The dwarves all know where Polut Pass is; they wouldn't flee in any other direction. But with a bit of strategic awareness, it's not hard to see that given the current situation, escaping directly towards the Ligurian Peninsula through the reshaped Gorgon Mountain Pass is the optimal solution.
The once continuous ridgeline has been flattened, and from higher ground, one can now directly look out at the distant coastline of Charldo Harbor.
From now on, Gorgon Mountain Pass might be renamed Gorgon Avenue, as the road to the Ligurian Peninsula is completely open. Climbing the mountains to Polut Pass would waste more time, but conversely, the drastic change in terrain has also rendered the previously strategic Polut Pass, the only way to the Ligurian Peninsula, strategically insignificant.
The Wolf People will likely not waste time taking a roundabout route to attack that well-defended stronghold.
