3rd POV – Orias Gate, Command Spire
The fortress world smelled of ozone, oil, and fresh ash. Workers in grey flak jackets rushed through the massive vaulted corridors, repairing battle damage under the watchful eyes of Arbites enforcers. Above it all, banners bearing the sigil of the Flamebringer — Shawn's personal emblem — hung alongside the Aquila.
In the war room, a hololith flickered with dozens of active vox-links. Shawn stood at its center, his armor dented from the last battle, liquid Haki faintly rippling along his gauntlets like molten steel cooling on a forge.
Valen was to his right, hands folded behind his back, his gaze calm but unblinking. "The Arbites commanders have pledged their planetary detachments to the Crusade. They will be most effective in urban and pacification operations. With proper Haki training…"
"They'll hold any world we take," Shawn finished.
Integrating the Arbites
The Arbites of Orias Gate numbered nearly sixty thousand across the subsector. Normally their mandate was law enforcement and judicial enforcement, but under Shawn's command they would become a hardened suppression force — trained in Observation Haki to root out cult infiltration before it could spread.
Already, Vulkar and Basur were running drills in the lower barracks, breaking them into squads that could function alongside Custodes and Salamanders. The Arbites found it difficult at first — but seeing the towering Astartes move with such precise coordination under Shawn's orders silenced their doubts.
Imperial Navy Pledges
From the upper balconies, Shawn watched the docking bays. The three cruisers that had arrived in the battle — Indomitable Faith, Void's Halberd, and Avenger of Calis — now flew the Crusade's insignia alongside the Imperial Navy's colors. Their captains, veterans of fleet actions across the Segmentum, had pledged not just ships but also their officers and gunnery crews to Shawn's campaign.
"They understand the stakes," Valen murmured. "And they know the Imperium won't save itself."
"They'll have a place in this army," Shawn said. "Every ship, every man, every skill matters."
Recruitment of PDF Regiments
Word of Orias Gate's liberation spread like wildfire through the nearby sectors. In its wake, four planetary governors offered Shawn entire PDF regiments for the Crusade. These soldiers lacked the genetic enhancements of Astartes, but Shawn had other plans.
Training fields were already being prepared in the outer bastions — here, Basur and Tahak would teach basic Armament Haki to the most disciplined among the mortals, creating the first mortal "steel companies" able to stand against light Chaos incursions without breaking.
Small Scene – Shawn and Valen
That night, in the spire's high chamber, Shawn leaned against the balcony rail, staring out over the illuminated cityscape.
"This chain we're building," Valen said quietly, "it's more than an army. It's an idea. One the High Lords on Terra won't like."
Shawn didn't turn. "They don't have to like it. They just have to get out of the way."
Valen's lips curved faintly. "And if they don't?"
Shawn's Haki flared subtly, the railing beneath his grip creaking. "Then I burn the rot out myself."
Chaos Response – The Eye of Terror
Far from Orias Gate, deep in the Eye of Terror, the Chaos Gods stirred.
Khorne growled at the growing power of the mortal army. Nurgle saw the discipline as a pestilence to be smothered. Tzeentch watched most closely, weaving a dozen schemes to fracture the Crusade before it could grow too strong.
But it was Slaanesh who whispered first — a plan to lure Shawn's forces into overreaching, to stretch the chain so far that it would break under its own weight.
Training Montage – Custodes, Grey Knights, and Arbites
Weeks passed in Orias Gate's new role as a staging ground.
Custodes and Grey Knights: refining joint combat, merging Haki barriers with psychic null zones to crush daemonic incursions before they could manifest fully.
Arbites: learning to read subtle tells in an enemy's stance with Observation Haki, identifying cultists hidden among civilians.
PDF Steel Companies: mastering basic Armament Haki in formation fighting, learning to resist fear under the shadow of towering Astartes.
Final Scene – The Next Objective
Shawn stood before the gathered leaders — Vulkar, Tahak, Basur, Valen, Custodes Shield-Captains, Grey Knight Grand Masters, Arbites High Judges, and Navy Commodores.
"Our next target is Malachor Reach," he said, the hololith displaying a sprawling forge world under siege. "If we take it, we gain the industrial power to arm every soldier in this crusade — and the ability to repair anything the Warp throws at us."
His eyes swept the room. "We don't just hold the line. We move forward. Always forward."
