted to pull away, but she didn't have the courage. She could only endure the fear in her heart, letting him stare past her with that vacant look while his hand wandered aimlessly over her face.
