"Exactly," the oldest replied. "If they wanted to destroy everything, they would already be attacking."
At that moment, one villager tripped while trying to run. The nearest creature turned its head toward the fallen person and began moving forward.
The youngest reacted immediately. "We have to stop it!"
They ran forward together.
The oldest moved to the side while the youngest stepped between the creature and the fallen villager.
The creature slowed down. Its large eyes focused on the two young beings now standing in front of it.
For a moment, no one moved.
Then the creature let out a low growl.
The youngest tightened their fists but did not step back.
"We are not here to fight if we don't have to," the oldest said quietly.
The youngest looked confused. "Then what do we do?"
The oldest pointed toward the forest behind the settlement.
"Look there."
The youngest turned their head. In the distance, smoke could be seen rising from the direction of the burning forest.
