The sun was climbing higher over Pallet Town, bathing the familiar dirt paths and green fields in warm golden light. Ash and the group had just left Professor Oak's lab after accepting the request to retrieve the mysterious GS Ball from Professor Ivy on Valencia Island. The mood was light and excited bags were packed, Pokémon were eager, and the promise of a short vacation in the Orange Archipelago hung in the air like a sweet promise.
Ash walked at the front, his steps light without any form of grand anticipation.
Misty walked on his left, arm looped through his, already chatting about which islands she wanted to visit first.
Sabrina stayed on his right, quietly holding his hand, a soft smile playing on her lips.
Daisy walked slightly behind them, still blushing every time she caught Ash's eye remembering their first wild night and her dirty talks with him, while Giselle trailed at the very back in her maid outfit, looking completely overwhelmed and trying to process the sheer absurdity of her new reality.
They were just about to turn toward the main road leading out of town when Brock's Pokégear suddenly rang.
The cheerful tune cut through the morning air. Brock pulled the device from his pocket, glanced at the screen, and his expression instantly changed a mix of surprise and nervousness flashed across his face.
"It's my dad," he said quietly.
The group stopped walking. Everyone turned to watch as Brock answered the call, stepping a few paces away for some privacy. His voice was low at first, then grew more serious as the conversation continued. The others waited patiently, exchanging curious glances.
After a couple of minutes, Brock hung up. He stood there for a moment, staring at the Pokégear in his hand, before slowly turning back to the group. His usual cheerful energy was gone, replaced by a melancholic look that made his shoulders slump slightly.
"Guys…" he began, voice thick with emotion. "My dad just called. He arranged for me to meet Lucy in Fuchsia City. I… I think I need to go. I can't keep putting this off anymore."
A heavy silence fell over the group.
Ash was the first to react. He stepped forward and placed a firm, reassuring hand on Brock's shoulder, looking him straight in the eyes with a warm, understanding smile.
"Go, Brock," Ash said softly but sincerely. "You've been with me through everything from the very beginning of this journey. You've been my rock, my best friend, my brother. It's time for you to chase your own happiness now. We'll be fine. I promise."
Brock's eyes glistened. He tried to smile, but it came out a little wobbly.
Misty was next. She didn't say anything at first she just threw her arms around Brock in a tight, heartfelt hug, burying her face in his chest for a long moment.
"Don't be a stranger, okay?" she whispered, voice cracking just a little. "You better come visit us soon. And tell Lucy I said hi… and that she's lucky to have you."
Brock hugged her back tightly, patting her back gently. "I will, Misty. Thank you… for everything."
Sabrina stepped forward gracefully. She didn't hug him like Misty did, but she placed a gentle hand on his arm, her violet eyes soft and sincere.
"Take care of yourself, Brock," she said quietly. "You deserve this chance at happiness. We'll miss your perverted antics… and your terrible pickup lines."
Brock let out a watery laugh. "Hey, my pickup lines are legendary."
Daisy waved cheerfully, though her eyes were a little misty too. "Good luck with Lucy! I hope it goes really well. You're going to make her so happy."
Giselle stood awkwardly a few steps behind, still in her maid outfit, shifting from foot to foot. She didn't know Brock well, but even she could feel the weight of the moment. She gave a small, hesitant wave. "Um… safe travels."
Brock looked at each of them his traveling companions, his friends, his family and his chest tightened.
He took a deep breath, trying to keep his voice steady.
"Thanks, everyone. For everything. From the very first day we met… you all changed my life. Ash, you showed me what it means to chase dreams with everything you have. Misty, you kept us all grounded with your fire. Sabrina, your calm strength helped us through the toughest battles. Daisy… you brought even more warmth to the group. And Giselle… well, welcome to the chaos."
He laughed softly, but it sounded a little choked.
"I'll miss traveling with you guys. The battles, the crazy adventures, the late-night talks… all of it. But I need to do this. I need to see where this path with Lucy leads."
Ash pulled him into a strong, brotherly hug.
"Take care, Brocko," he whispered. "We'll see you again soon. And when you do come back… bring Lucy with you. She's part of the family now too."
Brock hugged him back fiercely, eyes shining with unshed tears.
"Yeah… I will."
He stepped back, wiping his eyes quickly with the back of his hand, then gave everyone one last bright, determined smile the kind only Brock could manage even when his heart was heavy.
With a final wave, Brock turned and began walking down the road toward Fuchsia City. His figure slowly grew smaller against the horizon, backpack slung over his shoulder, the morning sun casting a long shadow behind him.
Ash stood there, watching his best friend disappear down the path. A pang of sadness hit him hard, but it was mixed with genuine happiness and pride.
"Take care, Brocko…" he whispered again, voice barely audible.
Misty sniffled, leaning against Ash's side. Sabrina gently squeezed his hand. Daisy wiped a tear from her cheek. Even Giselle looked a little emotional, though she tried to hide it.
The group stood together Ash, Misty, Sabrina, Daisy, and a very confused Giselle as Brock's figure finally vanished around the bend in the road.
A new chapter was beginning.
The Orange Islands awaited.
But for a moment, they all stood in silence, honoring the friend who had been with them through so many adventures.
Ash took a deep breath, then turned to the others with a soft, determined smile.
"Let's go. We have an island to visit… and a GS Ball to pick up."
The girls nodded, wiping away their tears.
With one last look down the road where Brock had disappeared, the group turned and began walking toward their next destination hearts heavy, but full of hope.
