On the other hand, it was because he needed some time to properly reflect. Based on the pattern he was seeing, it seemed like the book was suggesting that he was displaying some of the common traits of someone who suppressed their emotions - specifically, a lot of suppressed anger.
Suppression was different from repression in that it was an active choice rather than a subconscious one, and it had a few differences in how it came about, but some key traits were the same regardless of whether they were suppressed or repressed.
Since Nero had not locked away his memories or forgotten about them, and since he did not live in constant denial, his situation did not count as repression.
