As soon as Yan Ye saw Lian Xinying, he broke into a smile that was both amusing and exasperating.
The reason I use the idiom "amusing and exasperating" is because Lian Xinying felt his smile was very deliberate.
He was smiling intentionally to make Lian Xinying happy.
Or perhaps because Yan Ye rarely smiles when he's outside.
Seeing him suddenly smile so brightly in broad daylight was a bit of a shock.
Lian Xinying quickly walked over to him, and when she got in front of him, he extended his arm to pull her halfway into his embrace.
"How was work today? Did anything upset you?" Yan Ye was worried she might have been wronged.
He figured that if he asked face-to-face, he could tell if she lied.
Lian Xinying calmly shook her head: "No! I told them I'm your legitimate wife and that I'm pregnant... Who would dare bully me now? It'd just be asking for trouble."
Lian Xinying whispered, looking particularly adorable.
Yan Ye thoroughly enjoyed her dependency on him.
