Chapter 282 - Chapter 281 - Investigating Tokyo.

[Chapter Size: 2000 Words.]

Third Person POV

Japan.

...

...

Arriving in Japan wasn't difficult. While Severus avoided drawing attention, he went directly to the sky above Tokyo. With his jet simply disappearing, transforming into the same coin Severus had tossed before turning it into a car with transfiguration, all done invisibly so that no one there could see it.

He grabbed the coin and began to fall in free fall, until his body glowed and he dropped like a small lightning bolt in the sky — discreet enough not to attract any eyes, while he stepped out of an alley somewhere in the city, not far from the center.

The city looked quite normal at that moment. Of course, Tokyo's life was still busy. The red sky and the round hole didn't seem to draw people's attention, at least in that part of the city, and cars and people going to work crowded the streets and roads.

But as he approached the center, Severus noticed that things weren't quite as he thought.

The entire place was isolated, companies closed and streets blocked. There were soldiers and specialists researching the sky phenomenon, while the military surrounded the whole area with Muggle weapons in hand.

The streets and buildings were empty beneath the portal. Severus managed to pass through everyone there while observing the portal more closely, sensing a slight danger coming from that thing — and for him to feel danger in his current state, the threat had to be very large.

"What's inside there?" he murmured, narrowing his eyes. That feeling — the same as the portals — was exactly what the portal emitted.

It was then that he looked down from the building where he stood and saw several research centers set up in tents full of computers. Severus considered taking a look, since he wouldn't have access to that data before the request he had made to NASA. He became invisible and entered the place easily with shadow teleportation.

The place was full of old computers, with large, bulky cases, since at that time technology wasn't so refined; several people were seated analyzing data inside the labs, but Severus entered the tent with only one inside. Various images of the portal, with different filters, appeared on the screens. Severus observed beside the man sitting in front of the black-and-white screen, who researched and analyzed.

"The radiation level remains the same still… but the impression is that it's growing, even if the computers don't register it...", the man murmured, thinking aloud, unaware of Severus' presence at his side.

Severus looked at his own clothes and transfigured them into the same coat the man wore, matching him. The badge appeared: Snape Prince, with his photo.

"Maybe radiation isn't the only energy you should be researching." Severus' voice sounded behind the man.

The researcher jumped from his chair, almost screaming in fright. "Damn, you scared me, Dr. Prince!", the man said, raising an eyebrow. He didn't recognize that boy, who looked far too young, but he couldn't deny that he had the same uniform… even the badge.

Before he could ask questions, Severus simply used Legilimency and implanted quick instructions, making the man blink a few times before smiling — now, to him, Severus was just a familiar coworker. There was no reason to question anything.

"What do you mean, Mr. Prince?"

"Maybe radiation isn't the main energy coming from the portal. Have you tried detecting it through mana?" he asked.

"Mana? What is that?" The man was stunned, but Severus placed in his mind a series of information about the mana institute — another form of energy, the same generated by the portals. Severus could feel powerful mana coming from that portal. No wonder he felt so threatened by it.

Severus not only inserted the information into the researcher's mind, but also took a device from his inventory — one he had created himself. Since portals had been appearing from paintings and only he could detect them, he decided to build something so people could check their own paintings in case a dungeon exploded inside a house or anywhere else. In the last few days, he had created this machine capable of detecting mana power, different from magical power. Mana came directly from the portals and allowed determining the strength of the monsters inside.

"Ah, yes… your project," the man said, recognizing it after the memories implanted by Severus aligned with his own. "You mentioned the mana detector."

"First of all, tell me more about the portal you discovered. I need to know everything," Severus requested.

The man nodded and began to report: the instability, the colors that changed constantly and grew more intense. That was why he insisted that, even with stable radiation, something inside was increasing.

Severus listened to everything, took several pieces of data, and the man provided all the information on a floppy disk. Then Severus left the research center with him and showed the detector, pointing it at the portal. The needle rose immediately.

This portal is far too strong… since the needle was at the absolute maximum of the detection screen. This portal was more powerful than any other he had ever seen. He would need a much larger machine if he truly wanted to measure the real amount of mana.

"I want you to keep this. Here's my number and address. You must send me information whenever the portal becomes more violent. I know we can't detect its full strength now with the needle maxed out, but you can see that the pointer will go crazy if the portal increases its power," Severus explained.

The man nodded upon hearing that. "I understand, Mr. Prince. Leave it to me. You know I'm a great coworker. We can monitor this together," he said enthusiastically. He was about thirty years old and part of the team trying to understand that phenomenon — the authorities were extremely worried, but no one truly imagined that it was a portal connected to another dimension or even another place in the universe.

"Ah, you're here, outside…" A voice sounded behind them. The man beside Severus turned and saw another coworker approaching with a coffee in hand.

"Ah, you brought coffee! Well, if I had known, I would've asked for one for Doctor Prince," he said, while the newcomer looked at the device.

"What's that?" the coworker asked.

"Oh, this is a detector Mr. Prince gave me," the man said, laughing, while the coworker with the coffee looked confused.

"Mr. Prince? Who's that?"

"How do you not know? Our colleague here…" He pointed to the side, but when he looked, Severus was no longer there.

"I guess he left," the man said in the end, scratching his head. Soon they went back into the tent to continue reviewing the data.

Severus returned to the Prince Mansion some time later. In four hours, the temple portal would open. He went to the garden first, beginning to clean up the Graphorn mess again. He found Pandora in the garden, where some structures were still broken around her. Severus made a quick movement with his wand and began repairing everything.

"Sev, you're back!" Pandora said, smiling as she saw him.

"Hi, Pandora. You're really committed to taking care of these plants, huh?" he said as he passed by her and went straight to the Graphorn couple.

She only smiled and went back to watering a garden she had asked to create outside the mansion.

"And you, you fool!" Severus slapped Atlas on the rear, while the huge Graphorn growled at him. "Can you stop destroying the garden and its whole structure? I already told you: if you touch any of those plants over there, I'll eat you for dinner."

Severus looked at his mate, lightly touching her belly. "Well, looks like you're pregnant," he said, ignoring Atlas' protests.

"I'm serious, Atlas," Severus pointed at the Graphorn. "You have to stop this. You're free now. Otherwise I'll cage you." But thinking about it, there was no point in keeping that Graphorn there anymore. Maybe it was better to send him into the wild, where he belonged.

"Maybe I should send you back to where I used to live before… there was the Costão beach, wasn't there? You could live well there." Severus analyzed Atlas. There was no reason to keep that magical creature there. "Later I can cast a spell over the place to protect you."

Severus looked into the distance and could see the crowd at the property's entrance. As soon as they saw him, they began shouting his name. He sighed — that crowd was there every day.

A disturbance in the space beside him occurred and someone appeared next to him. Few people could do that inside the property, since he had to allow them to do so as the family's master.

Severus could also feel the shadows at his feet almost reacting to someone approaching so suddenly, especially Beru, who had become quite insistent about his safety. Beru simply didn't like people getting close to the king so abruptly, as if they were about to attack him. Severus practically had to hold her back to keep her from attacking the woman who materialized there.

He then looked at Bellatrix, who had been staring at him since she learned he was at the mansion.

"Where were you?" she asked, curious.

"I went to take care of a few things, well… nothing major," Severus shrugged, while she nodded, not pressing further after that.

"Anyway, we'll have an early dinner today. I… I'm going out tonight," Severus said, and Bellatrix raised an eyebrow. The distortion in space appeared beside them when Rosaria showed up.

"Going out with who?" Rosaria asked, since the four brides were present. Rosaria came immediately to question him, reading Severus' lips from a distance.

"I'm going alone. There's a portal I need to enter," Severus said, aware of her doubtful look, since he hadn't said anything about the portal that would open in a few hours.

"Portal?" Rosaria murmured. "Severus, then let me accompany you—" She was about to ask, but Severus cut her off, raising his hand to stop her.

"No, no one here is going into that portal," he interrupted before she finished. When she opened her mouth to ask if she could go with him,

"But…"

"Don't even try. This is something I must do alone."

Rosaria stayed silent for a few seconds before nodding in the end.

Severus called his uncle, and Clarisse also joined them, with Pandora coming right behind. He didn't know how long he would be gone and explained the situation, after all, he had disappeared for a month before.

Bellatrix was a bit dissatisfied and Rosaria was worried, but in the end they yielded and stayed to sleep at the Prince Mansion, while Pandora and Clarisse returned to their parents' home, unable to stay out.

"Whatever you're going to do, Severus, it sounds serious… just come back alive," was all Rosaria said, as if it were almost an order to Severus given how serious her voice was.

Even he noticed that it was something important and went to say goodbye. "My nephew, return soon. At least be back in time for breakfast."

"Thank you. Any correspondence for me, keep it — whether from the United States or especially from Japan, set it aside. I'm expecting some information I requested."

With that, Severus went to the library, and Rosaria and Bellatrix accompanied him while he spent his last hours reading a book. When the last second in the system dropped, a message appeared informing him that the portal had opened in a specific area of England.

Severus stood up, said goodbye even to the four house-elves… and disappeared from the mansion.
