If someone doesn't know him, they would definitely think he's being overdramatic. But if they know his past, if they know the kind of pain he endured as a child, the pain of losing loved ones, seeing his family in helpless pain, just thinking about these would make her heart ache for him, a sour ache.
She desperately wants to help him bear all of this, desperately wants to lift at least half of the burden from his shoulders. But he says he hopes he can help her bear more responsibility. Doesn't he know that the heaviest burden on her heart is the full weight of responsibility she sees on his shoulders every time, and the sour sorrow that fills her heart because of it.
If she tried to explain all of this to him, he probably wouldn't listen to a word, not only would he not listen, he might even find her words amusing. Like how she really wanted to spend his birthday with him.
When can she truly enter his heart and share all his burdens.
