Chapter 3 - prologue

📖 Power Without Love – Duet 2

"Some choices don't break hearts… they destroy souls."

The storm outside roared like the sky itself was angry.

Rain slammed against the tall windows, thunder rolling through the darkness.

Inside the room, only a faint dim yellow light flickered from a dying bulb hanging from the ceiling.

Drip.

Drip.

Drip.

Water from her wet hair slid down her pale face.

She slowly stirred.

A weak groan left her lips as consciousness returned. Her vision blurred before slowly clearing. The cold stone floor bit into her skin.

Then she felt it.

Chains.

Heavy iron shackles wrapped around her ankles, the metal digging cruelly into her skin. When she tried to move, they rattled harshly against the floor.

Her breathing hitched.

"W-where is i m…"

Her voice died in her throat.

Suddenly—

Click.

The door opened.

Slowly.

Very slowly.

Footsteps echoed in the dark room.

Step.

Step.

Step.

Her body froze.

A tall figure emerged from the shadows.

He walked with terrifying calm, as if the storm outside bowed to him. In one hand he held a gun, the metal glinting in the dim light. His other hand rested casually inside his pocket.

Her heart stopped.

Her lips trembled.

"No…"

He stopped a few feet away from her.

Then he crouched down slowly… until he was sitting right in front of her.

Their eyes met.

Her breath shattered.

Pain.

Shock.

Unbelievable heartbreak.

Her eyes searched his face desperately, as if hoping this was a nightmare.

But it wasn't.

He looked at her with cold eyes.

Eyes that once held love.

Eyes that now held nothing but cruelty.

Her voice trembled.

"why…"

Her throat tightened, unable to say his name.

For a moment, neither spoke.

The rain outside filled the silence.

Then—Slowly.

Calmly.

He lifted the gun.

The barrel touched her forehead.

Her breath hitched.

The metal felt ice cold against her skin.

But she didn't move.

Didn't scream.

Didn't beg.

He leaned closer.

His breath brushed her ear as he whispered in a low, dangerous voice.

"Time for the punishment."

Her lashes trembled.

The gun slid down slowly…

From her forehead…...To her cheek.

Then to her neck.

Still she didn't protest.

Not a single word.

Not a single plea.

But her silence—Her silence was screaming her innocence.

He tilted his head slightly, studying her face.

Then he asked coldly,

"Any last wish wifey.....? "

His lips curled slowly.

The word cut deeper than any knife.

Her breathing broke.

Slowly… weakly… she lifted her chained hands and wrapped them around the hand holding the gun.

But instead of pushing it away…

She gently guided it down.

Until the gun rested against his stomach.

A tear slipped from her eye.

Just one.

Her voice came out broken… barely a whisper.

"I saved your life But you destroyed mine …"

Her fingers trembled on his hand.

For a moment—Just one moment—His eyes flickered.

Then… without saying anything.

He smirked.

Cruel.

Cold.

Heartless.

He stepped back a little and looked straight into her tear-filled eyes.

Without hesitation.

Without mercy.

He pulled the trigger.

BANG.

The sound echoed through the storm.

The bullet tore into his stomach.

Blood spread quickly through his shirt.

But she didn't cry.

Instead…

She smiled.

A broken.

Painful.

Devastating smile.

Slowly she leaned forward, her lips near his ear.

Her weak whisper cut through the thunder.

"Congratulations…"

A tear slid down her cheek.

"You killed our baby."

His body went completely still.

Her trembling hand slowly reached forward and rested gently on his stomach, right over the blood.

Her eyes slowly closed.

Her body rolled back against the floor.

Lifeless.

The chains rattled softly as her body went still.

For a moment—

He can't move.

Then the realisation hit her like slap.

The cruel smirk faded from his face.

His eyes dropped to her hand resting over his stomach.

Then to her pale face.

To the tear still clinging to her lashes.

A small crack in his cold expression.

His brows furrowed.

"What…?"

His breathing grew uneven.

Then the meaning of her words hit him.

Like a knife straight through his chest.

His eyes widened slightly.

The realization crashed into him.

His gaze slowly moved to her stomach.

His hand trembled.

No.

No…

His heart pounded violently as he looked back at her lifeless face.

For the first time that night—Fear appeared in his eyes.

Real fear.

His voice came out hoarse.

"What did you just say…?"

But she didn't answer.

Her head remained on floor.

Her body unmoving.

And in that silent room—For the first time—He understood.

And the realization shattered him far worse than the bullet ever could..
