Chapter 1: Rebirth

Pain.

It was the first thing George Quinton felt when consciousness returned.

A sharp ache pulsed through his head, as if countless needles were piercing his skull from every direction. His brows furrowed instinctively as he struggled to open his eyes.

Bright sunlight streamed through a nearby window.

The unfamiliar ceiling above him came into view.

For several seconds, George simply stared upward.

His mind was blank.

Confused.

Disoriented.

Then the memories of his final moments surged back.

A busy street.

A green traffic light.

The sound of car horns.

Blinding headlights.

A truck moving far too fast.

And then...

Darkness.

Complete darkness.

George abruptly sat upright.

"Huh?"

His breathing became rapid.

He lowered his head and looked at his hands.

They were not his hands.

At least, not the hands he remembered.

The skin was smoother.

The fingers were slimmer.

Even the body felt younger.

Before George could make sense of the situation, a wave of memories suddenly flooded his mind.

"Argh!"

He grabbed his head as countless images appeared.

A different childhood.

A different family.

Different schools.

Different friends.

An entirely different life.

The pain lasted nearly a minute before gradually fading.

When it was finally over, George remained seated on the bed, breathing heavily.

His eyes were filled with disbelief.

"I... reincarnated?"

The words sounded absurd.

Yet there was no other explanation.

The memories inside his head clearly belonged to another person.

Or more specifically...

Another version of George Quinton.

A young man who had lived on a planet known as Azure Planet.

Slowly, George stood up and walked toward a nearby mirror.

The reflection staring back at him appeared to be around eighteen years old.

Black hair.

Dark eyes.

A slightly handsome face.

Nothing particularly extraordinary.

Yet it was undeniably not the body he had possessed before his death.

George stared at the reflection for several moments before letting out a long breath.

He had read enough novels during his previous life to understand what had happened.

He had died.

And somehow...

He had been given a second chance.

A faint smile appeared on his face.

Many people feared death.

George was no exception.

The realization that he was alive again felt surreal.

Whatever force had brought him here, he couldn't exactly complain.

After all...

Being alive was better than being dead.

A lot better.

Taking another deep breath, George began organizing the memories he had inherited.

The world he now lived in was called Azure Planet.

At first glance, it seemed remarkably similar to Earth.

Cars existed.

Televisions existed.

Smartphones existed.

The internet existed.

Schools, businesses, governments, and modern society all existed.

However...

There was one massive difference.

A difference that had shaped the entire history of the planet.

The Hidden Realm.

George's expression became serious as he recalled information from his memories.

Thousands of years ago, mysterious dimensional gates had appeared across Azure Planet.

Through these gates, humanity discovered another world.

A vast and seemingly endless world known as the Hidden Realm.

The Hidden Realm contained unimaginable resources.

Rare metals.

Ancient ruins.

Magical treasures.

Powerful creatures.

Knowledge beyond human understanding.

Human civilization had rapidly advanced thanks to discoveries originating from the Hidden Realm.

Over time, humanity learned an even more important truth.

Individuals could become Lords within the Hidden Realm.

And those Lords possessed the potential to gain tremendous power.

Some became rulers of vast territories.

Some commanded massive armies.

Some acquired wealth beyond imagination.

The strongest Lords became legends.

Their names were known across the entire planet.

Many governments and corporations were founded by powerful Lords.

Some nations even owed their existence to them.

As a result, becoming a Lord had become the ultimate dream of countless people.

Every year, young men and women who reached the age of eighteen would participate in a special ceremony.

The Lord Awakening Ceremony.

If chosen, they would gain the opportunity to enter the Hidden Realm and establish their own territory.

The weak could become strong.

The poor could become wealthy.

The ordinary could become extraordinary.

Of course...

Not everyone succeeded.

Many Lords died.

Many failed.

The Hidden Realm was a land of opportunities.

But it was also a land of danger.

George continued sorting through the memories.

Then suddenly, his eyes widened.

Tomorrow.

The awakening ceremony was tomorrow.

A strange mixture of excitement and nervousness appeared within him.

His previous life had been painfully ordinary.

He had worked an average job.

Earned an average salary.

Lived an average life.

There was nothing wrong with that.

But if he were being honest...

He had often dreamed of something more.

Something exciting.

Something meaningful.

And now?

He had somehow been given another chance.

A chance to step into a world filled with possibilities.

George chuckled softly.

Life certainly worked in mysterious ways.

A knock sounded on the bedroom door.

"George?"

A warm female voice came from outside.

"Are you awake?"

George immediately recognized the voice.

His mother.

Or rather, the mother of this body's original owner.

Although the situation still felt somewhat strange, the inherited memories helped him respond naturally.

"Yeah, I'm awake."

"Breakfast is ready."

"I'll be down in a minute."

"Don't take too long."

George smiled.

"Got it."

After hearing footsteps move away, he entered the bathroom and washed his face.

The cool water helped clear his thoughts.

A few minutes later, he headed downstairs.

The smell of food greeted him immediately.

His stomach growled.

Apparently, reincarnation didn't eliminate hunger.

The dining room was simple but comfortable.

His father sat at the table reading news from a tablet.

His mother was placing food onto plates.

When she noticed him, she smiled warmly.

"Good morning."

"Morning."

His father glanced up.

"Morning, son."

George sat down.

The atmosphere felt surprisingly natural.

Perhaps it was because of the inherited memories.

Or perhaps because these people genuinely cared about him.

Either way, he found himself relaxing.

Breakfast began.

For several minutes, casual conversation filled the room.

Then his mother suddenly asked a question.

"Are you nervous about tomorrow?"

George laughed.

"A little."

His father snorted.

"A little?"

"Everyone is nervous before the awakening ceremony."

George shrugged.

"Fair enough."

His mother smiled.

"Just do your best."

His father nodded.

"Your mother is right."

Then his expression became slightly more serious.

"Do you know what the most important thing is for a Lord?"

George thought for a moment.

"A strong talent?"

His father shook his head.

"No."

"A powerful army?"

"No."

"A wealthy territory?"

"Also no."

George raised an eyebrow.

"Then what?"

His father leaned back slightly.

"Patience."

George blinked.

"Patience?"

His father nodded.

"The Hidden Realm is filled with opportunities."

"It's also filled with dangers."

"Many young Lords receive decent talents and immediately think they're invincible."

"They expand recklessly."

"They provoke stronger enemies."

"They make foolish decisions."

"And then they die."

The room became quiet.

George listened carefully.

His father continued.

"People always talk about the strongest Lords."

"They talk about their achievements."

"Their armies."

"Their territories."

"What they rarely discuss is how long those Lords survived."

His father smiled faintly.

"The greatest Lords aren't always the most talented."

"Sometimes they're simply the ones who endured long enough to become great."

George considered those words.

They made sense.

In any competitive environment, survival was often the foundation of success.

Dead geniuses achieved very little.

His father pointed at him.

"If you awaken tomorrow, remember that."

"Don't rush."

"Don't become arrogant."

"Focus on surviving."

George nodded.

"I'll remember."

His mother smiled.

"Good."

The conversation soon shifted to lighter topics.

Yet George found himself thinking about his father's advice.

Patience.

It sounded simple.

But simple advice was often the most valuable.

After breakfast, George returned to his room.

The remainder of the day passed relatively peacefully.

He spent time reviewing information about the Hidden Realm.

The inherited memories provided plenty of knowledge, but he wanted to organize everything clearly.

By evening, he had a basic understanding of how things worked.

Every Lord received:

A starting territory.

A Lord Core.

A unique talent.

Initial resources.

From there, everything depended on their choices.

Some focused on military development.

Others focused on economics.

Others pursued exploration.

There was no single correct path.

The Hidden Realm rewarded creativity.

That was part of what made it so fascinating.

As night fell, George stood beside his window.

The city outside was beautiful.

Countless lights illuminated the skyline.

Flying vehicles moved between towering skyscrapers.

Massive holographic advertisements decorated nearby buildings.

The world felt both familiar and foreign.

A modern civilization built upon the foundation of another realm.

Tomorrow, he would stand at the threshold of that realm himself.

A strange feeling settled inside him.

Anticipation.

Excitement.

Hope.

For the first time in a long while, he genuinely looked forward to the future.

The future no longer felt predetermined.

It felt open.

Limitless.

George looked up toward the stars.

Somewhere beyond those stars existed countless possibilities.

Kingdoms waiting to be built.

Adventures waiting to be experienced.

Challenges waiting to be overcome.

Whether he awakened a powerful talent or an ordinary one, he intended to give everything he had.

After all...

This was his second life.

And he had no intention of wasting it.

Unbeknownst to George, a faint golden light suddenly flickered deep within his soul.

It lasted only an instant.

So brief that even if he had been looking inward, he would have missed it.

The golden light pulsed once.

Then again.

As if responding to his determination.

As if recognizing its master.

And then silence returned.

Nothing seemed different.

Nothing seemed unusual.

Yet somewhere beyond the understanding of mortals, an ancient power had begun to awaken.

A power that would one day shake the foundations of the Hidden Realm itself.

But for now...

George knew nothing about that.

He simply stared at the stars and waited for tomorrow.

The day that would change everything.

The day his journey would truly begin.
