Chapter 321 - Chapter 321: Infiltration plan

Uzui

The room was dimly lit by the flickering light of a lantern, casting elongated shadows against the wooden walls. Tengen Uzui stood near the center, his imposing frame exuding confidence as he studied the three figures before him.

The vampire brides, summoned by Shalltear, stood in elegant silence, their crimson eyes glimmering unnaturally in the dim light. Their skin was unnaturally pale, a stark contrast against the deep black of their flowing hair. Each of them carried themselves with an air of quiet dignity, their expressions unreadable.

Alex and Shalltear had dropped these women into his hands without so much as giving them names, leaving Uzui in charge of their integration into the mission. That meant he had to prepare them, and more importantly, he had to make sure they blended in among the courtesans of Yoshiwara.

Uzui leaned against the wall, arms crossed, watching them with mild amusement. "So, how should I address you three?" he asked, tilting his head slightly.

The three vampire brides exchanged brief glances before one of them stepped forward. Her voice was smooth, yet emotionless. "We do not possess individual names. We are simply known as Vampire Brides."

Uzui raised an eyebrow. "Yeah, that's not gonna work," he said flatly. "You're infiltrating the entertainment district. If you go around saying you're Vampire Brides, people are going to get suspicious. You need names."

The same woman responded without hesitation, her tone unwavering. "If that is necessary, then provide us with suitable identities."

Uzui smirked, rubbing his chin. "Alright, then. Let's keep it simple."

He studied the three women more closely. Despite their identical crimson eyes and pale skin, there were slight differences in their appearances. Their hairstyles varied—one had long, straight hair that reached her waist, another had her hair tied into a high ponytail, and the last had shoulder-length hair with soft waves.

Uzui pointed at the one with the high ponytail first. "You'll be called Hana."

Then, to the one with straight hair. "You? Rin."

And finally, to the one with wavy shoulder-length hair. "You'll be Mei."

The three brides silently accepted their names, showing no reaction beyond a small nod.

Uzui sighed, waving a hand. "You can at least pretend to have some personality, y'know."

"We do not possess such trivial emotions," Rin stated plainly.

Uzui rolled his eyes. "Of course you don't." He pushed himself off the wall and turned towards the small table in the room.

On it sat three delicate-looking silver necklaces, each embedded with a small gemstone that shimmered faintly under the lantern light.

"These," he said, picking up one of the artifacts, "are gifts from Alex." He held the necklace up. "He said that this will make you appear human. No more ghostly white skin, no more glowing red eyes—just regular girls."

The three vampire brides examined the artifacts without touching them. Since it was an artifact their supreme being personally gave them, they looked at that like treasure.

Uzui sighed. "Just put them on. If you walk into Yoshiwara looking like how you are now, people are going to freak out."

Without hesitation, each bride took a necklace and fastened it around their necks. Almost instantly, their features changed. The unnatural paleness of their skin deepened into a healthy, human-like complexion, and their crimson eyes faded into shades of brown, hazel, and dark blue.

They now looked like perfectly normal women—beautiful, yes, but no longer unnatural.

Uzui smirked. "Much better. You'll blend in just fine."

Hana adjusted the necklace slightly. "Thanks Alexander-sama for such a gift."

Mei ran her fingers over her now-normal skin. "It is… strange to feel warmth. Like Alexander-sama is holding me."

Uzui raised an eyebrow. "Wait. You guys don't normally feel temperature?" Uzui leaves out there weird voice after they put the necklace.

Rin shook her head. "We are undead. We do not feel the cold or the heat. However, this artifact simulates the sensation of human warmth to further our disguise."

Uzui whistled. "Alex really went all out, huh? Makes my job easier." He clapped his hands together. "Alright. Now that you look the part, it's time for the next step."

The vampire brides turned their attention to him, awaiting his orders.

Uzui's expression turned serious. "We're going to infiltrate three separate courtesan houses—the same ones my wives were sent to before they lost contact. I'll be 'selling' you into each house."

The three women remained silent, showing neither surprise nor concern.

"Since you're all stupidly beautiful," Uzui continued, "you won't have trouble getting accepted. The oirans and house owners will take you in without question."

Mei tilted her head. "Sell us?"

Uzui nodded. "That's how things work here. Women are either born into these houses or sold into them. If I walk in as a flashy customer and offer you up as high-class girls, they'll take you in without hesitation."

Hana blinked. "And what if they ask about our backgrounds?"

"I'll handle that part," Uzui assured her. "You're runaways, orphans, or girls looking to make a fortune in the red-light district. Something vague but believable. Just follow my lead."

Rin crossed her arms. "And our objective?"

Uzui's expression darkened slightly. "Find out what happened to my wives. They were investigating demon activity in the district before they lost contact. That means the demons here caught on."

The three vampire brides nodded in unison.

Uzui exhaled and cracked his knuckles. "Alright. Let's go over the plan one more time before we head out."

The infiltration began smoothly.

The first stop was Tokito House, where Makio had been stationed before losing contact. Uzui walked into the establishment with Hana trailing behind him, her expression blank yet refined. The moment the house owner laid eyes on her, he was practically throwing money at Uzui, eager to take her in.

"The girl's a beauty! You sure you want to let her go for that price?" the owner asked, inspecting Hana like a prized jewel.

Uzui grinned, feigning disinterest. "I've got too many to handle. Figured I'd lighten my load."

The man laughed, pleased with his purchase. Hana was quickly whisked away, her disguise flawless.

Next was Kyogoku House, where Suma had gone. Mei was the one to be placed there, her soft-spoken nature making her seem like an innocent girl forced into the trade. The house owner, a woman, took an instant liking to her.

And finally, Ogimoto House, where Hinatsuru had been. Rin was sent there, playing the role of a quiet but alluring beauty. As expected, the house accepted her without hesitation.

Uzui left each house after completing the transactions, his mind already working on the next phase. The vampire brides were inside. Now, it was up to them to gather information.

Standing at the edge of the Yoshiwara district, Uzui looked up at the crescent moon and exhaled.

"This better work."

With that, he disappeared into the shadows.
