Adam tucked the journal safely inside his pocket and exited the room.

He glanced at the debris scattered across the floor and the remains of the Stone Angels he had just slain. Their shattered bodies lay motionless, their once-serene faces reduced to fragments of stone.
Adam had already devoured their souls, ensuring that there was no afterlife for them. The same held true for the High Priest's soul.
And that was what made his feelings complicated.
According to the journal, these creatures had once been nothing more than innocent children. Choristers of the Sun Temple. Children who had sung praises to the sun god. Children who had smiled alongside the High Priest.
And yet, he had killed them.
More importantly, he had devoured their souls.
