The house was silent when Renjiro finally slipped through the door, the early morning light casting pale grey shadows across the familiar rooms.
He removed his gear—the bloodstained cloak, the damaged flak jacket, the pouches that still held fragments of seals and emergency supplies. He set them aside, noting the repairs that would be needed, the replacements that would have to be made.
His weapons were cleaned and stored, his equipment inspected and organised. The routine was automatic, a ritual that helped him transition from the chaos of combat to the stillness of home.
Finally, he allowed himself to relax.
The tension drained from his shoulders, his jaw, his hands. He sat on the edge of his bed, his head bowed, his eyes closed, and let the exhaustion wash over him. The battle with Orochimaru had taken everything—his chakra, his stamina, his original eyes. But he had survived. He had won. And now, he had time to plan.
In the coming weeks, he thought, I should recover physically. Continue the seal business. And begin the project that matters most: the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan.
He considered his priorities. The seal business could not be abandoned—it was his source of income, his political leverage, his connection to the village's infrastructure.
The clones he had dedicated to production were already working around the clock, expanding his network, fulfilling orders, building his reputation. He could not simply pull them away without consequences.
But the EMS project is different, he realised. It requires focus. Attention. Time that I cannot delegate.
He rose from the bed and moved to his hidden laboratory. He began to arrange the items he would need.
The preserved Sharingan were his most valuable resource. He had collected them over the years; all from his body.
Orochimaru gave me a method; he thought, But that does not make it correct.
He listed the possibilities in his mind. Orochimaru might genuinely believe the method worked. He might have omitted critical information. He might have intentionally inserted false steps. He might simply have incomplete knowledge, his theories untested, his assumptions unproven.
Everything must be independently verified.
The thought was cold, methodical, and absolutely necessary. He could not afford to trust the Sannin's word. He needed to test, to experiment, to build his own understanding from the ground up.
He realised something that he was sure Orochimaru had never considered. His regenerative ability; the Uzumaki vitality that allowed him to heal, to recover, to survive, created an advantage that no other Uchiha possessed.
He mentally separated the eyes into two independent "bloodlines."
The first line was the recent number of eyes Renjiro had regenerated. Because they regenerated from his current biology, each new set eventually developed into a tri-wheel Mangekyō. These were effectively renewable, a resource that would never truly run out as long as he was willing to pay the cost.
The second line was the preserved Sharingan; the eyes that had been regenerated before Renjiro's run-in with the original Renjiro Uzumaki. These eyes, whenever cultivated or evolved, became the six-pointed Mangekyō. Their supply was finite, limited to what he had already collected.
I am not simply trying to make one EMS, Renjiro realised, the thought settling into his consciousness with the weight of revelation.
I possess two entirely separate Mangekyō lineages. That changes everything.
He leaned back, his mind racing through the implications. If he could combine the renewable tri-wheel eyes into an Eternal Mangekyō, he would have a resource that could be replenished indefinitely. If he could understand the process, he could refine it, optimise it, perhaps even expand it.
But no shortcuts, he reminded himself. No rushing. This is too important to risk on impatience.
He outlined his experimental phases.
Phase One was the most critical. For roughly six months, he would continue regenerating eyes, producing as many Sharingan as possible, evolving them into tri-wheel Mangekyō pairs. He would build an enormous testing stock—enough eyes to experiment with, to fail with, to learn from.
Only then, he thought, do I attempt the first EMS. Tri-wheel plus tri-wheel equals first Eternal Mangekyō.
He visualised the process. If he learned the technique using renewable eyes, failures would become acceptable. He could afford to lose a few sets, to make mistakes, to refine his understanding without risking the irreplaceable six-pointed eyes.
Phase Two, he continued, his thoughts accelerating. Once Phase One succeeds—once I understand the process—I can attempt the next step. Tri-wheel plus six-pointed equals hybrid EMS.
He paused. Then he laughed quietly—a soft, surprised sound.
...assuming that even works.
He blew a raspberry at himself. The idea was absurd. He was contemplating combining two entirely different Mangekyō lineages.
But if it works...
He froze.
His mind began connecting possibilities, each one building on the last, expanding the scope of what he believed was possible.
If tri plus tri works... and six plus six works... and tri plus six works...
He slowly realised what he was contemplating.
Three possible Eternal Mangekyō evolution paths.
Variant One: Tri-wheel plus Tri-wheel equals EMS Variant Alpha. Renewable. Potentially unlimited. A resource that could be replenished as long as he was willing to pay the cost.
Variant Two: Six-pointed plus Six-pointed equals EMS Variant Beta. Limited. Dependent upon preserved stock. A finite resource that would eventually run out.
Variant Three: Tri-wheel plus Six-pointed equals Hybrid EMS Variant. Entirely unknown. Potentially the strongest of the three, combining the properties of both lineages.
Renjiro almost stopped breathing.
Not because of excitement—though that was part of it.
Because of scale.
If this succeeded, he wouldn't simply possess an EMS. He would understand the process. He could become a master of Eternal Mangekyō evolution.
The regenerated tri-wheel line never truly runs out, he realised. The limiting factor is regeneration. And regeneration costs... pieces of my soul.
He thought of the price. A sufficient price. He spoke the words aloud, his voice quiet, matter-of-fact.
"A sufficient price."
Not dramatic. Not heroic. Simply a statement of fact.
His imagination briefly ran wild—not ambition, but pure analysis. If EMS could truly be manufactured, could multiple bodies possess EMS? Could an organisation be built around elite Mangekyō users? Could a completely new clan arise?
He compared himself to Danzo. The difference was stark. Danzo hoarded ordinary Sharingan, using them as disposable tools. He could theoretically hoard Eternal ones.
If this became reality, he thought, there would be no need to preserve the Uchiha clan. I could build something stronger. An entirely new clan.
He immediately caught himself.
Stopped. Breathed. Rejected his own excitement.
Too many assumptions, he reminded himself. Too many unknowns. Every one of these ideas depends upon successful EMS creation, survival, regeneration limits, soul degradation, time.
He deliberately reduced everything back to one sentence.
First: increase Sharingan stock. Second: begin Project EMS. Everything else can wait.
He put away the research materials, sealing the jars, storing the notebooks. The eyes were safe, the data recorded, the plans outlined. He allowed himself a long shower, the hot water washing away the grime and exhaustion of the past days.
Before sleeping, he created a single shadow clone.
"Maintain daily responsibilities," he instructed. "Attend office matters. Handle reports. Nothing unusual."
The clone nodded and moved toward the door, already assuming the routine of the Jonin Commander. The original fell into bed, unconscious, before his head hit the pillow.

The clone moved through the administration building with practised efficiency, handling the endless stream of paperwork that came with the Jonin Commander position. Reports to review, mission assignments to approve, personnel files to update. The routine was familiar, almost comforting.
His aide entered the office, a stack of documents in her hands.
"Commander Uzumaki," she said, her voice professional, composed. "The Academy examinations concluded yesterday. The Genin assignments have been finalised."
She placed the list on his desk.
Renjiro took it, his gaze scanning the familiar names. His clone's eyes widened slightly as he read.
