Chapter 49 - Chapter 49 – Fourth Night

Third-person POV

The day of slaughtering zombies, helping out with the logistics of rescue operations for the survivors, dealing with factional diplomacy with the government soldiers, and doing some research work for the cure with Gen was basically normal for Shu. Did he remain cheerful and open to others? Sí, yes, he did, while waiting the day to end for the fourth night of the "Peace Treatment" to come. He got along with Eraño, Ichiro, Mara, Martha, Nato, Hayate, Ran, and the other YKY operatives super well.

By lunchtime, after his quick but hearty lunch, Shu withdrew into his room to update his list of torture request for tonight after dinner. His new updated list was like this:

"Be blindfolded.

I walked across the underground lab blindfolded.

Daijiro ambushed me from an elevated platform with a divider as a wall and shot me with his PKP Pencheneg machine gun.

I was down with the zombie virus-laced bullets (to save up the regular bullets for shooting zombies).

Ran fired zombie virus-laced canisters at me with his grenade launcher (gas canisters surprisingly fit through his gun's barrel) while saying a line of malice at me.

And then, I heard some communication by a comms backpack worn by a YKY operative to Gen.

I will see that, and Nato will point his Desert Eagle pistol at my head with the safety lock on.

And then, 3 YKY soldiers will shoot me for 3 seconds.

Then, the last part will be when Gen gave the green light, and a vial of the modified zombie virus will be taken from a soldier's vest and forced down my throat."

Putting down his black ballpoint pen, Shu inhaled and then exhaled, before doing a Protestant Baptist Christian prayer for the dark night tonight.

After that, he injected his second daily dose of his survival serum into his left arm and then wrote invitations to Ran, Daijiro, and 2 other YKY operatives for tonight's rituals.

And then hours later at 8 p.m., after an hour for dinner and preparatory prayer with his rosary and an afternoon of clearing more zombies roaming and preying across 3 blocks in Tokyo, Shu subjected himself in his fourth nightly ritual in the underground lab. Gen received the photocopied request from him and led the ritual. Ran, Daijiro, and the two chosen YKY soldiers coordinated accordingly by the chronological list of tonight's requests. They were shocked how this nightly ritual did exist, and that Shu was the one who received it, and Gen was the one who came up with it for Shu's mind to be calmed down with cold violence and an injection/vial of a modified zombie virus at the end of it. Nevertheless, the four chosen soldiers accepted it and made their vows to keep it a secret from anyone else.

As Shu was stumbling and touching the open space to track his movements while blindfolded, on an elevated platform with a prop wall and a cut out for a window. Behind it stood Ran with his PKP Pencheneg machine gun mounted on its tripod. The barrel was pointing at Shu. As Shu was sensing his surroundings with his ears and gut feeling.

"Got you," Ran growled to imitate a predatory voice.

He pulled the trigger.

Rat-tat-tat! Rat-tat-tat! Rat-tat-tat!

Shu was being rained and pelted with zombie virus-laced bullets.

Ran then stepped out of the shadows and fired zombie virus-laced canisters at him with his grenade launcher while shouting, "Damn you, ghosts of Shu-kun! Time to get gassed!"

Three canisters clanged against the floor and hissed loudly around Shu, spreading predatory green gas.

Shu let out a few coughs while his lungs was being invaded by the aerosolized zombie virus.

His third smaller dose of his own survival serum, administered by Gen before the ritual commenced, held on the zombie virus within him and fought them hard and greatly.

As Shu collapsed on one knee while coughing more and more, one YKY soldier contacted Gen from the observation deck via his comrade's comms backpack. "Gen-san, I had gassed Shu-kun with 3 canisters filled with aerosolized zombie virus. It was a success."

Seeing and hearing that as Gen replied back via the comms, Shu felt the sensory relief washing over him.

Then, a barrel of a Desert Eagle pistol was being pointed at Shu's right shoulder.

It was Nato who pointed that gun at him with the safety lock on.

Feeling being pointed with the loud and powerful Desert Eagle pistol, Shu's second wave of sensory relief washed over him for the second time.
