[49: Surprise]
Oh man, giving me access to the IT stuff is such a…blessing. Now, I'm not saying anything, but one of the biggest cybersecurity risks is insider threats. Make use of that knowledge as you will in the context of me being in this kind of job and what I've done before.
Anyway, that was basically my summer. Oh, and I did go back to America for Fourth of July celebrations. Yeah, I may be getting "on-hands summer class experience," but Nezu was nice enough to grant it to me. So, that was fun. Anyway, now back to the time everyone likes! School. Sucks to be a commuter, and even better because there's no moving into the dorms here, because apparently, while it's dangerous enough to give us the option to take the Provisional Hero License Exam, it's not dangerous enough to where Nezu is moving everyone into the dorms by force. And thank goodness, because living in a dorm with someone else is either a nice experience or a complete nightmare, no in-between. But then again, it doesn't work like that here, so it's alright.
I was the first one in the classroom. And as expected, Iida and Momo were the first ones here. Now, you may be wondering, "Eleanor, didn't you take a whole bunch of credit by exams? Why are you in class with the others?" Relax a little, my friend. I've become a supplemental instructor. For a few classes, at least. I still have normal classes, like the modern hero art or literature? Whatever it's called. The one with Midnight. And it's this way, because Nezu wants me to stick with Class 1-A in all classes instead of sort of leaving them behind.
Now, you may be thinking it's unfortunate, because I could be in the upper classes, and meet some…well, to be straightforward, beautiful girls, like…Nejire Hado. But I don't really care. Yes, she's attractive, but she's too young. Geez, what am I even talking about? I'm a mess, right now.
"Hey, Eleanor. Did you enjoy the break? What did you do?" Iida said to me.
"My break was fine. Went back home for a short vacation. How's your brother Iida?"
"My brother is making a full recovery. I can't thank you enough. Please, if you need to ask me for anything, don't hesitate." He bowed to me at a 90-degree angle. Honestly, it's kind of impressive how he gets it every time.
"You don't need to do all that, Iida. You don't owe me anything. I did it because it was the right thing to do, and I had the capability to act. Isn't that what being a hero is all about?"
"How noble!" He held an arm up to his face to wipe away tears. Does it really affect him that much?
"Relax a little, Iida, class is going to start in a while." I told him.
"Oh, yeah, I don't want to sound rude, but what are you doing here? I heard you did a lot of credit-by-exams," Momo said to me.
"Oh, yeah, about that. I'm going to be a supplemental instructor for some of your classes."
"Really? Yeah, that makes sense. Ever since you threw out all the weird stuff when you explained Star and Stripe's quirk, it was kind of obvious you were way above this level," Momo said.
"Yeah, well, I'm here to help out. Mainly in science and math classes."
"I'll look forward to it," Momo said to me
A few minutes later, I could hear some commotion from outside the halls. Nothing bad, but it sounds like excitement.
"I'm telling you, it was amazing! Every single place we stopped had something so beautiful! We went on this train and a plane and the nature we saw was amazing! We even saw whales! And there was sunlight during nighttime! It was so weird and hard to get used to" That had to be Ochaco. "Look, here are some pictures I took!"
"Whoa, it looks amazing!" That was Mina.
"It looks even better in person!"
"And you went with Eleanor and Momo? How much did it cost?" That was Midoriya.
"They told me not to worry about it. They took care of all the expenses." I could hear the sort of guilty tone behind her voice. I've told her so many times not to worry, and yet, here she is. Eh, whatever.
And then they came into the classroom. Mina went straight at me, getting into my personal space.
"Hey, Eleanor! Can you take me to Alaska next time as well‽" Pictures got her this excited?
I held her shoulders to steady her. "Whoa, Mina, hold on a second, just relax a little. First of all, it's really expensive, and the flights were already paid for. Then there's the hotel and the prices of the excursions, and any other stuff you buy. Did you forget?"
"Oh, right." She finally calmed down after a quick dose of reality.
"Everyone, sit down, we're starting class. And I have a few announcements to make regarding this semester." That was Aizawa. It's kind of funny and comical how everyone seems to get a super-speed Quirk when he just seems to appear out of nowhere. Everyone took their seats and looked like model students.
"Good, it seems you all are still well-behaved after the break. Let's get started. The first announcement is about Eleanor. She will be a supplemental instructor in some of your classes this semester."
I expected a bit of the usual "WHAT‽" or something, but it was just a small surprise, nothing too—
"WHAT‽ HER‽ WHY‽"
You know what? Maybe Bakugo should've been kidnapped.
"Did you not hear Bakugo? He said I'm a supplemental instructor. Although it makes sense, those explosions seem to have finally destroyed your eardrums. It makes sense you're deaf. Your explosions can easily emit 180–200 dB, and human ears suffer permanent ear damage at around 140 dB. Although that sucks, because now you have to be louder, so it's really a detriment to the school."
'WHAT DID YOU SAY‽" Bakugo lunged at me, but just as he held out his hand, he kind of basically fell to the floor.
"Bakugo, control yourself." Aizawa's eyes activated.
"Did you not hear what she said‽"
"I did. But if such words will throw you into a state like this, then you have a lot of work to do." Aizawa let Bakugo go, and he went back to his seat.
"Okay, with that over with, I can get to the next announcement. It's about the Hero Provisional License Exam. This semester, you have the option to take it. This is an exception for your class. It would've been a mandatory thing, but this was the decision. Now, let me explain what it is. The Provisional Hero License lets you legally use your quirk when there is danger present, as long as you are being supervised by a professional, and if there is an emergency present when you are the only one able to do something."
Right, an "emergency." But we're in the Greater Tokyo Area, there's a lot of heroes here already. So, will I get in trouble if I use my quirk in an emergency because there's a hero office already close? Yeah, what help that is. I don't put it past them to not punish someone doing something like that, just because some random hero was nearby and therefore, you didn't need to do anything, and now we will punish you for acting during an emergency.
Aizawa continued, "The exam to get the license will take place in September, which only gives you a month and a few days to train and practice. Those who wish to take the exam, raise your hand. I'll come by and hand over the application."
Just like what Nezu and I mentioned, everyone's hand shot up. And mine as well, because why not?
"I see. I guess we'll use this class time to go over the application, and I'll guide you through it."
Alright, let's do this.
Cue the training montage! Or whatever the training montage will be like, because I don't know what to train.
