Chapter 886 - Chapter 886: Samael

Lilith was taken away by Alaric just like that.

As a primordial human with extraordinary talent, still ignorant and unformed, she would receive further education. Alaric believed that his goddesses would welcome this child.

Meanwhile, another primordial human created at the same time as her, Adam, would walk a completely different path.

Adam, along with his "rib" Eve, would become the ancestors of the newborn human race, dedicating their lives to the propagation of their bloodline.

It sounded like a lofty and noble goal, and they could even live in Eden, enjoying a life where everything was provided without effort.

However, in reality, for Adam or Eve, or rather, for most primordial humans in mythology, such a life was far from beautiful.

Because, as the first humans created in myth, their life's mission was simply to give birth! To reproduce! To reproduce endlessly!

The more offspring, the better, ideally, to quickly create an entire race.

In the process, their bloodline and power would be continuously weakened through endless reproduction.

It must be known that generally speaking, the stronger and longer-lived a being is, the lower its fertility.

Because the offspring of the strong are also strong, and the world does not permit too many such heaven-defying existences to exist.

Thus, if the strong wish to have many descendants, the price is either that each generation becomes weaker than the last, or that they sacrifice their own power.

As perfect primordial humans, whether Adam, Eve, or Lilith, they were born with physiques comparable to fantasy species, and their lifespans were likewise similar.

However, as "tools" meant to reproduce humanity, these primordial humans could hardly hope to enjoy their full lifespan.

During the process of reproduction, both of the above situations would occur, their descendants would grow weaker with each generation, while they themselves would lose power and have their lifespans drastically shortened due to excessive reproduction.

The Bible mentions only Cain, Abel, and Enoch as the descendants of Adam and Eve, but that was clearly impossible, after all, without daughters, how could humanity continue to reproduce? Unless… Eve worked even harder? But that wasn't very logical either.

Normally, it should be more efficient for there to be more individuals bearing children than those providing the seed.

The apocryphal Book of Jubilees mentions that they also had two daughters, Seth and Azura, but even that number would still be insufficient for rapid reproduction.

Only after witnessing it firsthand did Alaric understand what was truly going on.

In fact, Cain, Abel, Enoch, Seth, and Azura did indeed exist, but that did not mean there were no other children.

It was simply that among all their offspring, only these five inherited their parents' bloodline to the greatest extent, while the rest were far weaker.

In other words, the five named individuals were prototypes, while the others were mass-produced units, and mass-produced units were not worthy of names. That was essentially the situation.

In short, unlike Lilith, Adam and Eve lived out their lives in Eden like breeding livestock.

This information was not obtained by Alaric himself.

In order to avoid alerting Il, now known as Yahweh, Alaric refrained from appearing before him again.

The one who relayed the information to him was the kind-hearted angel who had helped Lilith escape Eden, Samael.

After deciding that Samael was her friend, Lilith made an agreement with her to meet once every few years, exchanging their experiences.

As an angel stationed in Eden who had never seen the outside world, the curious Samael was more than happy to learn about it from Lilith.

After learning about Adam and Eve's situation, Lilith expressed her relief more than once in front of Samael.

"I'm so glad I left that place early. I'm so glad I met Lord Alaric. Otherwise… I would have been the one living that pig-like life with that man… how terrifying."

"Why is that kind of life bad?" Samael, who had always lived in Eden, was somewhat naïve.

"All the fruits and animals in Eden are theirs to take. They lie around in that beautiful place, doing whatever they want, all day long…"

At this point, Lilith blushed slightly. "…doing those very pleasant things. What kind of life could be better than that?"

"Sleeping after eating, eating after sleeping, even if the food is delicious and the scenery is beautiful, how is that any different from pigs?"

Lilith said disdainfully. "Only after coming into the outside world did I understand that the difference between humans and beasts lies in thinking.

Humans think, they pursue wisdom, animals do not…

By allowing them to live like that, God has abandoned their human side, wanting them to endlessly reproduce like animals, hasn't He? Thankfully, that fate is no longer mine."

Lilith's repeated expressions of relief made Samael thoughtful.

"Wisdom… is it really that important?"

When Lilith returned a few years later to the place where she met Samael, what she saw was not the kind and beautiful angel with a shining halo above her head and pure, magnificent wings on her back, but a half-human, half-serpent being, surrounded by an aura of death, with pitch-black wings.

"Who… are you?"

For living beings, deathly aura, negative energy, was never something good.

Even though she herself possessed death as one of her powers, Lilith still became wary upon seeing such a being. With a casual gesture, a raging wind surged around her, forming a protective barrier against a sudden attack.

"Even you… can't recognize me anymore?"

A hoarse voice came from the half-human, half-serpent creature.

"I'm sorry… I shouldn't have appeared before you… The me now… is nothing but a fiend. I should return to where I belong…"

As she spoke, the visitor's serpent tail coiled as she turned to leave.

At that moment, Lilith finally realized the other's identity.

"You… you're Samael, aren't you!" Though she could hardly believe it, Lilith still voiced her guess aloud. "Turn around and let me see your face, you're Samael, right!?"

Hearing Lilith's words, the figure paused, then slowly turned back.

Lilith immediately dispelled the storm and hurried forward, eager to confirm her identity.

For her, aside from Alaric, who had saved her in the wilderness, the most important person in her life was Samael, who had helped her escape suffering. For her sake, Lilith didn't even care about her own safety.

Holding the other's lowered head in both hands, she brushed aside the disheveled hair that had turned from pale to pitch black.

Beneath it, the face, though somewhat pale, was unmistakably that of her dear friend, Samael.
