Chapter 302 - Chapter 301 - What is Inside that Portal?

[Chapter Size: 2400 Words.]

Third Person POV

Great Britain.

...

...

Severus spent about three days, a good part of that time, in interviews with the press. Most of the questions revolved around what those giant monsters were, why no one had been able to fight them, where they came from, and what was inside the portal.

Severus answered honestly. He explained that this was one of the members who had betrayed the Order and become monarchs like him... But that their plan was simply to devastate the entire world, turning the souls of its inhabitants into more giants.

They could do this by acquiring a certain number of souls, but in this case, they would need many; after all, in the end, the Monarch of Giants had only fifty of them.

People also questioned what he would do now with those giants he had acquired as his new shadows, since it had become public that he had used necromancy on them, turning them into black giants and placing them within his shadow.

The answer was simple: to use them against the Monarchs. Against the war that was coming.

After that, no one questioned him anymore. Everyone was well aware of who the true enemy was and understood that it was better to have powerful allies than to live fearing death magic, something that in normal times would be immediately condemned. However, this was not a normal time.

Other, stranger questions arose, especially from gossip magazines. They wanted to know what he felt about the war he was fighting, the low points and high points of the battles in Japan. What his strategies had been to defeat the giants and the larger one in Tokyo... Even details about his more romantic encounters with the brides in the middle of the battlefield.

Severus ignored these questions and moved on to dealing with the next ones, which were about the portals, specifically the portal that had appeared above Cokeworth. People had already discovered that Severus used to live there during his childhood, and it did not take long for someone to identify the center of the portal and realize that it was forming exactly over his old house.

The questions quickly shifted to directly questioning him. They wanted to know if he had anything to do with it and what exactly was happening. Severus replied that he did not know for sure what would happen, nor whether the portal had any direct connection to him, but he assured them that he would be there to fight it when it broke open, unlike Japan, which had been inside a space separate from the world.

Many wondered if that was also the work of another Monarch. Severus did not have a definitive answer to that, but he stated that he would deal with any threat that arose.

Several sensationalist headlines began to circulate, some questioning Severus and even trying to blame him. Even so, these voices were drowned out. Most of the world had seen a hero, not someone trying to hide something or dominate the world. After all, his actions — and even his shadows — had taken on a new image. As dark as they were, they awakened positive feelings in people when they saw them saving those in need in the destroyed cities of Japan.

Severus also explained how his brides had acquired enough abilities to injure giants, shocking the world. This was due to the mana crystals obtained inside the dungeons he explored, with which he was able to create strengthening potions. With this, his brides became extremely powerful, far surpassing their previous strength.

This generated a wave of people interested in the crystals, offering absurd amounts of money for them. Severus refused all offers. He said he would use the crystals to create new potions, but that he would select a group of people to receive them for free, as he also wanted this world to have enough power to deal with the monsters from the dungeons.

He would have to work on industrializing his potion-creation machines in his small factory hidden north of Hugh Smith.

Another important matter was the mana detection device he made available to the world. The companies in which he was an investor already knew who he was and what he had done in Japan. They did not fail to express their gratitude.

NASA immediately began sending reports that he needed to analyze, even though he had already done so before, when he had threatened one of the facilities. Now, no one would dare delay matters with Severus at that moment.

He distributed the designs for the mana detectors to both Muggles and wizards. Quickly, joint work began: the Muggles started manufacturing them on a large scale after seeing the design and distributed them to both the wizarding world and the Muggle world. This caused the entire world to begin searching for new anomalies everywhere, especially in magical paintings... and, indeed, hundreds of them began to be found around the globe.

All the information was sent directly to England and, from there, to Severus Prince. He was satisfied with this and would deal with it as soon as he had time, because he continued working on the last machinery of his factory.

When all the machines were ready, the potions began to be produced on a large scale, while his shadows worked using the bodies of the dark wizards who had been defeated. They would be used to strengthen the world.

He also created a special machine, made in just one day, designed precisely to use the mana crystals, and it began producing around 200 potions per day.

The entire world was agitated. Wealthy people hid in bunkers. The population itself prepared stocks of food, weapons, and supplies, everyone organizing themselves for what could be the end of the world. The governments of the countries tried to contain the panic. At that moment, no one wanted to deal again with something similar to what had happened in Japan.

Severus returned to the village every night. The families who lived there were well and protected. Whatever was beginning to happen to the world, everyone knew that panic was taking over the cities: overcrowded markets, heavy traffic, people wanting to flee, and governments trying to maintain calm.

The tension was evident, especially regarding the city of Cokeworth.

"They tried to loot our house," Mr. Evans muttered angrily as he read the newspaper stating it, but it was not because they had tried to loot the house itself that it appeared in the paper, but rather because no one was able to enter it; there was an invisible field that prevented anyone from getting inside, and the Muggles announced it as a magical barrier.

"I hope Petunia is well..." Miss Evans murmured.

"If Severus hadn't put magical protection on our house, we would have had our things stolen..." Lily murmured.

"Don't even get me started... We've been their neighbors for decades... how can they?" Mrs. Evans said, showing the newspaper.

"They are desperate for resources, everyone thinks the city will be destroyed and they're looting everything..." Lily's father said.

"And now they're angry at us... because I'm a witch?" Lily couldn't help murmuring as she continued reading the rest of the newspaper.

The Muggles seemed stunned and filled with rage upon discovering the existence of the magical world, calling wizards aberrations and claiming that they controlled the world from behind the scenes, or even accusing them of having been responsible for bringing the monsters.

"They're even blaming Severus. No matter what they say, none of this is true," Mr. Evans muttered beside them, as they tried to keep themselves away from all that chaos, living isolated there.

Already in the city itself, Tobias walked in a foul mood through the line of civilians. He was still quite injured by everything he had been going through for almost two years, and as he walked through the streets, he noticed people staring at him, narrowing their eyes in his direction.

"Look at that one there. That's Tobias Snape, the father of the man who saved Japan. They say the portal is aiming directly at their house."

"I heard he's a drunk who killed his own wife. He says his son beat him."

"Well, I wouldn't be surprised. If he had killed my mother, I would have done the same. Severus Prince must hate him..."

"Surprised? That thing is trash. Look at him, a drunken failure."

People continued whispering around Tobias, who walked through the streets toward one of the buses the government had made available. He couldn't help clenching his teeth as he heard all of that.

"I heard Severus took one of the families out of Cokeworth, one that liked him and has a witch in the family, can you believe we were neighbors with wizards?"

"I know, it's the Evans. I also remember that gloomy brat. I never imagined he was such a wizard. After all, they always said that Mr. Evans's daughter and him studied at a boarding school where they stayed for months. I never imagined it was a school of magic. I also never imagined that Severus Snape would become what he is today and save an entire country."

"Apparently, he didn't save his own father."

"And who would save that drunk? He beat Severus and his mother until she couldn't take it anymore. I don't know why he was never arrested."

"I heard there's something to do with Severus's uncles, but they're all already dead by Severus's own hand. Can you believe that?"

"I don't know why you people talk about him as if he were a hero. He's an aberration and must be behind all these portals. Can't you see that he's using those dark powers to acquire more giants? Can't you see that he's getting stronger and stronger? He's no hero at all. He's a dark being who is growing more powerful by the day, until no one will be able to deal with him anymore," a man beside them roared. "I never liked that boy."

People continued provoking Tobias as he boarded the bus. The looks of disdain remained fixed on him, and no one there seemed to like him. Even those who believed Severus was an evil person who wanted to destroy the world also despised Tobias. He had no one's sympathy and was completely alone.

It didn't take long for Cokeworth to be completely evacuated. By the second day, there were no civilians left in the city. The British army, along with forces from other countries of Great Britain, surrounded the region. Weapons were positioned, around twelve war tanks patrolled the streets, planes flew through the sky, and the full force of NATO joined the operation. Military troops from various countries were present, displaying their flags.

Severus was floating in the sky over Cokeworth at that moment, watching the portal. He felt it wouldn't take long before it ruptured and, finally, whatever was on the other side emerged.

His gaze narrowed. He slowly moved his head as he noticed a man flying beside him. Once again, Steve was there, wearing a calm and friendly smile. He wasn't holding a wand, he wasn't using any artifact — he was simply floating with powers that Severus also didn't understand, nor did air magic react to him. Even Severus needed to use his staff to fly, but that man was different.

"I looked for you over the last two days, but you vanished, even though you kept posting your articles in the Quibbler," Severus said calmly. That man hadn't been found anywhere in Great Britain when he tried to look for him.

"You saw it? The Quibbler has become the best-selling newspaper right now. A huge success, I'd say... It even surpassed the Daily Prophet, and they lost many subscriptions. They're quite angry with me. I'm receiving threatening letters from the editors. That Rita Skeeter is also looking for me, trying to smear my name... Thinking I'm stealing articles from others or even from her... foolish," he began to laugh. It was a laugh Severus didn't share; he only stared at him seriously.

"What is your game, Steve? You're going to answer me. What are you?" Severus asked.

Steve merely shook his head. "Not now, Severus. You will have your answers, but it won't be now. In any case, I want to inform you of something: a second Monarch is coming to this world," he said slowly.

Severus narrowed his eyes and snorted. "I know that very well. Look at the portal above us."

"It's not through that portal that he will come. You've heard about the comet that struck Mars, haven't you? That was a block of ice, freezing an army inside it, full of ice monsters."

"Ice?" Severus frowned.

"Yes, exactly. It's him. He only didn't come to this world because the Monarch of Giants arrived first. He parked on Mars until he recovered and left the solar system. However, he only learned what happened to the Monarch of Giants afterward. In fact, he thinks I was the one who defeated him. Anyway, he will come to this world in a few days."

Severus didn't like that at all. There was already a portal about to open, and now there was another Monarch on the way, coming along with that comet.

"I assume his army isn't as small as the Monarch of Giants'," Severus commented.

Steve nodded. "I'm not talking about fifty, but about 10,000 times that number of creatures. Do you think I was away for nothing? I went to investigate. He's already almost ready to leave Mars and fall to Earth..." he replied.

"And are you going to fight?" Severus narrowed his eyes even more. Five hundred thousand creatures was a worrying number, although he believed he could handle it.

"No. I can't fight," Steve said. "This will be a battle that you yourself will have to fight. I only came to warn you that the portal above us will open tomorrow, at noon. That's all I can tell you. Goodbye."

The next moment, he glowed and disappeared.

Severus remained still, narrowing his eyes. He didn't know what to say. The information seemed correct; he himself felt that the portal would open in less than twenty-four hours.

But now there was another Monarch — the Monarch of Ice — outside the world, ready to come to Earth. So what did the portal above him really mean? He didn't know. Steve hadn't given him answers.

Severus merely sighed and disappeared from there. He needed to inform the world about what was about to happen and prepare for the next day.
