Sounds of footsteps resounded in a corridor luxurious enough to belong to a palace. But the floor was not marbled, and the corridor, though wide enough, was too metallic, and too strong of a technological feel. While that might just be a matter of different aesthetic senses stemming from a different taste or a different civilization, it was not actually the case.
Arriving at a large, tall door, the owner of the footsteps did not stop. The door opened automatically, and beyond it appeared a room, a hall, a stargazing hall.
The place should have felt empty, because it was just that large. But anyone arriving, whether intentionally or not, whether with prior knowledge or not, would instantly be attracted by the back at the far end of the hall, close to the transparent wall through which the light of the distant stars, the only light shining inside, was streaming in. And with that back, the emptiness of the hall did not matter anymore.
