That one nearly got him.
He stood up, because the chair was killing his knees, and because he suddenly needed to do something with his arms. He floated across the table towards the red light with both of them open.
An arm's length away, he hit the wall.
It was the same one as before. He couldn't see it, but it was like pushing on warm glass. He pressed his palm flat against it. On the other side, the wisp drifted closer, until it was right against his hand with nothing in between except the thing that was in between.
"Not yet," Luna whispered. "I'm sorry. I don't have anything to hug you with."
"Where's your body?"
"I don't have one any more."
He let that sit. He didn't like it, so he did what he always did with things he didn't like. He put it in a box and wrote a label on it.
"Fine," he said. "Then I owe you a hug. Write it down. I never leave a debt unpaid."
The wisp made a sound that might have been a laugh.
"I'll hold you to that."
