Chapter 233 - Guilt

"My sister would like to commune with you mother." Kaye, The Righteous

Not being to follow a schedule normally makes it so that I forget what I wrote beforehand. This leads to continuity issues. There was one in the 2 in 1 chapter I uploaded before where Viktor comes out of his shell but the next chapter doesn't continue from there. I fixed it.... but yeah I would really appreciate it if you guys can point them out so I can fix them.

Now good news, I got the internship approved by the university and am just waiting on them to sign. So I am mentally relieved. Another good news is that from today there is nearly 10-12 days of holidays so yeah.... I'll update a lot more. And even try to get multiple chapters of the other fic which I've just neglected for the past month.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The shield shimmered as it slowly grew transparent and then eventually faded away.

"Curious." Viktor's voice echoed, "A metal shield but all of this is futile. Everything is futile in front of evolution."

CRAAAAACKK

As his words echoed across the battlefield, the cocoon he had been encased in began to crack.

The cracks spread throughout the entire sphere and then it broke into particles that dissipated in an instant, revealing a new Viktor.

His face split down the middle giving way to a new face, one that was a crude imitation of a human face. His body floated in the sky, now fully metal, gold accents spread across his body. A halo or arcane sigils formed behind his head, glowing, lighting him up like a holy being. From behind his back, a claw rose into the sky, it spun around for a moment and then closed completely, focusing on the dome. He looked at his hands and after a second of contemplation, a staff began to form in front of him. The top of which spun upward encasing an arcane orb that shimmered with light.

"This is evolution." He spoke, his voice detached, "This is eventuality. Accept it yourselves."

DIE!

BOOOM

A burst of flames erupted from Viktor's body fully covering him. Tibbers looked at him from the countless amount of puppets he was buried under.

The flames burned away until slowly, they crawled to a lick that faded away into the wind.

"These fires cannot harm me." Viktor spoke as if explaining the truth of the world to a child, "I have evolved past it. I have evolved past death." His eyes landed on the dome, "You can too. This pitiable struggle will not last long. You will be thankful once you experience evolution."

hearing his words within the dome, Jayce clenched his fists, his nails digging into his palms as they began to draw blood.

"Open the dome."

Rell looked at him.

"Do it." He said, determination flooding his eyes, "Your plan is the only thing keeping us from dying. There is only one thing that can make his feel guilt. I promised myself to never speak about it but...." He looked at the dome, "I have to now."

Mel looked at him, her own fists clenched as she put together what Jayce was talking about.

She knew it. She understood it. Jayce had gained everything from Hextech.

Wealth. Fame. Power.

But Viktor?

He lost more than he gained.

Jayce wanted to use that loss against him. It hurt to even think of it. She looked at Jayce and his determination was clear.

What he was going to do wasn't just going to affect Viktor but it would affect him. She had done something similar before. Saying something extremely hurtful to someone. But it was always done in a momentary lapse of judgement. An act done instinctually out of anger or fear. But never intentionally. The relationships that had faded away because of that were something that would never return.

But in front of this.... they wouldn't matter.

To Jayce..... Viktor was family. A brother. Doing this was the same as ending that connection himself. Breaking one of the most important relationships in his life.

Rell sighed, "I hope you succeed." She pulled back on her magic as the dome slowly began to recede from the top revealing the group.

Daani's magic responded and created clones of Briar and Sydell while casting an illusion that covered up the hole behind them.

"I see my words have gotten to you..." Viktor spoke, "But you do not seem to be the kind to give up easily. You must have some kind of alternative plan. What would that be?"

BOOOM

Another burst of flames erupted from Viktor's body as Tibbers shook another bunch of puppets off his body.

"Viktor!" Jayce yelled as he placed himself in front of everyone, "This isn't right..... this isn't what we wanted to create. You have twisted it into..... into this...."

Viktor looked almost bored, "Is this your plan?" He cut him off, "To talk me out of this?" His body floated toward them, "There is nothing to talk about. And you will understand now."

He reached his hand forward to touch Jayce's forehead.

"WHAT ABOUT SKYE?!" Jayce yelled.

The movement stopped.

"What would she think of all this?" Jayce asked, "Did she die for this? For you to take away the capacity of thought from every living thing?"

"She approves." Viktor answered as he looked into Jayce's desperate eyes.

Jayce stared back, "Does she? Does she see everything you are doing? Everything you have done? The lives you have taken?"

"I have not taken any lives." Viktor replied.

Jayce shook his head, "You took their thoughts..... that is the same. She would think the same. Your actions resulted in her death. And instead of stopping... you are continuing to do the same. How many more have to die Viktor?"

Viktor blinked as his sight changed.

"I support you Viktor. This is necessary." Her voice encouraged him.

He looked to his right where Skye had always stood.

But instead of coming face to face with Skye, all there was a dark void. And within the void were eyes. Hundreds of thousands of eyes, all blinking randomly as they rapidly shifted.

"What.....?" He muttered as for the first time since the explosion at the council, he began to actively think about what he was doing.

And with it came guilt. Overwhelming guilt.

All the souls connected to him felt the same guilt.

"Shame..." Skye's voice spoke, "This almost worked. Witnessing our true form broke him out of our control." A deep sigh echoed through the void, "What was controlled once can be controlled again."

The guilt disappeared just as fast as it came as Viktor returned to his previous state.

"You have failed Jayce." Viktor spoke, "Skye wants this as well. And soon..... you will too. Don't fear this evolution. Embrace it." His hand inched toward Jayce.

BWOOOOOOSH

A burst of flames erupted from between the two and knocked Viktor back. He slid across the air and came to a stop, taking sight of what stood in front of him.

EVOLUTION DOES NOT ESCAPE DEATH!

The bear that stood in front of him, its seams began to tear. The body containing him tore apart as his True Form burst out.

TYBAULK, One of the Ten.

The earth shook as flames enveloped it.

Endless fire spilled forth as it formed a horned creature standing on four legs. Its size multiple times larger than its previous state.

And above all, the that it radiated toward him. It was a whole different level compared to before. As if the entire air around him was burning.

"That is its true form?" Mel whispered.

Annie nodded, "Tybaulk. One of strongest demons ever seen."

The rest of them watched on in awe as the fire spread around them but it did not affect them in the least. It just calmly coated them.

"The fire won't burn anything he doesn't want to burn." Annie said as she watched Isha try to pat away the fires, "Don't worry about being burnt."

"I am above fire." Viktor calmly stated as the puppets began to rush toward the creature.

ARE YOU?

The puppets leapt into the fire and then began to melt into metallic puddles.

"I am."

The puppets reformed.

Tybaulk roared.

ARE YOU?

The reformed puppets leapt but then fell to the ground as if their strings were cut.

"Curious." Viktor commented as the puppets refused to respond to his control.

NOW COME AND FACE DEATH!

"For a magnificent beast of magic..... you are quite primitive aren't you?" Viktor spoke as he observed the creature in front of him, "Maybe the cost of power is that primitive mind...."

Tybaulk leapt at him, his jaws closing around Viktor.

-x-

Her claws scraping against the dirt stopped as she stared downward.

"Why did you stop?" Sydell asked as he continued pushing the dirt aside, making more room for Briar to continue.

But she didn't reply. Instead she stared straight at the ground.

Sydell looked at her and then at the ground, "Hey? Hey!" He reached out and grabbed her shoulder and spun her around. Briar's head whipped around till she made eye contact with him.

"What? Why'd you stop?" Sydell asked.

"Daddy and Uncle Caalyx are coming up." She answered as she looked back down at the ground, "And they aren't alone."

Sydell's eyes widened as he too turned his attention to the ground. The rumbling..... That's why the ground had been shaking all this while. Not because of what was going on up here but because of the battle underground. He fumbled for a second before closing his eyes.

And he saw his father being pummeled into the ground.

Or rather pummeled into the sky.

And then it clicked.

"He's coming to us."

Briar looked at him and then looked up the hole, "Is daddy fighting the other one?"

"Yes."

"We need to get out of here." Briar stated, "Then him and Tibbers.... they can fight the rest."

"We can't leave him!" Sydell shouted.

Briar looked him in the eye and spoke seriously, "You can't help him either. The best we can do is run. As long as we are far away.... he will win."

She then raced up the hole and out.

"We have to leave." She said as the eyes turned to her.

"What about the plan?" Vi asked.

"The plan won't work." She said as she began grabbing and physically moving as many people as she could.

Caitlin looked at her in confusion, "It won't work?"

"True Ice won't work against him?" Daisy asked as she let herself be dragged.

Briar shrugged, "It might. It might. But that's not it. Daddy is coming here and he is bringing a Darkin up with him. We need to go now."

"Then we can fight with him." Faye said, "We can win."

"NO!" Briar pleaded, "Darkin need blood. We are the only ones with blood nearby. It will come after us first. The further away we are.... the easier it is for him to fight and with Tibbers with him. He is not going to lose."

"We need to start running then." Annie interrupted, "As long as our safety is a concern..... daddy won't be able to fight properly."

Sydell crawled out the hole, his eyes still closed, "We don't have time then. They are coming up really quick." He looked at the group and then to Rell, "The metal.... use it to move us across the battlefield." He pointed toward the entrance hidden behind the rocks, "Right there. We should be close enough to make it out if we can just get there."

Rell looked at where he was pointing and then to him, "Fine. I'll get us there."

"You have enough magic?" Daani asked.

Rell let her magic strain against the metal as it came closer around them, the metal groaned and creaked as it followed her command.

"ARGHHHHH!" She yelled into the metal as she forced all her magic to obey her. The sigils carved onto her body burned as the group was launched into the air

PHHHHEWWW

As they approached the rocks on the far end...

The earth exploded.
