Chapter 346 - Chapter 337

The passage of time is a fickle thing, especially when measured against the heartbeat of a dragon-kin and the eternity of a goddess.

In the secluded meadow, far beyond the towering walls of Orario, the hours had dissolved like mist under a rising sun.

Draco and Bahamut had spent the evening cocooned in a world of their own making, a sanctuary of soft whispers and shared glances that seemed to defy the ticking of the cosmic clock.

But even for them, the world eventually demanded its due.

The silence of the wilderness was suddenly punctuated by a low, melodic vibration…..the distant, rhythmic tolling of the clock tower within the city.

Even at this distance, the Great Clock's midnight chime carried through the crisp autumn air, a somber reminder that the day of their union had officially transitioned into the deep of night.

They sat together on a plush rug, the dying embers of a warm fire casting dancing shadows against the interior of an open-faced tent.

Around them, the meadow was alive with the rhythmic chirping of crickets and the intermittent flash of fireflies, like fallen stars wandering through the grass.

The atmosphere was thick, charged with a magnetic tension that neither was truly ready to break.

They could have stayed.

They could have let the fire burn down to ash and spent the remaining hours entangled in each other's warmth.

It wasn't their duties as Captain and Goddess that gave them pause…..Orario could wait, and the Familia could manage for one night.

Rather, it was the fragile, beautiful promise they had whispered to one another earlier that evening.

Under the silver glow of the moon, surrounded by the intoxicating scent of night-blooming flowers, reason was a thin dam holding back a flood of primal desire.

If they stayed, the dam would surely break.

"The clock doesn't lie, even if I wish it would," Draco murmured, his voice a low grate that vibrated in his chest.

Bahamut leaned her head against his shoulder, her silver hair shimmering like silk.

"Time is one of the few things this goddess cannot command to sit still. If we stay here, Draco... I fear I won't be able to keep the promise we made. My heart is racing, and I suspect yours is doing the same."

Draco took a steadying breath, the scent of her perfume….filling his lungs.

"Then we leave. Before the moon tempts us into doing something we said we'd wait for."

With a reluctant sigh, Draco rose.

The transition from lover to normal was instantaneous and efficient.

In a display of physical prowess he began to dismantle the campsite.

Within seconds, the tent was collapsed, the rug rolled, and the supplies bundled.

He gathered the bulk of the equipment into his arms, a load that would have required a carriage for a normal man.

Bahamut stood nearby, her gown fluttering in the breeze, looking every bit the divine being she was.

She reached out, perhaps intending to take a pack to lighten his load, but Draco pivoted slightly, shielding the items from her reach.

"Let me," he said, a faint flush touching his cheeks.

Bahamut tilted her head, a playful smirk touching her lips.

"I am strong, Draco. I can certainly carry a bag or two and leftover fruit."

"It's not about capability," Draco countered, his tone turning sheepish.

"It's... it's embarrassing. You're dressed like that, and we're on a date. I won't have my lady carrying luggage like a common porter while I walk beside her empty-handed."

Bahamut chuckled, the sound like silver bells.

She understood his sentiment….a blend of chivalry and a males protective pride.

She lowered her hand and simply nodded, allowing him his small dignity.

"Very well, my stubborn Captain. Lead the way."

With a powerful, synchronized motion, they unfurled their wings.

Draco's were vast and leathery, built for power, while Bahamut's possessed a celestial luster. With a single, earth-shaking beat, they surged into the sky, leaving the meadow behind as they ascended into the cold, thin air of the upper atmosphere.

The flight was short.

Below them, the sprawling landscape blurred into a tapestry of dark forests and silver rivers. Soon, the colossal walls of Orario loomed ahead, a circular fortress of stone and light.

They didn't even consider the gates.

At this hour, the gates were either bolted shut or guarded by weary patrol units who would certainly recognize the Captain of the Bahamut Familia and his goddess.

Neither was in the mood for the gossip that would inevitably follow a midnight entry through the main thoroughfare.

They cleared the ramparts in a silent glide, shadows passing over the sleeping city.

Minutes later, they descended toward the familiar, lush greenery of the Stardust Garden, the home of their Familia.

They landed with silence, their feet touching the grass of the garden without a sound.

Draco set the supplies down near a side shed, his breath hushing as he scanned the darkened windows of the manor.

"I hope the others are asleep," Bahamut whispered, leaning closer to him.

"If those girls see me like this, I'll never hear the end of it. My 'dignity' is already on thin ice after the sixth bottle of wine."

Draco smiled, reaching out to take her hand.

"You'll always be the most dignified goddess in Orario to me, even if you're a blushing mess."

He escorted her down the winding garden path toward the front door.

The cool autumn breeze picked up, dancing between them and tossing their matching silver hair across their faces.

They stopped at the threshold, the moonlight catching the moisture in their eyes.

The world felt silent, as if holding its breath for them.

Draco took a half-step back and performed a short, intentionally over-exaggerated bow, catching her hand and bringing her knuckles to his lips in a lingering kiss.

"My lady, I thank you for a wonderful evening," he teased, his voice dropping into the sophisticated, velvet tone of a high-born gentleman.

"However, it seems here we must part, lest the scandal of the century break before dawn."

Bahamut stared at him, her eyes wide and shimmering with an unreadable emotion.

She played along for a heartbeat, curtsying slightly.

"The pleasure was mine entirely, Sir Knight."

The silence stretched for a moment too long.

However, the role-play soon shattered.

Bahamut suddenly lunged forward, her hands grasping the lapels of his shirt with surprising force.

She pulled him down, closing the distance between them in a fierce, breathless collision of lips.

It was a deep kiss, one that tasted of desire and the promise they were so desperately trying to keep.

Draco's world spun; the smell of the garden and the chill of the night vanished, replaced entirely by the heat of her.

"Shh," she murmured against his lips when they finally broke for air.

"You talk too much."

She didn't give him a chance to respond before she went in again, more insistent this time.

Draco didn't resist.

He leaned into her, his hand find the small of her back, pulling her flush against him.

After a long, agonizingly sweet interval, they separated.

Bahamut reached up, her thumb caressing his cheekbone.

The moonlight reflected off their flushed faces, and Draco's tail lashed out behind him, restless and uncontrolled, thumping rhythmically against the stone of the porch.

Looking into her eyes, Draco felt a surge of something primal, a heat that threatened to burst through his skin.

He was a dragon-kin; his instincts were as sharp as his claws, and right now, every instinct was screaming at him to never let her go.

Bahamut seemed to sense the tipping point.

With a final, lingering look and a soft, knowing smile, she turned on her heel.

She opened the door, slipped inside, and closed it with a soft click, leaving Draco standing alone in the dark.

Draco stood there for a long time, his mind a whirlwind of confusion and the lingering touch of her soft lips.

He was in a stupor, his body humming with a nervous energy that he didn't know how to discharge.

Finally, he shook his head, trying to clear the fog.

He looked up toward the roof of the manor, his pupils slitting into thin vertical lines.

"Did you enjoy the show?" he asked, his voice flat.

There was no verbal reply, only the sudden, startled shuffling of roof tiles as a shadow moved quickly toward the opposite side of the building.

'Sigh. What is her deal?' Draco thought, recognizing the light footsteps of Chloe.

He shook his head again, realizing he couldn't leave the supplies.

He took to the skies one more time, heading back to the meadow to retrieve the last of the heavier items he'd left behind to make the flight with Bahamut easier.

On the other side of the roof, Chloe sat huddled behind a chimney, her face buried in her hands. Her cheeks were burning hot.

Despite her history as an assassin for a dark familia….where she had seen the worst of the mortal world...she was surprisingly sheltered when it came to genuine romance.

Seeing her captain and her goddess in such an intimate, raw display of affection had sent her heart into a frantic gallop.

She had known about the date, of course….the whole familia knew…..but she hadn't expected that.

It was a level of passion that felt both beautiful and terrifying.

By the time Draco returned with the final load and stowed it away, the manor was truly silent.

He retreated to his private quarters, his body feeling like a coiled spring.

He lay down on his bed, but sleep was a distant dream.

His dragon-kin physiology was a double-edged sword.

His heightened state meant he possessed nearly limitless stamina and a high metabolic rate, but it also meant his physical urges were magnified tenfold.

The stimulation of the date, the scent of Bahamut, and that final, lingering kiss had left him in a state of constant, agonizing arousal.

"Damn it," he hissed into the darkness, staring at the ceiling.

"I should have more discipline than this."

But the body of a dragon-kin did not care for the logic.

Realizing that he wouldn't get a wink of sleep otherwise, he sat up with a groan.

'I guess rubbing it out is the best option' he thought, his face burning with a mix of frustration and necessity.

Within a few minutes, the immediate edge had been taken off, but for a man of his constitution, one session was like trying to put out a forest fire with a cup of water.

With a mix of grim determination and reluctant joy, he settled in for a long night of "self-discipline."

......

Morning arrived with the cruel persistence of sunlight filtering through the curtains.

Draco groaned, his eyes fluttering open to find a dull, throbbing ache in his groin and a general sense of exhaustion that had nothing to do with lack of sleep and everything to do with the "workout" he'd given himself.

He forced himself out of bed and headed to the bathroom.

The Stardust Garden manor was spacious, but with the familia growing, the three bathrooms were often high-traffic areas.

This one was shared between him, Vasileios, Nikolaos, and Michalis.

Fortunately, he was the first one up.

After a long, cold shower that did wonders for his lingering restlessness, he dressed in his usual attire and made his way to the kitchen.

He sometimes took it upon himself to handle breakfast.

However, to his surprise, someone was already there.

Bahamut was standing by the large stove, humming a catchy, upbeat tune as she flipped golden-brown pancakes.

She looked refreshed, her silver hair tied back in a messy bun, seemingly unaffected by the late hour they had kept.

"Morning," Draco said, his voice a bit raspy.

He offered a small, tentative smile.

"Morning!" Bahamut chirped, turning to give him a radiant grin.

The initial greeting was easy, but as they stood in the small space, the memory of the previous night rushed back.

The silence that followed was thick and awkward, filled only by the sizzling of butter in the pan.

"Ahem," Bahamut cleared her throat, breaking the tension.

"So, what are your plans for the day? You usually wake up late, do some light training, and then laze around the house like a pampered lizard."

Draco scratched the back of his head, unable to refute the claim.

Since reaching the limit of 5, and his unstable body, he didn't need to grind the lower floors as often, and he had been enjoying the domestic tranquility a bit too much.

"Well, I actually have plans today. Tsubaki and I have some business to attend to in the deeper floors, so..."

Bahamut paused, the spatula mid-air.

A mischievous smirk played on her lips.

"Tsubaki, huh? Going after Hephaestus's favorite child before you even make a move on the goddess herself? That's quite the sinister plan you have there, Draco. Building a bridge through the daughter to reach the mother?"

"It's not like that!" Draco shot back, his face heating up.

"It's about equipment testing and….!"

"Relax, I'm just kidding," Bahamut laughed, turning back to the stove.

She plated a stack of pancakes and slid them across the counter toward him.

"But honestly, you should consider it. If you're going to look for other companions, you should definitely start with Hephaestus or maybe Demeter. You've always held them in high regard, and they're... well, they're stable. Just my opinion."

Draco sat down, staring at his breakfast in stunned silence.

It was a surreal experience.

He had just spent a night of intense romance with this woman, and here she was, casually suggesting which of her divine friends he should pursue next.

He knew the nature of their bond was different…..deities viewed time and affection through a much broader lens than mortals…..but he couldn't help the pang of guilt in his chest.

He didn't outright reject the idea, and that was what bothered him the most.

'I really am a weak man,' Draco thought, a subtle scolding directed at his own reflection in the syrup.

He was a hero to some, a monster to others, and a captain to his familia, but in the face of the women in his life, he felt like he was constantly walking a tightrope he wasn't quite balanced enough to cross.

"Eat up," Bahamut said, leaning over to ruffle his hair.

"You'll need your energy if you're going to keep up with the Cyclops."

Draco dug into his food, the sweetness of the meal doing little to settle the complicated mixture of lust, duty, and affection that now defined his life in Orario.
