Chapter 4646: Bringing Back Two Corpses
The arrival of the Chaos Wild Bull actually surprised Lin Moyu. First was the question of why he sought him out.
The Chaos Wild Bull was allied with the Calamity Sovereign and was one of the pieces in the Calamity Sovereign's plan. By rights, his mission was complete he should have gone back to the Ancient Wild, returned to the underground stronghold the Calamity Sovereign had prepared, and continued the next step. He ought not to be here seeking Lin Moyu for a deal.
That alone was very odd.
Lin Moyu could only think of one explanation: the Chaos Wild Bull was not of one mind with the Calamity Sovereign and had his own agenda. Or perhaps he had discovered some secret of the Calamity Sovereign and so his intentions shifted.
One more question: how did the Chaos Wild Bull find him? Even as a world enemy, a shining star in the night, it still shouldn't have been easy. Clearly, the bull had calculated Lin Moyu's route and waited for him here.
The Bull's eyes were clear, as calm as a deep well. The calamity seemed to have had no effect on him.
Lin Moyu didn't know his true strength, but from aura alone, he seemed to be at the quasi Sovereign level a realm that could currently withstand the great calamity.
"What sort of deal do you want, senior?" Lin Moyu asked.
"I want you to go somewhere and fetch me something," said the Chaos Wild Bull.
Lin Moyu nodded. "Where, and what am I to fetch?"
"That will be explained in a moment," said the Bull, "but first, your reward."
He opened his mouth, revealing a shining crystal.
The crystal dazzled, as if it contained all the world's hues. Countless facets caught the light like mirrors, each one reflecting endless images.
It resembled the Spatial Divine Mountain, but felt even more advanced.
"It's a supreme treasure!"
Lin Moyu couldn't name the crystal, but judged its level immediately.
Chaos Gem's voice suddenly rang out in his soul, shocked: "The Pochang Crystal! How could it be here?"
Lin Moyu, hearing the astonishment, asked, "It's called the Pochang Crystal? Does it have anything to do with Emperor Pochang?"
"Yes," said the Gem. "Emperor Pochang forged it before entering the Forbidden Land of Life. He used a secret art to send the crystal away and no one knew where it went."
The Gem had witnessed its creation; only after Emperor Pochang sent it off did its fate become unknown.
Who would imagine it'd turn up here?
"We must get it, Master there's surely something very important inside!"
It wasn't common for the Gem to sound so urgent or so covetous, but Lin Moyu now was determined, though he kept probing. "What is this?"
The Bull said, "I do not know its exact nature, but it's extraordinary. And I think it's fated for you. Do you accept this reward?"
Lin Moyu didn't answer directly. "That depends where you want me to go, and what you want me to fetch, and what dangers are involved."
"There are some strange places in the world that can only be accessed in special ways," the Bull replied. "You'll need to enter through a spacetime tunnel. There are two corpses inside. Just bring them back."
"Those two corpses aren't easy to move," he added. "I have a special stone tower that can carry them."
So Lin Moyu was to pass through a tunnel to a strange place and fetch two corpses, but only the Bull's stone tower could store them.
Lin Moyu sensed things weren't so simple. "You haven't said what dangers there are."
"For others, it's dangerous," the Bull said. "For you, not so much."
"Are you sure?" Lin Moyu still didn't believe him.
"Old Bull is certain. Maybe not perfectly safe, but nine out of ten. You might wonder why I came to you, and what my connection is with him."
Lin Moyu nodded slightly. "I am a little curious."
"All answers will be given after you bring the corpses back."
Lin Moyu fell silent, as if thinking. In truth, the moment the Pochang Crystal appeared, he had decided.
He would go it would be worth it, even if slightly dangerous. This errand would change their relationship; if not friends, at least not enemies.
If he refused, he'd make an enemy for himself, which would be a headache even if he wasn't afraid.
He hesitated for show, then said, "Alright, I agree."
The Bull grunted and produced a palm sized, plain stone tower unadorned but with its own space inside, made from a stone by the Bull to store the corpses. Handing Lin Moyu the tower, he said,
"In the eastern central region, there is a sea of fire. The portal is within it. The specific spot, you'll have to look for the tower will react when you're near."
It could sense the space tunnel as well as hold the corpses.
"I understand," Lin Moyu replied.
"In the Fire Sea, you may run into small troubles, but I think you can handle them," said the Bull.
Lin Moyu did not dispute him. "Small troubles" from the Bull were never truly small.
Everyone knew the Eastern Extreme's Fire Sea was the realm of Sovereign September her lair. Going there would surely attract her attention.
She was the Calamity Sovereign's enemy, and even if Lin Moyu wasn't yet the world's enemy, in her eyes he inherited the Calamity Sovereign's will, and was the enemy, not an ally.
She would not let him pass easily. But, since he agreed, he wouldn't back down a Sovereign was nothing to fear.
For the Pochang Crystal, this deal was worth it.
"Good luck, Fellow Daoist Lin," said the Bull, his giant body twisting as space began to fold.
His departure was strange, even Lin Moyu couldn't see how it worked it seemed the use of some universal rule or great Dao, not mere space.
"What did he use to leave?" Lin Moyu asked Chaos Gem.
"He left along a gap in fate," the Gem replied.
"Are you sure?"
"Absolutely."
