Jacob's smile remained gentle.
For a few moments, he simply stood beyond the iron bars, his crimson eyes watching Genevieve in silence.
"You're just like her, you know." He smiled. "Headstrong and beautiful."
Genevieve simply glared at him.
"Do you know why I do this?" Jacob spoke slowly.
Genevieve said nothing. She would say nothing to this foul creature. Her eyes remained fixed upon him, filled with nothing but hatred.
Jacob did not mind. His smile remained tender and gentle.
"I do it for love, my dear."
His voice was so calm, like a lullaby. As though they were discussing something beautiful.
"I simply wish to reunite with her," he added.
For the first time, something changed in his expression. The smile remained, but behind it… there was something else. Something ancient and broken.
His hand subconsciously reached toward the ruby pendant, and he brushed his fingers against the gem gently.
