Chapter 17 - Chapter 17: The Academy {The Ceremony}

-[6 Days Later; Orientation Day]-

Today's the day… I finally head to the academy. I woke up early today, and I mean early. I woke up around 5:00 in the morning, after going to sleep around 8:00 last night. I woke up, washed myself, made sure my hair was nice and fluffy, and put on my uniform.

If I may say, I think I look good in this uniform! It's slightly a bit big for me, but that is because of my small stature. There is only an hour left before the orientation ceremony begins, and I heard that the student representative of the school will give a speech.

I heard that it is a second year student who is quite handy with magic. Also, he seems to be a dual-wielding magic user. Meaning he can use two types of magic. Well, I can use them all, but that's because of my system. Thank you, Kitsu! Sir Kai!

Don't get smug with me…

I now sit on my bed, messing around with earth magic, making tiny figures with it. So far, I've made Madison and Rommel. They look pretty good, but I still need to fine-tune their features for them to be called complete.

Oh! If you're wondering how I did this, I'll tell you. By making earth magic figures, it requires me to make a block of earth magic, with measurements of around 2 inches in width, and 8 inches in height, and then shaving away at the magic that makes up the block, to the point of where the features start to appear.

I first start off with making a pose for the body, and then making a very undetailed version of the body. I then start with the arms, and legs, and other details of the human anatomy. I don't make anything down below, but I make features such as muscles, and the chest. I can make pretty good estimates on the sizes.

I then slowly make my way to the armour, or clothing, that they are wearing in this specific figure. Finally, I make any adjustments to it that are needed. I used to own character figurines, and even studied how they were made back when I was 14. I was… weird, to say the least.

And before I knew it, time flew by, and I had 30 minutes left. It's time to make my way to the academy.

I put up my hair in a ponytail, and created the mana bandages to cover up my eye. I checked myself in the mirror to see if my ponytail was off centre, and it was fine. I then checked to see if I looked a bit weird, but I thought I looked fine, so I headed my way towards the door, and left my room. But not before putting on my robe. I'll store it when I get to the academy.

Rommel was awake, and he was already waiting in the main room for me. He then said, "Pearl, I hope you have a great first day. Remember, the people in the academy might not be friendly to you since you are a beastchild, but don't let it get to you. You're strong, after all. Stronger than ten of me!"

He then walked over to me, and gave me a hug. He seemed genuinely happy to see me off.

I then said, "Could you at least do this without touching my tail?" He backed off of me, and said, "Sorry, I couldn't help myself…" I then told him, "It's fine, it's just a little sensitive. Oh! Before I forget, here, take this."

I then handed him a gold coin and said, "This is what I believe I owe you for everything so far. I know it might be a bit much, but take it." He looked a bit shocked, but he accepted it graciously. I then walked out the door, and he waved me off. He really would be a great father.

I walked through the streets, and I saw other kids from the area heading to the academy, as well. They were all in uniform. In total, I saw around 15 males, and 13 females, all within the age range of 12 to 15. Oh, yeah. I forgot to say this… Maybe? But the main age that people start at in the academy is the age of 12, meaning I might be the youngest student there.

Anyhow, that just means that… What would it mean? I don't know.

-[The Academy's Gates]-

As I got closer to the academy, I could see the large building that housed the main classes. The school grounds took up a decent amount of the city, having multiple buildings and towers for the various classes that are held here.

I now stand in front of the school's gate, looking at the entire building… Well, buildings. There are multiple, from what I can see from here.

"Time to head inside."

Making sure nobody saw me, I quickly stored my robe in my inventory, and headed through the gates. Other students were already heading into a larger building, presumably the auditorium. Kitsu, is that where I should go?

<>

Okay, thank you, Kitsu. I then turned and headed in that direction. As I entered it, I saw many people lining up in designated areas of the floor. I looked around, and saw the four signs for the first years, second years, third years, and fourth year students. I made my way to the first year section, and found the designated spot with my name on it.

As time went by, more and more students appeared, and made their way to their own spots. Not too long after I got there, a boy was standing next to me. He seemed to be a half-elf, having shorter elf ears and a more human-like appearance. Then, on the other side of me, was a girl, a cat type beastchild, with dark skin. They were both much taller than me, presumably because they are two, or so, years older than I.

The ceremony is going to start in about 7 minutes, I might as well try and talk to them while I have a chance.

I turned over to the cat beastchild, and said, "Hello, it is a pleasure to make your acquaintance. My name is Pearl, what is yours?" She looked at me, then the bandages over my eye, and then back to me. She then said, "My name is Alexis. It's nice to meet you, Pearl."

She seems to be quite friendly. She then asked me, "Are you injured?" She must be asking about my eye.

I then told her, "It got messed up during an altercation with someone. It's now blinded, and I have to keep it bandaged to try and prevent infections." It technically would be true… if I didn't make it a mana eye. She then said, "I'm sorry that happened to you." I shrugged and said, "It's fine. I only need one, anyway."

I then said, "Well, let's try to get along, shall we? We'll be classmates, after all!" I put my hand out for a handshake, she took it, and excitedly exclaimed, "Yeah!"

I then turned to the elf boy, and said, "Greetings, my name is Pearl. May I ask yours?" He looked at me, and became flustered. Is he shy? How cute…

He then said, "My… My name is Saito…" He couldn't maintain eye contact the entire time, how cute. I then put my hand out, and he didn't take it. I then pulled it back, and said, "I get it, you're nervous? The first day always makes you nervous, even if you're an adult."

He then had a slight smile, and said, "Y-Yeah. It's nice to meet you too…" His ears started to twitch, is this what happens when elves get flustered? I kind of want to touch them…

"You're pretty cute when you're like this…"

I accidentally let my words slip out of my mouth, and I turned red immediately realising what I had just said. He stared at me in disbelief, and then turned away with his face completely beet red. We both just stood there, completely silent for a few minutes. He snuck a few glances here and then, and so did I.

He finally broke the silence by saying, "I-I like girls, n-not boys…" I then chuckled, and said, "I am a girl. I just like wearing the male uniform better. It covers more, don't you think?" He shyly smiled, then mumbled something I didn't hear due to the amount of people nearby who were talking to one another.

{Heya! What Saito had said was, "I think you look cute with it on…"}

*click* *shwoom*

The lights went dim, and an older man, maybe around the age of 60, walked up onto the stage in the front of everyone. Everyone fell silent, and all attention shifted to him.

The older man then said, "Welcome, students! New and old, welcome to the Ryubia Academy! I am your Principle, Geno Horius! Here, you will learn how to use magic, learn how to do close-quarters combat, and how to use a weapon of interest. We here at the Ryubia Academy will help you to become wonderful adventurers, scholars, and more!"

His voice boomed throughout the auditorium, even without anything like a microphone and speakers.

He then said, "Now, please welcome the second year student, your student representative, Derek Hasten!"

As he said that, a boy, maybe around 14, with brown… Wait! It's that douchebag that talked to me on my way to Mr. Jack's place! He's the student representative?!

Derek then started a speech he had prepared. He said, "Good morning to everyone here at the academy. Whether you are a new student, or one returning for another year! You will have many challenges and troubles here at the academy, but the instructors are here to help you along the way! May each and everyone of you find what you want to do for a career here, and may you all prosper! Here's to another year at this wonderful academy!"

After Derek finished his speech, applause roared from the second, third, and fourth year students, with the first year students following in moderation.

The Principle then stepped back up and announced, "Alright, everyone! Now, if you please look to your right, there are 4 stations for each of you to find your class schedules. Today will be enrollment day; the day you all will select classes and courses to take! We have things ranging from close combat fighting, to swordsmanship, to the study of Magic History! Take care of finding your interests! The first day of the new term will start in 3 days! You have until tomorrow to select classes. Have a great morning, students!"

We applauded the Principle one last time, and each of the classes made their respective ways towards their stations. At the stations, we all picked up the sheets of paper that contained the available classes for each year.

I read it over and decided which classes I was going to take.

"Yeah, these will go perfectly!"
