That very night after Gryffindor's experienced a day of slump due to the loss of House Point, Lucifer awoke some time later, feeling something to be off. He was still drowsy, but he flung his curtains aside and he saw something unusual; a man was standing over Ron's bed, the boy yelled pathetic.
"AAAARRRGGGGHHH! NOOOOO0000!"
The man flung himself from Ron's bed and ran, Lucifer's adrenaline woke him up, he had almost forgotten setting up this trap, then he ran out of the Dormitory and chased Black down, who had repaired the broken window in Common Room, he saw a tail wagging, 'Makima, catch that dog!'
The boys came down not long after, and girls seconds after that, "What's all the noise?" A fifth year girl asked.
"Professor McGonagall told us to go to bed!" A seventh year Prefect girl was deeply annoyed.
"Excellent, are we carrying on the debate?" Fred asked when he arrived.
"Everyone back upstairs!" Percy yelled, coming through with his Head Boy badge attached to his night clothes. Lucifer looked over at Hermione; she was in a long, pink nightgown. She was averting her gaze from him.
He looked over several of the girls and saw they were staring at him. They all quickly looked away when he looked back, Lucifer was sure that it wasn't that impressive, maybe they were just gawking at him, he didn't know.
"Perce - Sirius Black!" Ron said faintly, "In our Dormitory, with a knife. Woke me up, I was scared!"
The Common Room went very still.
"Nonsense!" Percy yelled, but his voice had a slight yip to it, "You had too much to eat, Ron, had a nightmare----"
"I'm telling you---"
"Really, now that's enough!" Professor McGonagall came back in through the Portrait, wearing a tartan nightgown and hair-net, "I am scornful as much as the next that Gryffindor lost the House Cup, but this is ridiculous! Percy, I expected better of you!"
"I didn't authorize this, Professor," Percy said, puffing himself up indignantly. "I was just telling them all to go back to bed. Ron here had a nightmare---"
"IT WASN'T A NIGHTMARE!" Ron yelled, his ears turning red, "PROFESSOR, I WOKE UP AND SIRIUS BLACK WAS STANDING OVER ME, HOLDING A KNIFE!"
'Hmm... why would he be over Ron's bed? Did he just mistake the beds? No, even in the dark one can tell Harry and Ron apart. Why would Black have been over his bed?' Hermione thought to herself, feeling confused.
Professor McGonagall stared at Ron with a face that if you dare lie now, "Don't be ridiculous, Weasley, how could he have gotten through the portrait hole?"
"Ask him!" Ron yelled, pointing at Cadogan's portrait, "Ask him if he saw----"
McGonagall glared at him as she walked out to talk to Cadogan, "Did you let a man enter just a few minutes ago, Sir Cadogan?"
"Certainly, Good Lady!" The stout Knight responded proudly.
She paled instantly, couldn't believe it, at least the Fat Lady had put up a fight to her last breath, "You - You 'did? But - but what about the password?"
"He had 'em!" Cadogan said, sounding even more proud, "He had the whole week's passwords! Read them off a little piece of paper!"
Professor McGonagall managed to pull herself into the Common Room, facing the stunned crowd. Her face was as white as chalk, "Which person," she said in a shaky voice, "which abysmally 'foolish' person wrote down this week's passwords, and left them lying around!?"
There was a dead silence that hung about the room. No one dared move a muscle, except for one. It was the terrified squeaks that gave him away, but Neville Longbottom raised his hand shakily into the air.
Hermione facepalmed, she didn't quite know what to think about the current situation. But what she did know, was that it was a good thing Lucifer felt tired recently, and didn't go chasing down Sirius Black.
She had already made up her several angry responses like, "Why do you put me through things like this?!"
"Could you please stop putting yourself in danger for five minutes?!"
"Please... for me?"
"I'll try my best..." With Lucifer, at last would be muttering under his breath.
......
No one in Gryffindor Tower went back to bed that night, not with Black still being searched about in the castle. Lucifer did go back up and change into a decent T-shirt, having it in place before he came back down the stairs.
Professor McGonagall had arrived back at dawn to tell them all that Black had escaped again.

Everywhere they had gone the next day, they saw added security in the castle. Flitwick was teaching the front doors to recognize large portraits of Sirius Black. Filch was seen bustling up and down corridors, boarding up any and every tiny crack in the castle.
Sir Cadogan had been sacked and his portrait was moved back where it belonged on the Seventh Floor.
The Fat Lady was back and her portrait was expertly restored. She came back on the condition of getting extra security, which was in the form of trolls. Lucifer remembered the one Troll from 'first year,' and he hoped none of them had to come to the same fate as that one.
At breakfast that morning, Lucifer was sitting with Hermione when he heard Neville squeak from the other end of the table. He looked and saw that the round faced boy had gotten a Howler from his grandmother.
He quickly ran with it out of the Great Hall but it already went off ; his grandmother's voice was booming and telling him how much of a disgrace he was to the 'family' name.
"That poor child..." Lucifer said, turning back to his food, he was undergoing apologetic for using the boy, and decided to return his good deeds someday.
Hermione was picking at her food as she continued reading a book to reduce the visual assault of the Duel, and not get surprised.

Ron had become an instant celebrity after Sirius Black had broken in, going on regarding almost getting stabbed, then Lucifer running him down towards the Common Room.
....That got Hermione to use her prepared retorts, she had mixed opinions about it later though.
Unlike Ron, he hated this sort of attention, being cornered by gossiping girls who were frantically bouncing on the balls of their feet as they offered their pieces of parchment for Lucifer to sign.
.....Romilda Vane had taken an interest in Lucifer, as his unfortunate luck would have it, and could be seen batting her eyelashes and winking whenever she saw him in the corridors between classes.
"• •" It made Ron who became a celebrity felt like a fool.
Lucifer had to stop Hermione from charming Romilda multiple times, as she was trying to make her nose transform into a pig's.
Ron would go into story mode whenever someone would ask him what happened that night, but every time he told the story, it grew further and further away from the actual events.
"... I was asleep, and I heard this ripping noise, and I thought it was in my dream, you know? But then there was this draught... I woke up and one side of the hangings on my bed had been pulled down... I rolled over... and I saw him standing over me... like a skeleton, with loads of filthy hair... holding this great, long knife, must've been twelve inches... and he looked at me, and I looked at him, and then I yelled, and he scarpered. That's when Lucifer leapt out of his bed and took off after him..."
"Does he honestly have to keep telling that story?!" Hermione complained for the eight time today.
"Let him have it. It's the first time he's felt special in a while, and it's taking his mind off of the fight you two were having," Lucifer reminded her of the Scabbers thingy again.
"Ugh, don't remind me. Crookshanks is being so well behaved in the girls dorm... can we just get out of here? Maybe go 'fishing' with Daphne or something?"
......
Lucifer glared and leaned back, burying his long nose in the book once again. He felt embarrassed that his girlfriend felt the need to clothe him, as if he couldn't do it himself!
Was he so shabby she felt embarrassed to have him do a video call at her home? When was the last time he had been mothered? This assignment, nothing but a culmination of annoyances was tap-dancing on his last nerve. His foot drummed on the grass in 'frustration.'
His fists clenched around the book as mother of the Granger family walked back into living room, showing her face at the Mirror.
"What's that you have there, dearie?" She asked Hermione, resting her dentist's hands on a teacup.
Lucifer didn't notice anything amiss, but Daphne's and Astoria's heads automatically snapped around. Nobody interrupts the girl's study time with small talk.
"Arithmancy."
"Is that some sort of math?" Mrs. Granger asked, tilting parchment she had taken out from her daughter's cupboard towards the light.
Hermione's 'fist' curled tighter around her quill, "Yes, it is. Very complicated."
"What do you do with it?"
"Estimations, vectors, calculations on expansion and magical exertion, theorems-----"
"So it's like physics?" her mother interrupted. Lucifer's eyes glanced up with a hint of a shock. No one would dare interrupt her while she was explaining something. He saw Hermione's face. It was calm, but didn't have any of the usual vigor.
"I guess you could say that."
"Looks complicated." Her mother dropped her hold and began sorting through shopping bags. She sorted the clothes into piles on the floor, continuing to babble.
Hermione was outright glaring at the woman but she didn't notice. Daphne and Astoria exchanged scared looks. Would Granger explode on her own mother like she did the errant 'first-years?'
She was reading her book, no longer able to concentrate on configuring Arithmantic sequences.
"Oh, I saw those three girls from down the street today. You should hang out with them more, get some park views, they seem nice..."
'Oh shit', Lucifer glanced at his girlfriend who continued to read.
"You mean the three girls from down the street that made me cry every year I went to school with them?" She asked, coldly calm, "They certainly weren't 'nice' when I was ten, unless 'nice' now means 'vicious bitch'."
Daphne, Astoria, and Lucifer didn't move a muscle. They stared at Hermione, shocked that she would describe anyone like that, let alone do it in front of her mother.
"Their parents are so nice," Mrs. Granger continued, ignorant of her daughter's barb.
"I'm sure they are," Hermione said, eyes cold as she continued to look at her Arithmancy book. Daphne looked over her curly mane into Lucifer's black eyes. Even their cool boyfriend looked concerned about the Granger women's behaviors.
The conversation stilted, Astoria keenly observed the dynamics between the Granger family members. Talk never once strayed to magic or even to what Hermione had done that day. She discussed dental issues, money, and insurance, all the while bemoaning the fact that they had wrecked their expensive SUV.
In the wizarding world, Lucifer had heard the other teachers talk about an ever-increasing rift between the parents and their wizard children.
The former of the duo usually couldn't comprehend how their beloved child could have been gifted or cursed with magic while they themselves were so "normal."
The more he thought about it, the more he wondered: Had Granger's mother always been daft? Hermione should have told her mother about those girls making her cry for years before her magic had been discovered.
If there was something he could not stand, it was ignorance.
.......
It wasn't until later in the day when he and Hermione arrived back at the Common Room, they had been playing a muggle sport, Badminton, she verbally 'kicked' Hannah's arse.
And saw people hovering around the Notice Board. "Hogsmeade, this coming weekend..." Lucifer trailed off, remembering what McGonagall had told him.
"I will even write a guarantee letter for you, if she had any problem," Hermione said, her voice quiet to where only he could hear her.
"I just can't understand. Why did she have a vision, that I even nuked Honeydukes?" Lucifer was really dumbfounded, when she did tell him that after the class ended.
Hermione shook her head, but also smiled. She then went and sat at one of the tables, 'finishing' up her ealier Arithmancy and Ancient Runes while Lucifer sat beside her and finished an essay for Muggle Studies. He only did it because he had to, the class was just not what he expected or hoped for.
Hermione was about to say something, but then closed her mouth, she huffed loudly, and asked which had been pondering, "There is something actually bothering me."
It caused him to shift gears.
"What's bothering you?"
"Sirius Black, he was over Ron's bed not Harry's... doesn't that seem odd to you? Could it be he got them confused?" She offered up, but even she questioned her own suggestion.
"No, even in the dark, it's not hard to tell them apart. If Sirius Black was really after Potter... why would he have been over Weasely's bed, right?"
Lucifer tried to stir her in the direction, they had already discussed if Professor Lupin might be a werewolf, and dropped the topic entirely, since it was not a concern.
"That does raise a good point... and a valid question, why?" Hermione was stumped completely, though, and just got back to her homework, figuring this was out of students worries.

When Friday morning arrived, the day before the Hogsmeade Weekend, Lucifer and Hermione sat at the Gryffindor table eating light breakfasts, when Professor McGonagall walked up to them.
"Morningstar, the Headmaster needs to see you immediately," She said, none too quietly either.
Lucifer looked up at her, his head was pounding, he knew what it was about.
"Okay," he stood up, abandoning his food, what little there was, and followed her out of Great Hall.
Hermione sat there, she didn't know what it was about as well. "What do you think Dumbledore wants to see him for, is it Grindelwald again?" She heard Harry ask Ron.
Lucifer quietly followed his Head of House to the Headmaster's Office. At the Gargoyle, she gave the password, "Pumpkin Pasty," and it hopped aside while posing him a grin.
"Good luck," She told him and walked back to the Great Hall.
"Enter," he heard Dumbledore's voice. He walked in and saw him standing next to Fawkes, who fluttered his majestic wings in a greet.
"Trouble again, Professor?" Lucifer was giving the Headmaster a polite nod, already anticipating what the meeting was really about.
Dumbledore turned to him, with a serious look, "Let's sit at my desk, shall we?" He asked and they walked to his desk.
Lucifer sat opposite him, looking straight at his blue ocean eyes which were not twinkling at all today.
"Doing well, I imagine?"
"Yes, sir... well enough, at least."
"You are tied for the top of almost every class, save Herbology. I think that constitutes more than 'well enough," Dumbledore chuckled, still not going over the main topic.
"Longbottom got a taste for it so....yes except Herbology..."
"This letter arrived in the Morning."
The paper was placed in front of him:
I, Cornelius Fudge, Minister for Magic of the British Magical Ministry, officially recognizes that Lucifer Morningstar has no need for a Parental or Guardian figure and understands that he is fully capable of taking care of himself and his own interests.
This form and the Document attached to the back of it are in official recognition of his new status as an Adult Wizard, allowing him all the Rights and Privileges being an Adult Wizard entails.
The letter went for a little while longer, but the case was clear enough to Lucifer, "Beats me. Do you know something about this Professor? Why would the Minister grant me the adult status in this world..."
"Previously, I thought you might have done something unexpected again," Dumbledore smiled which didn't reach his face at all, "It was in right due to recent events, your help to the Ministry of Magic' for upgrades, Grindelwald's Blood Pact', Mr. Graves being on hunt... In short words, to defend yourself, and meet demands of Alchemy orders, the Britain's 'Department of Magical Law Enforcement', the ICW, and several Ministries had made this request to Cornelius for the decision to enact..."
"I see."
"...Now, you are officially recognized as an Adult in the Wizarding Community. Harry might be the 'Boy-Who-Lived', but seeing as you are the last living descendant of the most Noble Bloodline that I told him, the Minister made no hesitation in writing out this form," Dumbledore now smiled at the look of elation on his face, "The paper has been charmed so that only you, myself, and the Minister can read it, as well as anyone of your choosing. He has agreed to... my promise that he is to not tell anyone at all about your Ancestry. That's honestly more trouble than we need right now, if he told the whole Ministry Building."
"Professor, I... I don't know what to say..." Lucifer almost failed to act the part, but he composed himself, knowing it was a vague gift beforehand from Amelia Bones, she hadn't told everything, but hinted.
"Being an Adult, you have no need for a Permission Slip, or use Magic outside Hogwarts, if you've been entrusted with the 'Emancipation Process'. Be warned, though," Dumbledore became deadly serious, he wanted to convey how the matter could be easily used against, "If you do anything that demands revocation of this, it will without pause be done. Is that understood?"
"Yes, sir, I completely understand," Lucifer said as calmly as he could. Internally he was overwhelmed. He had just finally been emancipated to Adult Status in the Wizarding World.
He couldn't wait to tell Hermione about this.
"...Alright, you may leave, and enjoy Hogsmeade tomorrow, this is well deserved, if I do say so," Dumbledore said with a hint of encouragement.
Lucifer thanked him again and left.
On his way back to the Great Hall, which accordingly--- his watch, had another ten minutes for Breakfast, he realized something. The final stroke of push could only because of his so-called Ancestry that he was even allowed to do it in the first place.
He didn't like the fact it was purely because of that, but with how great the reward was, he found it hard to be concerned at that moment, would try to not have 'Merlin's Bloodline' be a key component in the future.
On his way back to the Great Hall, he saw Harry and Ron walking with a Firebolt presumably back to the Common Room. Lucifer walked inside, and seconds later he was next to Hermione, sitting down beside her.
"Hey, what did he say?" She asked eagerly.
"Well..." Lucifer tried to look disappointed, he knew she was agitated regarding his privilege of visiting Hogsmeade cancelled just like Neville. Most of the school knew his anger, and now with him running down into Common Room to chase Sirius Black, didn't help one bit either.
Lucifer knew this kind of thing plus his outbursts were completely unrelated to getting his Privilege endangered, but even the staff here was stupid.
"What? Even after my promise of keeping an eye on you---" Hermione stopped when he started to laugh.
She hit him on the arm, "You prat! What did he say?" She asked again.
Lucifer calmed himself and turned to fully face her, looking around to make sure no one was listening, "I can go to Hogsmeade but that's not all..." he got closer and whispered to her, "The Minister for Magic, Fudge emancipated me to Adult Status."
"What!?" She practically yelled.
He covered her mouth with his hand, causing her cheeks to burn, "Not so loud!" He whisper-yelled.
She mumbled against his hand, which prompted him to remove it from her mouth, "I'm sorry, but this is a big deal! Is everything else essentially the same?"
"Dumbledore didn't say otherwise, so I'm going to assume so," Lucifer said as Breakfast ended. They stood up and made their way to class. "Not am I just going to Hogsmeade like usual, but also get a permit to use magic outside Hogwarts legally..." He was unable to hide his giddiness.
"I am really happy for you!" She said excitedly, her smile didn't go unnoticed by him.

The next morning, Hermione was awake extra early, to be honest she was just tense of a slight possibility of Lucifer not being able to go with her. But now he actually was and she felt incredibly happy and excited and---
'Breathe, Hermione... breathe...No need to get overly excited or potentially make it awkward for him,' she thought to herself,
'Even though you are in love with him... and want to feel those lips on your-'-- she mentally slapped herself.
It was just hormones going wild, after being too engrossed in completing her load of homework. Even though he was spending time with her, it's just doing work not hanging out as a couple. She shouldn't be making a big deal out of it anyway.
She also didn't like the fact that Harry would be going, again, but Lucifer was right, there was no reason for her to waste her breath on them. She got dressed and went down to the Common Room to await his arrival.
That was her plan, but then she saw him sitting in one of the big poofy chairs, "You're already awake?"
Lucifer looked up at her, "Yeah, yeah I... I have been for a little while now. Maybe an hour?" He said, looking at his watch.
"But it's six o'clock, you've been up since five?" She asked him.
"Is it a crime to get excited for hanging out with my girlfriend after a long time in Hogsmeade?" he asked cheekily, too active for not a morning person like him.
"No... but still," Hermione sat down across from him and pulled out a book to read until the Great Hall was opened to serve breakfast.
xxxxxx
She looked at him for a moment longer, "So... being Emancipated, Dumbledore didn't say anything else about it? Just that you're an adult now?"
"Basically. I have the letter, or maybe a copy of it, that the Minister signed, acknowledging me as a descendant of Merlin Ambrosius, and that I live on my own and can fend for myself, and I get all the 'Rights' and 'Privileges' that come with being an Adult Wizard," Lucifer said, both of them standing up, ruffling their robes for any signs of visible dirt and decided to go to the Great Hall.
"That means you can do magic without the Ministry tracking you!" Hermione got more excited by the second.
"Well, at Lux I was able to do that anyway, an anti-tracking Barrier around it. I am not sure about it concealing your magic just yet... but I practiced a lot of spells at O.W.L. level over the summer. Well the basic Fifth Year spells found in the first thirty pages of Grade 5," Lucifer explained, "technically 'Lumos Maxima' is a Fifth year spell, and I used it in Second Year," he shrugged, "I just heard Professor Flitwick mention it once in class and I thought I'd try it out myself...."
"Really?" She was in awe and had a hard time comprehending just how gifted of a Wizard he was.
"If you ever think for whatever reason you aren't someone to be idolized by First Years, or even Adult Wizards, think again, because you are what all Wizards should strive to be. Dedication, Diligence, Kindness, Loyalty, Intelligence, Courage, Ambition; the Sorting Hat was right about you being a fit for every House."
Lucifer felt his cheeks burning under her massive praise.
"And you're probably the strongest Wizard in existence, you might even already be stronger than Dumbledore," Hermione said thoughtfully.
"You really think so?"
"I do think so. I can see you surpassing Merlin, honestly. I doubt Black would want to cross you, Lucifer, if he knew just how powerful you were," Hermione smiled as they entered the Great Hall, being the first ones there. They sat beside each other and piled on some food.
When Harry and Ron walked in, they obviously did not sit that close to them.
"Harry and Ron were curious about what Dumbledore wanted you for yesterday morning," She explained to him with a long head roll of her bushy mane, a hint of tease on the face.
"Let them wonder. I'm not happy with either of them right now, and I'm not sure if I ever will be again, you were only trying for Potter's safety," Lucifer said, glaring at both boys a moment before going back to his food.
Hermione looked at him.
"Well, Harry's in the right for being angry with me... I did try to prevent him from going to Hogsmeade, and well, you know that too, though it was confirmed to be hex and jinx free, but I was just worried," She defended her action.
"I'm not faulting you for that. I still think we should've left him to his own decision, and if he died, he died," Lucifer shrugged, not caring much.
"I don't agree with that, but he is being extremely careless about everything, isn't he?" She said.
"Too careless. Sirius Black won't hesitate to take advantage of that carelessness... assuming Potter is Black's target," he said quietly, wanted to give her a test, Lucifer had been dropping such hints lately for her to figure out.
"Right... it still doesn't make any sense, why would he be over Ron's bed instead of Harry's..." Hermione said just as quiet, "And no one would want him dead, no one on Voldemort's side at least. So why?"
Again, she just couldn't come up with a rational reason for Sirius Black to be over Ron's bed. Pretty soon it was time for Hogsmeade, Greengrass, and others had made a silent plan over the WhatsApp to let Hermione go enjoy this weekend alone. For reasons, to her it was like a consolation prize after the loss at Dueling Finals.
And even though the snow was gone, it was still around Forty Fahrenheit, which was approximately Four Celsius if Lucifer had his conversion right. They were bundled up in some warm clothing that wasn't restrictive in movement.
......
Lucifer couldn't help laughing when Ron was out of earshot.
"I wonder what Harry is going to say in the village," Hermione said, wondering if she would see him at Hogsmeade.
"Who cares?"
"Lucifer, don't be like that."
"I'm just responding to his idiotic decisions. I don't want to not be associated with him, but his current choices are making it hard right now," Lucifer explained, hoping she understood his point of view.
"That doesn't make it right, though..." Hermione trailed off.
They soon arrived at Hogsmeade, she immediately wrapped herself around his arm. "Where to first?"
"I was going to ask you the same thing," Lucifer said happily.
Hermione's affection had gone from embarrassing to endearing in a heartbeat. He loved it now when she latched herself onto his arm. The way she pushed her hair back before she let her face fall down onto him.
The way she closed her eyes and sighed contentedly.
"Earth to Lucifer."
"Sorry," Lucifer said, shaking his head. "Lost in thought. What were you saying?"
"You want to start with the Shrieking Shack? We didn't get a proper look last time."
"Of course I do. Anywhere with you is a delight."
Hermione's cheeks went pink, but she beamed up at him and together the two of them happily made their way into the town. They took the turning just inside the entrance and began the steady climb up towards Shrieking Shack.
"It's an odd feeling, isn't it?" She asked, her sound airily "The building is haunted, to the point where it got named after it. And yet I feel calm here. It's like I want to just go inside and explore."
"There's an entrance under the Whomping Willow," Lucifer replied, he had heard it inside the boy's bathroom, and then went to verify it for the sake of rumours, "It comes out towards broken door of the bathroom near Zonko's but obviously for others, you'd need to get past the Willow which is 'fifty' times easier said than done."
Hermione turned to face Lucifer, holding his hands in hers. She raised her face to look into his eyes and he stared down into hers.
"It feels weird that we're always having these moments in front of this shack. Of all the places. There are so many more romantic places in Hogsmeade, and yet here we are."
"We can head to Madam Pudifoot's tea shop if that's more interesting to you," Lucifer said, remembering the small, cramped, pink store they had went to last on their first Hogsmeade trip, through the town.
"Shut up!" Hermione chided, while a smile curled her lips. "Don't think that's either of our scenes."
"Are you not a pink and frilly kind of girl?"
"Not really my style. Not saying I wouldn't rock it, but a little bit too girly for me. Blue seems far more fitting for me," She said slyly.
"What's wrong with being girly?" Lucifer asked, eyebrows raised, curious to know which Hermione he was dealing with today.
"Brains are hotter," She reached up and grabbed Lucifer's face pulling him into a kiss.
It was a fierce kiss, with the same energy she'd had usually ----It must be the bold Hermione's day today. And it was a while before either pulled away. Then, in sync, they both did.
"Always in front of the Shack," Lucifer smirked, glancing across towards it. "What is it about it? The way the boards are nailed in? Or the way the wind ripples through the gaps?"
"Shut up!"
"Or maybe it's the way the house looks slightly crooked, as though someone tried to push it and didn't quite get it all the way."
"I will jinx you, Lucifer!"
"Oooooh I know! It must be the silence despite the fact that it's meant to be haunted. Really helps add to the atmosphere of wondering."
Hermione's arm moved and Lucifer flinched, her hand had just disappeared into her robes when she sighed and simply laughed.
