The king sat in his study with his chin resting on his knuckles as he remembered what Mirabelle spoke to him about earlier; about how she felt a presence with her in the guestroom.
Sebastian began to wonder who it must have been because he knew Mirabelle didn't say all that just for attention.
The more he thought about it, the clearer his suspicion became. He had two people on his mind that he suspected; his great grandfather and his distant cousin Hades.
He gritted his teeth in anger and his eyes glimmered with hatred.
"Hades" Sebastian said under his breath and in a millisecond, a being began to materialize behind him.
To humans, it was also a human but to supernatural creatures like light and night creatures, the human appearance was just a facade to cover its true, horrible form. It could easily fool any human but apparently, the king wasn't human.
"You called?" Sebastian heard a husky voice say behind him as black wisps slowly enveloped the study.
Standing up from his chair, Sebastian turned around with his hands in his pockets to stare into pitch black eyes of Hades. In his original form, staring into those eyes could grip a human with fear and eventually immobilize them but that power of Hades didn't work on all night creatures and that included the king.
"You plan on saying something right? Else, why is the great king staring at me?" Hades asked, emphasizing on the word "king" with a mischievous smile on his face.
"Why did you go to her?" Sebastian asked, trying to suppress his anger and Hades feigned an innocent expression despite knowing exactly what Sebastian was talking about.
"Is it a bad thing if I decide to see who has finally gotten the heart of my wonderful, wonderful cousin?" Hades began walking around the study, touching some books on the shelf as he spoke.
He paused to look up at Sebastian "At first I thought you kept the disabled human just for fun. But seeing the way you pay attention to her is getting really interesting. Is Mahalalel Sebastian Zennor really in love with a human?" Hades teased. His tactics in conversations were similar to Sebastian's great-grandfather's.
Hades said those exact words knowing it could stir a reaction from Sebastian.
"You know despite all this..." Sebastian eyed Hades from head to toe before continuing "I could hurt you in unimaginable ways if you keep on testing me".
Hades' expression turned serious upon hearing Sebastian's words. "King of Denver, I'd like to see you try" Hades said mockingly.
"I'm going to tell you just once. Do not go anywhere near my human or I would certainly make you pay" Sebastian said and his handsome features became hard as he gave his cousin a stern look.
Hades stared at him with disbelief, shocked that Sebastian was serious about the human girl.
"Do you actually think God will let you love a human? After wiping out more than a thousand of them and making some servants in your palace despite knowing they are his most loved creation? Don't be delusional Sebastian. You're the same as the rest of us. A sinner with no redemption." Hades said and in that very moment, the atmosphere in the study suddenly changed and all of Sebastian's eyes, including his sclera turned red.
The black wisps that had enveloped the study quickly entered Hades' body with full force, as if in retreat and Hades found himself being pulled to his knees by Sebastian's powers which didn't need physical contact to have an effect.
He groaned as he felt the overwhelming power control his body. He tried fighting it but it was of no use; he was brought to his knees.
Gritting his teeth, he lifted his face to stare at Sebastian who was towering over him.
Without sparing a second, Sebastian grabbed Hades by the neck and stared into his eyes "We are not the same". His voice sounded deeper.
The words were a clear warning and correction.
After Sebastian's words, Hades noticed that the control over his body had stopped and he disappeared out of Sebastian's sight as quickly as he had arrived.
He had underestimated Sebastian's abilities and learned the hard way.
Now Hades' was gone, Sebastian's eyes slowly returned to its usual grey color.
His mind repeated the words that Hades had said but he didn't care. He wanted the human girl and he was going to have her.
Sebastian walked out of his study towards the cage where his pet was. Onyx, finally seeing the king after a long while, got up from where he was lying and eagerly paced inside his cage; waiting for his master to get to him.
Reaching the Panthers cage, Sebastian unlocked it with the key and Onyx pounced on him with excitement. Standing on its hind legs, the panther was nearly the same height as the king.
"My big boy" the king stroked the head of Onyx.
The smell of blood found its way to the king's nose and he looked inside the cage to see the leftovers of an antelope.
"I guess Benjamin has fed you today" Sebastian tapped Onyx's belly.
Minutes had passed and king was enjoying his time with his pet when a messenger walked to where the king was.
The messenger stood a safe distance away from Onyx, showing the king his fear.
The king looked at the messenger first and then at Onyx. Onyx stared at the messenger with his intimidating eyes, making the man weak in his knees before gracefully walking back to his huge cage.
The messenger, seeing the animal was back in the cage, walked closer to the king and bowed before saying "Milord, Father Roberts is here to see you".
Sebastian looked a tad surprised that the bishop had come to see him without any notice but he stood up from the iron bench which was beside Onyx's cage and walked towards the throne room.
Sebastian arrived the throne room to see Father Roberts waiting with a troubled look on his face.
"Milord" Father Roberts greeted.
"Father Roberts" Sebastian returned the greeting before taking his seat on his throne.
"Milord, I apologise for coming out any notice but I have something very important to say." Father Roberts said.
"Okay, you may continue" Sebastian granted him permission.
